Great breakfast food! Lots of options! - Edit
We went the Polk Street location first because it was closer to our hotel and this app said it was open at 0800. When we got there the manager was there and was able to tell us it didn't open until 1100 but the Union Street location was open.
Read moreWe walked to the Union St location and were not disappointed. I had a breakfast burrito and my husband had the ham and cheese breakfast sandwich... Both were delicious. I was so happy to find this place because it's difficult to find vegan breakfast options that aren't just oatmeal or avocado toast. Very cute little place with great breakfast food.
Pros: Breakfast! Delicious!
Cons: None

my go to place for fast food - Edit
Vegan Picnic has all my cravings in one place which makes it super dangerous. I’ve had everything from their breakfast to salads to sandwiches. Their egg salad is insanely good. I’m also a big fan of the breakfast burrito and kale Caesar salad. I don’t think I’ve had any food I didn’t like here. The staff are really nice overall and it’s a cute place on Union. Also getting the meals themselves are super fast. I will say that their food is filling and you will get addicted to eating their food. As a college student it can get pricey though. Overall, I wish I could eat there every day.

Wow. - Edit
Visiting San Francisco from LA and stopped in here with my wife to start the day with some breakfast. We shared the breakfast burrito and a donut. Both were sooooo tasty. The donut was a donut, but in a good way. The breakfast burrito was hands-down the best vegan breakfast burrito I’ve ever have and it would easily give any animal cruelty burrito a run for its money.

Tasty vegan comfort food! - Edit
Oh my – the crispy “chicken” sandwich was perhaps the best vegan comfort food I’ve ever had. Everything you’d want from a classic diner sandwich, but veg! I’ve been a vegan for over a decade and have never stopped missing some of the old classics from my childhood, so I really appreciate this place with its vegan takes on old standards. Looking forward to trying the “fish” fillet sandwich next. Oh, the cheesecake is great too! Wish they had this restaurant in Boston! Keep doing the good stuff you’re doing!

Expensive but worth it - Edit
Different vegan meat and cheese options for cold or hot sanwiches. Assorted desserts like donuts and cakes. We had the sausage and egg biscuit and two ham and cheese sanwiches. Everything was over priced. Sides of macaroni salad were very very small. Tasted great though. I recommend this place if you are willing to pay.

Vegan comfort food! - Edit
Specializing in fake meats, cheeses and other substitutions, the Vegan Picnic sandwiches provide both incredible flavor and most importantly, texture. They also a small selection of dry and refrigerated goods but the sandwiches provide melt in your mouth comfort that you really crave.

Great Selection - Edit
They have a great selection of items. The price is a little high for the portions, but that is to be expected in sf. I had the “beef tip” sandwich, which was good, but could have used a few more toppings than just the horseradish sauce, lettuce, and tomato.

So much potential, so much fail. - Edit
This place could be amazing like Butcher's Son in Berkeley. Unfortunately like most places in SF, it's a culinary fail. There are so few Vegan places in SF and yet this place isn't worth visiting. Could've been a contender, instead it's just another dismal SF dining experience.

This is an incredibly unhelpful review to leave. If you have feedback for how the owner can improve, why don't you provide it? I agree that this place has a lot more potential, but the food is still pretty damn good.

This review reflects a lot of what is already posted here, so I wouldn't call it unhelpful, rather it supports the larger consensus of what to expect here which I find helpful.

Quick bites done right. - Edit
What a gem - Vegan Picnic is nailing fast casual in San Fran. Amazing, piping hot sandwiches made to order. Egg salad is divine. Breakfast is the true highlight here - the VP Burrito with soyrizo, eggs, and Just Egg is downright addictive. Pair it with a Nutella / banana waffle or a yeast donut as big as your face and you’ll be crying either tears of joy or tears of pain from having to leave at some point. The staff there are incredibly friendly, gracious, and hard-working. Instant friends were made here. Attention all vegans/anyone wanting an incredibly quick bite with intense flavor - this is your jam.

Great food, seating very limited - Edit
Tried different burger and had the coleslaw and pasta-Starters. It was tasty. The very limited seating was kind of a problem because we went there as a group of 5. the table was shaky. Staff was friendly. The dessert (cheesecake and chocolate cake) had been awesome!

Good For A Quick Stop - Edit
Stopped in to grab lunch and got the crispy chicken sandwich and a brownie. The cashier was super nice, and I had my food in probably 5 minutes or less. The sandwich was amazing and so was the brownie. However - another time I went my friend, who got the chicken and waffles. It was $9 but was sandwiched between two barely toasted Eggo waffles. Seriously? Some of the food is great but some of it is just totally overpriced.

Disappointing - Edit
Perhaps it was the high expectations from other reviews that contributed to us feeling that this was not a great vegan experience. Today my carnivore friend and my vegan self had a late lunch here and ordered the signature burger and chicken burger. Both were frankly uninteresting and my friend did not even finish his chicken burger despite being a normally voracious eater. The nice 'beef' patty could not compensate for the stale bun and minimalist lettuce/tomato content. The Mac n Cheese and Coleslaw sides were both nice but tiny. In hindsight I should have put the sides into the burger to add the missing interest. Seating was very limited and felt more like a take-out business. Staff were pleasant. I do not like leaving negative reviews of vegan restaurants but this was only ordinary at best.

I ordered the Old School Fish Fillet and...it was amazing! Honestly, one of the best things I have ever eaten. The tarter sauce was on point. I don't live in the Bay Area but this resturant makes me wish I did. I WILL return here whenever I visit San Francisco.

No idea why all the good reviews... - Edit
This place is a rip off, not a good advertisement for vegan food unfortunately. The grilled cheese was what would appear to be a ludicrously hot microwaved bun with melted cheese inside. Definitely not grilled. My partners sandwich had so much horse radish on that he couldn't breathe. And it's bloody expensive for what you get.
