Best vegan donuts in town! - Edit
Best vegan donuts in town. They usually have lots of vegan options on the buffet and in the refrigerated section too. Don't forget to grab some mini vegan peanut butter chocolate cups by the register!

My Go to Grocery Store - Edit
I love Wheatsville so much, I get the majority of my groceries there. Their deli selection is full of vegan options (try the buffalo tofu with their vegan blue cheese, the green goblin smoothie, the vegan donuts formerly made by Red Rabbit and the mongolion tofu salad). Great selection of all things vegan plus they carry sweet ritual ice cream and skull and cakebones cupcakes. Wonderful and knowledgeable staff with a great vibe.
Pros: Great Selection, Wonderful Vegan Friendly Deli, Cute and Cozy

Great Neighborhood Grocer - Edit
Lots of variety, this grocery store is a gem with pantry staples, fresh produce and cooked food, too. The beans and rice is simple but cheap and filling. Don't miss the opportunity to try the popcorn tofu.

Wide selection of Vegan foods - Edit
This local-economy store carries (almost) all of my favorite prepared vegan foods (including new favorite - "Red Rabbit Co-Op Bakery" donuts) as well as organic, non-gmo, local produce, fresh foods. Wheatsville also supports other local co-ops, producers, businesses.
Pros: Good selection of Vegan prepared foods, Red Rabbit Co-Op (Vegan) Bakery products, Very friendly atmosphere
Cons: Only one, Relatively limited parking spaces

Great store - Edit
On one hand, you have Whole Foods' flagship; on the other, you have this neighborhood co-op, which is nothing like Whole Foods in terms of scale but does prove to be a gem in its own right. The interior was bright and clean, atmosphere was great, staff was cheerful and friendly. Local stores like this usually carry more interesting and special items than the general stuff in the big chains, and this one is no exception. The salad bars were also pretty good with many vegan options. Food was tasty enough. The chocolate cake was a bit too dry, but the GF carrot bread was delicious!
Pros: wide selection, great vibe

If you can't find it at Whole Foods... - Edit
...you'll probably find it here.
I've only been to Wheatsville a couple of times. There is usually a lot of traffic in its neighborhood and their parking lot is sometimes 100% full. They do, however, carry a wider variety of meat substitutes than any other store I've been to in Austin. They also have many other things in stock that you can't find elsewhere. I haven't had it myself, but I hear their popcorn tofu is amazing (it has its own Facebook page).
Pros: Hard to find items, Variety, Take out
Cons: Traffic, Small parking lot

A lot of people come for the pop corn tofu - Edit
We are decidedly healthier and went for a custom sandwich :) They were extremely kind in granting our oil-free requests. Wheatsville is everything Whole Foods can never be, local and feels like your neighborhood grocery store.

Great Deli - Edit
Popcorn Tofu. I don't really need to say more. Those who have tried it, know the truth. For anyone who out there who doesn't care for Tofu (myself included) You will love this stuff. And most everything they have is very good. baked goods, frito pie, smoothies, etc... good service. not 100% vegie, and not cheap, but worth going back.
Pros: popcorn tofu, food , service

Amazing - Edit
I can not say enough good things about Wheatsville. This is the best place to grocery shop in the Austin area, but it's also one of my favorite places to eat. If you are looking for food to go I highly recommend a Mongolian tofu salad from the "to-go section" with cashew tamari dressing...or if your looking for something a little less healthy order the Popcorn tofu Po-boy. Don't forget to grab a chocolate cookie on the way out! The staff is super helpful and its an awesome environment.
Pros: great food, friendly staff, good variety of healthy options

Very vegan-friendly, local place - Edit
Wheatsville is the favorite place for those who want a smaller, less over-the-top version of the downtown Whole Foods. They serve meat, but they have a ton of vegan stuff, and their deli is especially awesome for vegans. Try the Popcorn Tofu if they have it in stock (by the pound or as a sandwich).

Cute co-op - Edit
Wheatsville is a nice little co-op with local and health foods with a large bulk foods section- also all the people I have talked to that worked there have seemed very friendly. Very good lunch deli as well!
