AAAAMAZING - Edit
Extremely delish food. Had the chicken and the meatball sandwich. Both were incredible. Also: the mac'n'cheese was the bomb! And the donut.... I can't stop drooling. Would def recommend this place because on top of amazing food, the staff was great as well!

Had the hot “chicken” sandwich and macaroni salad, was awesome. Will go back to try breakfast items. It’s a small place with minimal seating.

comfort food that I forgot I was missing - Edit
I went here this morning in the rain after my dentist appointment, and I’m so glad that I did!!! I had the ham and cheese croissant and my husband ordered the salami sandwich that came with a macaroni salad, and we shared a sugar donut. The donut was very good, it has been awhile since I had a vegan donut that was not the cake kind, and this was pure fluffy goodness. The ham and cheese croissant was spot on taste wise, and just the right amount of greasy, definitely not health food...and if this place was close by to my home, it could be dangerous (because I would want it all the time). The salami sandwich I did not try. My husband loved it and wanted me to try it, but it was just too early in the day to ruin the cheesy sugary tastes I was having with mustardy tastes.
Read moreThe store itself has 8 stools at counters and 2 cafe chairs at a table, so I can imagine that at lunch time rush it could be a bit crowded. But it was pretty empty and roomy at 9:45 am on a rainy Tuesday. There were vegan snacks and cheeses for sale in the store, even Vdog food. I thought the pricing was a bit high for the snacks when compared to grocery store prices, but I’m the kind of person who goes to like 4 grocery stores regularly to get what I want at the best price.
Pros: delicious comfort food, hot vegan breakfast to go!!!!
Cons: smallish seating not ideal for lounging, snacks are on the expensive side

sad - Edit
Was really looking forward to this place - I got their maple banana waffle for and it was literally peanut butter in between two eggo waffles lol I could’ve replicated this at the dollar store. We also got a salad and they sell the little salads you buy at a hospital lunch room that are prepackaged. All in all I would not go here again or recommend to anyone

The BEST vegan deli - Edit
I heard so many great things about this place that we had to try it. It's small but has very steady traffic and it's so nice to see so many people enjoying vegan food! They have a grab and go refrigerator with pre-made, snacks sandwiches, drinks and desserts. There are more snacks and condiments spread out throughout the store as well as vegan dog food and snacks.
Read moreEven at the busiest time (while we were there) service was quick and friendly. Expect to take your food with you to eat somewhere else as seating is very limited. We lucked out and grabbed a table just as we were about to go back to the car to eat.
I make my own vegan salami sub at home and it is a huge favorite of my family and my non-vegan co-workers. The one at Vegan Picnic takes it to another level with their challah bread! I had the spicy "chicken" sandwich on the same bread and it was also very flavorful with the sriracha mayo!
We also shared a grilled cheese because they use Follow Your Heart cheese and we had to try it. It was nice warm and melty as expected!
We took home a couple of Bavarian cream filled donuts and they were really good. It did take eating about 80% of the donut before we got to the cream but it was still good.
I was pretty disappointed with the number of actual 100% vegan restaurants in San Francisco, but this place more than makes up for it. It will be our go to from now on and we expect to stop by before making the drive back home tomorrow.
Pros: Fast, friendly service, Great selection, Great flavor
Cons: Could use more seating

The best vegan food in town! - Edit
The guy serving us was very friendly and recommend the two top sellers the chicken and stake burgers! In all of my 45 years as a meat eater I have not enjoyed burgers as I enjoyed these. To die for! He even gave us a free jam doughnut, which I only discovered back in the hotel. Cheesecake we bougt was amazing too. Love this place, great food and excellent service. It gets top marks from me!

This place is AMAZING. As a vegan traveling through SF it was the perfect place to stop and get a delicious filling meal. If you’re a doughnut lover like I am you’ll want to grab a doughnut here, fluffy big doughnuts!

So delicious...and so friendly! - Edit
The women who own this place were so warm and generous and so passionate about veganism. It's clear that each ingredient and recipe has been considered and perfected. The crispy chicken sandwich, macaroni salad, Cole slaw, and egg salad are fabulous, and the Caesar dressing is the best I've ever had. My husband had the fish sandwich and loved that, too. The sugared raised doughnut was slightly dry but otherwise lovely. Make a stop here, and bring non-vegan friends...they'll be wowed!

I'm glad I stopped in here - Edit
We were just walking down Union St and stopped in. I had just eaten lunch, but after Jill gave me a sample of a meatball, I suddenly got really hungry for a meatball sandwich. I'm not a fan of macaroni salad or cole slaw, but the sandwich was fantastic! I got a chocolate frosted donut to go and it hit the spot later in the evening. Check this place out.

Food was flavored well, employees were friendly and prices were reasonable. Check out their croissants! Steak sandwich has just the right flavor of horseradish. Will certainly return.

Good Vegan Sandwiches and Salads. - Edit
I highly recommend the Kale Caesar Salad. The Chicken sandwich is good as well but very bready due to the bun and batter on the chicken patty, there are definitely times when that's what I need though! The coleslaw is not my favorite, but the macaroni salad is pretty great, especially with the chunks of bacon. I need to try the other sandwiches for a more thorough review. Unlike other reviewers, compared to modern SF prices I do not think the price is too expensive for what you get.

Loved this place. I got the salami sandwich with the macaroni salad on the side and it was out of this world. Their jelly filled donut was really good too. The cole slaw wasn't my favorite so I'd recommend getting the macaroni. Boyfriend got the crispy chicken sandwich and it was ok - a little heaven on the sauce. The grocery portion is awesome too. They have hippeas which are my fave. And vegan jerky that tastes great and has good texture. Super nice staff too!

'egg sandwich' - Edit
As a non vegan on holiday with my vegan boyfriend I have been trying out as many vegan places to eat as possible and my eyes have really been opened. This place was fantastic, I can't believe my 'egg' sandwich was not egg. Tasted so fresh and the portion size was amazing. The caramel cookies were a dream.

Wow, so delicious. - Edit
Straight to the point, their crispy chicken sandwich is now one of my favorite sandwiches in SF. It is impressively delicious, I am really in awe of how well curated the meat replacement is and overall the amount of flavors packed into this guy. For those making the transition to a vegan diet (like myself), their menu is loaded with familiar picks from traditional non-vegan cuisine, therefore allowing for a more comfortable, anxiety-free offering.
Read moreNow to the real kicker. My significant other is very much a meat lover, and still taking her time to transitioning to the vegan lifestyle. Previously she was a HUGE fan of gourmet crispy chicken sandwiches like the one served at Salumeria in Mission. She was extremely impressed with Vegan Picnic's alternative take.
I highly recommend checking out Vegan Picnic. I look forward to trying their special Chicken and Waffle sandwich and cupcakes!
Pros: Less than 5 minutes wait for food, Familiar cuisine, Very friendly service

BEST FISH FILLET EVER - Edit
I wish I could have gotten more food here because the fish fillet was SO good. My non vegan family even said they couldn't tell it was vegan. Along with the sandwich was a side of macaroni salad which had little bacon bits. I also got a donut which I had been craving for two weeks. This was the highlight of my visit to San Fransisco.

Good (Not Great) Food, But . . . - Edit
I'm so glad to have a vegan option in that part of San Francisco. Yay! And the food is good (but not great), particularly the "chicken" sandwich.
Read moreBut . . . the food is pricey for the serving size. In particular, the sides that come with the sandwich (either coleslaw or potato salad) are tiny - a couple of bites total. Given the prices, I shouldn't leave hungry. But I did.
Also, it's annoying to eat in. They don't have plates and don't offer water. So you're trying to eat your sandwich out of this little bag - good luck if it starts to spill.
I really hope this places makes it. Please increase the serving size and make the in-dining experience better.
