Refined cafe - Edit

This was a lovely minimal style cafe that’s all vegan. I went for breakfast and had their toast special, which was delicious. Their coffee is very good and they offer hand drip. The prices were expensive but it was quality and had a great view.

Pros: delicious, open for breakfast

Cons: expensive, small portions

Great hand dripped coffee and tasty beans on toast. Small portions though but I am American so maybe I just eat too much haha

Pros: great coffee, great toast

Cons: small portions

Not a favorite - Edit

I wouldn't call this place bad, but I can't recommend it either. My dish was not very interesting. Also, while the restaurant claims to have cafe hours until 6pm and serve dinner after that time, arriving at 5:30 means you have to wait outside until they are ready to take dinner orders. At least the service was quick!

TOURIST TRAP - Edit

Total disappointment! This place is utterly a tourist trap. The prices are insane and portions are tiny. Plus the food is very average. I would give it 0 stars if I could. Tiny glass of juice from bottle $6! Took 35 minutes to get starter!

Cons: Poor quality food, Expensive, Small portions

Nice place, lame menu - Edit

Dropped in for breakfast.

I was underwhelmed by the breakfast menu with only a few simple options. Toast, a veg panino and a couple of yoghurt bowls.

I orders the panino (disappointing) and the acai bowl. The acai bowl was really poor - not enough fruit and hardly any granola.

I was also disappointed by the service which was very slow indeed.

I'm sorry to say, I can't recommend this place because the food is well below par.

Super cadre, super repas - Edit

Le cadre est assez idyllique : vue sur le canal, collé à la baie vitrée. Les plats sont variés, riches et très bons.

Pros: - La vue, - La richesse des repas

very tasty food, lovely staff - Edit

We had diners every night at that restaurant that was just next to our hotel. Fresh food and extremely tasty. Loved it! Only downside was that it was no gluten free options except from rice and salads. They had really tasty vegan burgers and muffins but they had gluten.

Delicious - Edit

The restaurant was top notch, cosy and had a perfect location by the river. The food was amazing! We tried two of the three dinner plates, nr 1 and 3 if I'm not mistaken. I'm already looking forwars to try the last one! The appraisers were also good, the potato was a bit to salty, but the fried tofu (I think) was tasty.

Pros: they really put their soul in the food, and you ca

Cons: Bit pricey, but totally worth it if you are lookin

Lovely cafe overlooking the Kamogawa River but overpriced dinner menu - Edit

Veg Out is situated at a very convenient location overlooking the beautiful Kamogawa River with an airy , bright space which is a great place to relax and work. The lunch plates are decorated beautifully and taste clean yet fairly delicious. I also like the vegan taco rice which is filled with lots of fresh vegetables and a tasty taco sauce. However, one of the problems I have with Veg Out is that the dinner menu is overpriced for what you get. The vegan steak for example is just a small piece of vegan patty that is priced at a whopping 1500 yen with no rice or accompanying salad. The fried rice is also measly and oily with under-seasoned tempeh even though you pay more than 1000 yen for it. The desserts are hit or miss, although the cheesecake and some of the muffins are nice. I heard that the raw cakes and carbonara are quite good. Overall I would recommend this place for lunch or a light meal in the day if you are in the area near Kyoto Station.

Pros: Bright and beautiful space, Good place to chill and work, Some good dishes

Cons: Overpriced dinner menu with small portions, Inconsistent food quality

nice atmosphere, close to the centre, nice view - Edit

We went to Veg Out on our first night in Kyoto and enjoyed the view and atmosphere. We ordered the platter and had not realised that it would be cold. This was a bit of a disappointment but had we gone again we would've ordered something else. They were also not open on another occasion when their opening times suggested that they would be.

Beautiful location, yummy food - Edit

We got here a bit early for dinner/too late for lunch, so we didn't have much option here because of timing unfortunately, however the taco rice was yum and the view over the river was really beautiful. Would love to come back here again for lunch or dinner.

The Maya nut drink was really nice too

Nice location! - Edit

We just sat down to take a break and this was a really cost cafe by the river. It's a bit pricy, but the cheesecake we took was totally worth the money.

This was the best vegan food I have had in Japan so far. I got the big buddha bowl and it was really good! Some herb tea with it and I was full. Worth the money I would say.

Good Option! Nice View. Great drink! - Edit

I got the Buddha bowl, but was still hungry! I would go for the large size. I also tried two of their muffins to go. The lemon poppy seed was slightly flavorless, but the sweet potato was great! I got the Maya nut latte? It was sooo good! I could drink that every day. The food quality and setting is very nice : ) But, maybe not the best place if you are starving. You can just buy two muffins like I did and survive for the rest of the day : ) Staff was very nice!

Pros: Best coffee alternative I have had., Good view, Tasty

Cons: Small portions.

Great location - Edit

This was one of my favourite places to eat on our trip to Japan. It's a great space overlooking the river. The portions are smaller but the quality of the food is excellent and it's satisfying. We had a rice dish, pickled vegetables, and the soup of the day. Service was friendly, highly recommend this place.

Many better option in Kyoto - Edit

I went there with my Canadian Friend but we were disappointed from the early dinner because too simple and not very tasty for some one travel in Kyoto, that is the Vegan Capital of Asia. Not Kyoto's food.
We went here because is not far from the train station, but next time we will take a taxi.

Pros: Not far from Train Station, Beautiful view of Kamogawa River

Cons: Not worth for the price, Not yummy menu choice, Food too simple

Nice, but pricy for dinner - Edit

We ate there for dinner and felt that, although it was nice enough, it was a bit expensive. The setting is a cafe but at restaurant prices. However the food was tasty and the view is nice.

Pros: Healthy and nourishing

Cons: Expensive. Too informal for the price.
