Amabilidad y buena comida - Edit

Went in October - Edit
First time I visited, it wasn't possible to eat there that evening. We made a reservation for the next night, and were very happy with our experience. Good food, small servings, but fun experience for a vegan in Spain as most Tapas and restaurants in general are meat heavy. I was with a carnivore who enjoyed our croquettes, and patatas bravas.
Pros: Delicious Food
Cons: A bit expensive, Small

Not outstanding - Edit
The place is of some tavern-ish style, which is not quite my cup of tea. The courses are not outstanding and the relation of taste (quality) to the price is not as high as expected. The dishes contain too much flour and fat (greasy) and too few vegetables, for my taste.
Also the place is very crowdy, so forget about about a quiet and elegant dinner. Reservation is also recommended - two of three times I visited it, it was full.

Pros: typical Spanish tavern style, service
Cons: noisy

Favorite place to eat good and healthy vegan food! - Edit
The staff is really nice, the food is really good and the place is really cozy... What do you want more? Whether it is to impress your meat-eating family who thinks vegan food is not good or to have a friendly meal, VEGA is the perfect place! I brought to this place my mom who always complain about vegan food being not good and she loved it so much that she wanted to go back before leaving Spain!
Pros: Friendly staff, Excellent food, Nice vibe
Cons: Noisy

My favourite place in Madrid - Edit
Before I moved to Norway I used to go at least 3 times a month. It is a very comfortable space, with really good food, I personally love the chilli. One of the greatest things of this place is that they offer a menu during week days that consist of a soup, a main dish and a dessert and that does not reach 8euros. The staff are also very nice and friendly. The only "bad thing" is that it is a very small restaurant and very succesful, which means that gets busy very soon.
Pros: Delicious food, Good price, Nice staff
Cons: Small, get busy ealisy

Cozy vegan restaurant in Malasana - Edit
Vega is a cozy, well decorated restaurant in Malasana. For 8Eur I can have bread, soup, drink, main dish and a dessert. Food is full of taste and very well presented. Options vary daily.
Service is fast, kind and talkative.
I got an excellent time during my meal here.
The best vegan restaurant I've visited in Madrid up to now. Definitely recommended.
Pros: vegan, service, price

great option in Madrid - Edit
The restaurant is always full! Our first attempt was not as successful, you need a reservation if you want to enjoy your dinner during peak hour, so we ended going at a later time.
Was there with a friend, we thought the tapas size were small, but to our surprise we ordered too much!
Highly recommend VEGA, great atmosphere and friendly service!

Tasty and creative food and quick and friendly service - Edit
We ordered two Tapas and two mains. No dessert because we were in a hurry. The waiter assured us that the food will be served quickly. The food was delicious and presented nicely. The wine and the home-made limonade accompanied the food well.

Elaborate cuisine, friendly - Edit
I ordered a ceviche (7 €50), consisting of mushroom, sweet potatoe, some spaghettis, carrot and zucchini, in a sauce of lemon mixed with some drops of agave sirup, and with some chilli (if I am not mistaken), served cold, very tasty and generous in mushrooms. I also had a 4 €50 aperitivo, consisting of three small entries to be chosen ; in my case : sauerkraut, oriental houlos and egg-plant purée, all good.
The staff is friendly.
Given its deserved success, it is hoped that the restaurant will increase its space. It is at present necessary to reserve if you are two or more. On evening, if you are alone and come at the opening time, you may find a seat at the middle table.
Pros: Elaborate cuisine, Friendly staff, Moderate price
Cons: Few seats

Delicious food and great variety. - Edit
Very friendly staff, food is amazing. Having read previous reviews saying the prices are expensive, has got me a little confused as they're really reasonable. As the highest price for a main is €11.50, and the mains are a great portion size too. All together we had two mains, two desserts, two beers, two lots of bread, a soft drink and a tea. Which came to around €45 with tax, which is an average price for a table of two.
Korma curry was fantastic, whilst my boyfriend had the chilli con carne. Desserts were delicious. The place itself was cosy with lots of tile decorations everywhere, someone even brought their pet pig with them. So definitely animal friendly too.
Reserving a table can be a must, as I think we got lucky. Over all, can wait to go again in a few days time whilst visiting Madrid.
Pros: Tasty food, Lots of food and drink options, Friendly staff

Great tapas - Edit
Vegan tapas are delicious at Vega. The mushroom croquettes and the peppers with cherries were my favorite, but everything on the menu that I tried was very tasty so it would be hard to go wrong. Just make sure to reserve since they are booked almost every single night.

Different experience - I like it - Edit
When I visited during lunch hours last year, it was super busy and I got seated in-between 2 strangers, which I really like the idea of. Unfortunately I was coming down with something, and it was really hard for me to eat and talk. I really like that it's possible to meet others when dining though - very un-scandinavian.
Would love to come back here, and try it again.

Moda vegana - Edit
Cons: Raciones escasas

Underwhelming Food and Service - Edit
We booked a table, which I would strongly recommend - most tables were already reserved. The service was not great. We waited 15 minutes and nobody came to take our drinks order - I had to go up to the bar. Then we had a 30 minute wait for the food. The food was ok, but not spectacular. The BBQ seitan was cut into small slivers, which was a bit disappointing, and the sauce was a little too sweet. The tofu brochette was better, really flavoursome. Generally, it was ok.

Terrible service - Edit
Haven't tried the food, so no comments about it. Tried going there twice during my visit to Madrid, both for dinner. First time I was told to 'wait about 30 minutes'. Gave up and went somewhere else. Two days later tried again, this time I was chocked: I was told that "alone we can't get you a table, please come either when we open (20h30) or closer to closing time (after 23h00)..." Come on, you should never turn down a customer. There were empty tables inside. So if you are alone, forget about it. Look for somewhere else, there are plenty of good places around.
Pros: I don't know, haven't even tried the food...
Cons: Terrible service.

bonitos muebles, experiencia agridulce - Edit
Me encantaron.

Vega = Vegan heaven - Edit
We had just a few days in Madrid, but visited Vega 3 times. The atmosphere is welcoming and bohemian. The food is fresh, inventive & heavenly. The service is friendly. There is no English menu, but the staff speak some English. With all the food being vegan and so good, you don't need to understand it!
It is open every day and almost always busy. We first came on a Sunday evening for dinner and they were full, but the waitress managed to squeeze us in.
We had lunch, dinner and drinks with tapas on our three visits. We would highly recommend!

This place was very busy with locals when we arrived. The staff was responsive and accomodating, very friendly. This was our first meal in Spain. My boyfriend ordered two rounds of the mushroom croquettes? I think they were. It seemed like such a friendly neighborhood spot and we had such a nice meal. It was a little expensive but worth it to get a nice restaurant (instead of take-away) meal.

Unwelcoming - Edit
After reading all the good reviews, I was excited about this place. However, when I entered I just stood there waiting for several minutes for a server to acknowledge me. Eventually I just sat myself at an empty table but then one came by and told me it was reserved so would I mind sitting at the bar. I then waited another couple minutes for him to sit me at the bar. Then when I asked very simple a question about the menu, I told he'd be with me in a moment. After several more minutes of waiting I just walked out. Maybe the food's amazing (although the menu wasn't very big) but in my experience the service was terrible.

Enjoyed - great tasting - Edit
We came here for a meal in the evening. It was very busy and the atmosphere nice. We shared a mix of plates - some were better that others. The lasagne was nice but there wasn't very much of it so didn't seem very good value, we had some patatas asadas which were more filling, and then we shared a seitan dish which was really really good. I'd go back.
Pros: Tasty food, Good atmosphere, Staff helpful
Cons: Some dishes not good value, Quanitites were a bit small

Lovely tapas! - Edit
Cute atmosphere, tasty food, and great service make this a lovely little cafe. I enjoyed the tomato soup (which was clearly braised and therefore so packed with flavour it made me wonder how to improve the one I cook at home!) and three of the starters. Unfortunately, two of the three I chose weren't available, so I had to have two I wasn't so keen on.
The first was seaweed salad, which was unfortunately too seaweedy and lacking in balancing flavours, the roasted veg, which were ok but nothing special, and the almonds in smoked paprika oil, which was life-changing and which I could've eaten kilos of. So much yum.
There was also a great range of tea, coffee, juices, smoothies, and cocktails available, as well as tasty-looking desserts.
The staff were just lovely- very helpful, friendly, and kind. They seemed busy but we're still able to provide great service.
The only con was that, like so many places in Spain, the kitchen doesn't open til late (8.30pm), so I missed out on enjoying some of the delicious-sounding cooked food.
I found Vega easy to find, and it's just around the corner from a bustling little plaza and near some other great attractions.
Big bonus for being 100% cruelty free!
Pros: 100% vegan Spanish food, The mouthwatering almonds in smoked paprika oil, Good value for money and lovely staff
Cons: Some food unavailable , Seaweed salad not particularly nice

Great Vegan Tapas! - Edit
Really enjoyed eating at this bar/restaurant place on a recent visit to Madrid. We went at around 10pm one night and it was busy and lively. Our server was incredibly friendly and helpful, and spoke great English. We ordered several tapas dishes - tomatoes in oil, potatoes, mushroom croquettes, beetroot hummus, cucumber & chilli, fresh bread - and it was truly delicious. We had a really relaxed evening, and at no point felt rushed, despite how busy the place was. The interior was very cool and the place had a great vibe. The price was medium. Would definitely recommend!
Pros: Great food, Nice atmosphere, Helpful staff

nice place for quick and inexpensive bite - Edit
VEGA is centrally set small place with nice food, quite cheap in set manner as they serve set lunches throughout the week. Portions are very modest but for some vegans seemed enough. We had little miso soup served in a capuccino cup, then tempeh skewers ( tempeh was too dry for our taste) with baked patato wedges (3 wedges) and bowl of dhal which we shared, and 1cm thin slice of banana bread for dessert. We payed under 20 euro with coffee. The place was very busy during lunch hours the longest wait was for the waiter to bring us a bill. As we have lots other places to try out so we had just one meal in VEGA.
Pros: good value, good vibe, friendly staff
Cons: small portions, dry tempeh

Friendly service....but a bit pricey - Edit
This takes a bit of looking to find because it is down a dimly lit road. Could do with better signage. The staff are very friendly here and are prompt to take orders. The food is very tasty and there are many choices. Unfortunately, however, portions are quite small. Just because we are vegan, it doesn't mean we eat tiny portions. Also, bread should be supplied with all the dips and soups. The only part of the meal I didn't particular find great were the desserts. A clean empty plate would also be nice to have to place our food on when sharing, etc. Everything was very tasty, particularly the Chill con 'carne', but it's a bit on the pricey side.
Pros: Friendly staff, Good choice, Tasty food
Cons: No bread supplied with dips or soup, No empty plates supplied, A bit pricey

We arrived at our hotel at 10pm and wanted some food - Happy Cow led us here and it was perfect. It's a great cozy space in a nice neighbourhood with other bars and restaurants nearby. The staff are really friendly and have good taste in music. They have a great selection of local beers, including some organic ones. The food was amazing, we ordered way too many dishes just to try everything. The portions are pretty large. The lasagna was our favourite, the sauces are great. They close at 1am but it was still busy and lively at midnight on a Tuesday.
Pros: Open late!, Location

The food is so good, simple but with something exciting. The staff is very nice.

So-so - Edit
Well, I have mixed feelings about this place... The cold leek and potato soup was all right, and the focaccia with mushrooms and more was quite interesting.. the dessert, some coconut and cacao mousse, was average though. All in all, it was a fine lunch with very polite service...
My objections have more to do with Vega´s philosophy, as they call for a "vegan revolution" on the Internet, yet they are apparently non-vegan themselves. More serious is the fact that they purport their ingredients to be organic, but according to a source who is "in the know" that is sadly not the case. They did have a few items on display which were suitably labeled as organic, but during my lunch a supplier showed up, and the boxes that were delivered were not organic as far as I could see. I didn´t feel more reassured after they, just a couple of months ago, get a question on their facebook with regard to a dish, whether all ingredients in it are organic. They answer with a straightforward yes, but at least one of them, hoisin sauce, is not even available as organic, at least to my knowledge. So yeah, to cut a long story short, if it seems too cheap to be true, then it's probably just not (entirely) true.

josentido 01 Jul 2015 - Firstable, we want to make clear to you and to anyone who come to eat at Vega that the products we use for our food are organic, although sometimes this is not possible to do it with certified products at 100%, as happen with the hoisin sauce. We use this sauce with the brochettes made with smoked tofu, vegetables, noodles and seaweed, and all this ingredients are certified organic.
We are very serious about the products we use in our kitchen and, as far as we can, we only buy organic products. I would say that our food is 99% organic but a few exceptions.I invite you to come and check our products by yourself, seeing their origin. I am sure that it will be more accurate than a quick look to any boxes. We love facts and don´t like false beleifs. Of course we invite your friend who is “in the know” to come as well to check it out and whoever feel like checking our products. We have nothing to hide and a lot to show and share with others.
Second thing, it´s about our personal food options. The most important thing is that we are a vegan restaurant and this is a decision we made the 3 persons who set up Vega. But I don’t mind to tell you that one of this 3 has been strictly vegan for ages, other one is vegetarian and the other one is more flexible about what he eats. But we share the idea of taking responsibility about what we eat and to be aware about it. A vegan and organic restaurant was our choose. We are relaxed people and we don´t ask for any Vegan ID to our staff or clients. Anyway it is quite curious you take the time to find out about our personal food preferences.
We are not calling to any vegan revolution in internet, the revolution is already here. Our intention is to be part of it just setting up a good restaurant with good food, good service and good atmosphere. And it seems, by the public response, that we are doing it.

We ate here on our last night in Madrid. We were going to visit a raw food place, which turned out to be closed. This was the amazing alternative.
Just seconds off the Gran Via is this cozy place with excellent food. I had a amazing tomato garpazio with cashew pesto and rucola. Some veggie tapas with beetroot hummus. And as a main a scrumptious tofu/chickpea burger. The chocolate mousse was a joy aswell.
Staff was so nice and gave us some limoncello as a treat!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

My fiancé and I visited for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon at 3pm and Vega was so busy! Great to see such a popular vegan restaurant! We waited at the bar for 10 minutes to then be seated in the cute window seat. We were recommended the day menu which was great as we could not choose from the a la carte menu because we wanted everything! The day menu was €6.90 and included a aperitif, main, dessert, bread and water. We ordered all the choices to try everything and the chili con carne was the stand out as well as both desserts. We have booked a table for dinner tomorrow, cannot wait to try the a la carte menu! A must visit in Madrid!

Pros: buenos platos
Cons: muy caro

Great food experience, very friendly staff - Edit
Small vegan restaurant in Madrid centre. Very nice atmosphere, lively but not noisy. Good jazz music.
We shared Verduras con chimichurri, which were delicious. We then had thre mains: Seitan kebab, Vegetable curry and Pinchos de tofu. All were very tasty and well prepared. The portions were big, so we could only had one dessert to share.
Delicious home made bread
Staff was extremely friendly
Prices were adequate
Overall very good place
Pros: Very good food, Good prices, Friendly staff, nice vibe

Delicious food & organic local wines. - Edit
Delicious vegan restaurant and super friendly atmosphere. "Croquetas", "lasagna" and the handmade bread are delicious. The organic beers & wines from Madrid are completely amazing. Just in the heart of Madrid it´s very easy to find the venue and there are a lot of things to do around this area. I want to give 10 starts to this cozy restaurant.

Pop in, if you are in town. - Edit
A great find. Easy to find and well worth a visit. I went at lunchtime and had some very tasty morsels from the dish of the day menu. It came to €6.50 or so which was reasonable. There's a table for solo diners so we can all mingle. Friendy place with great food and a central location. I will return next time Im back in town.m
Pros: Tasty menu choices, Good atmosphere

delicious vegan tapas - Edit
We very much enjoyed the food here. They have a nice selection of tapas, salads, main dishes and desserts. The carpaccio tomato slices were amazing, as was the chocolate mousse. Wine and beer were great as well. The guys working here spoke good English and were nice enough to translate the menu for us.
I had to update this review because we ate here two more times during our stay in Madrid. The food was all amazing! This was one of our favorite restaurants during our week and a half trip in Spain.

excellent! - Edit
Very good address! Well situated, nice place and atmosphere, very good food, a lot of choice on the menu (and some nice formulas like 3 apetizers on choice), excellent ratio price/quantity/quality (apetizers+main course+dessert for less than 20 euros), nice raw-style decoration, and friendly and charming waiters... We had a very nice evening! Warmly recommended!

Great find! - Edit
Vega is a new place nice and central in Madrid. Interior is very tasteful & welcoming and the staff very helpful & friendly to this non Spanish speaker! I had the mixed entrees, saitan and Tofu-Cheesecake for dessert, with a beer & a coffee all up €24 so fairly reasonable. The food was very good, especially the aubergine entree and the saitan with sweet potato & parsnip which was warming & filling. Definitely a recommendation for a good meal in a nice atmosphere.
