So much more than words can transmit - Edit
One of the ultimate stand out vegan places I’ve ever been to in my life. The three of us had their famous £22 Sunday Roast extravaganza each selecting a different meat (roast chicken, lamb and turkey). You are also provided with a Yorkshire Pudding then it’s self-service vegetables and all the usual trimmings such as sauces, stuffing and lashings of gravy. I had a bit of everything, piled my plate high then proceeded to devour the whole feast with a pint of their delicious Posh Lager overlooking Petticoat Lane Market. Not a bad way to spend an early Sunday afternoon before hitting The Oval for some T20 cricket action.

Oh and the drinks are super good too!

Too unhealthy - Edit
I admire Earthling Ed as much as everyone else on Happy Cow (I assume) but there's no way he stays that skinny while eating here!
Read moreThe menu is junk food only and while it tastes fine, it's just too much quantity and too low quality. The oily emanations from the kitchen are also a bit overwhelming.
So I wouldn't go back.
However the crowd disagrees with me as it was packed every time I went past.

Vegan for the animals - Edit
I loved going to Unity Diner knowing that the owner(s) are vegan for the animals as that’s not the case with every vegan restaurant. The food is mainly junk food, but it is amazing! We just tried the burgers this time but I’d love to try more things next time. Unity Diner was full when we went so we had to wait a bit to get a table. It’s a popular & energetic place with really good menu & food. I hope the place inspires more people to eat vegan.

Celebrating veganism - Edit
Some restaurants owe their fame to a successful chef or a showbiz celebrity. For many vegans, that means nothing. What have they done to change the world? But when famous vegan advocate Earthling Ed opens a restaurant, that makes it instantly famous!
Read moreAnd it shows, because on a Friday night the place was packed with people waiting for a table. And the restaurant is buzzing. It's lively, it's loud and it's energetic! This is not the place to go on a romantic date or to enjoy a quiet evening of meaningful conversation.
The menu mainly has junk food on it like burgers, fries, nachos, fish & chips and more. I went for the healthiest option on the menu: a "Chikken Kale Ceasar Salad" with the optional facon (fake bacon) bits on top. Despite the place being packed, the order was served reasonably quickly.
The fake meats looks suspiciously real, but knowing who's behind this restaurant I dared to take a bite anyway. And I must say: even though a Ceasar salad is a pretty simple dish, Unity Diner makes the absolute best out of it. The ingredients seem to be of pretty good quality and everything from the dressing to the presentation is excellent. Also, it's a generous portion.
So, what to think of Unity Diner? Well, it's certainly not vegan food at its best, like some vegan haute cuisine restaurants serve. Instead Earthling Ed and Unity Diner show how easy it is to eat vegan food. Unity Diner is a place to sit, chat with strangers and celebrate veganism.
Pros: unique vegan vibe, tasty food!
Cons: 12.5% service charge, not the best place for healthy food, card only (no cash)

Creative, crowded vegan restaurant - Edit
I enjoyed my first trip here. The food was good, and I look forward to getting back to try more things. Definitely try their "tofish" appetizer or "tofish & chips." Expect crowds. I was there by myself without a reservation and was only able to sit at the bar (which was fine).

Great vegan diner food - Edit
A really nice atmosphere and great food. Had the tofish and chips which was excellent - especially the mushy peas. Also shared the loaded fries. The chocolate raspberry torte and ice cream nachos were a nice unusual type of dessert. The service was great. Very friendly and helpful and apologetic when part of the order was wrong.

We reserved rather early but still had to settle for bar seating. But there’s rightly a certain hype justified. We enjoyed TOFISH & CHIPS and CHIKKEN KALE CAESAR SALAD which were both really delicious. Staff were great as well.

Good cause, nice place, ok food - Edit
I was excited to visit Unity Diner since all profits go to animal rights work, it looks trendy and the menu is full of guilty pleasures. Sadly the food wasn't that impressive. Some of it was quite bland and disappointing. Reservations are also only for an hour so we felt like we were on the clock, particularly after seeing another table were asked to vacate their table and move to the bar to finish their desserts. I'm glad we tried it but I probably wouldn't go back

All vegan… tasty tasty!!! Tofish and chips were amazing. - Edit
My only con was the BBQ drumsticks were so real like that I had a hard time looking at them to eat. Even the sugar cane chicken bones were life like!!! However they were delish!!! The tofish texture Was amazing and it was wrapped in seaweed as the fish skin. Great place for someone craving the meatier vegan dishes. Didn’t have hardly any veggie dishes for My carnivore friends, they won’t eat meat replacement.

Unity Dinner - Edit
Second time visiting UD and this time around I wasn’t so amazed! Food was ok 👌🏻 but there was also something off for me in the whole atmosphere. I still would 100% reccomend this place to vegan friends and no veggies though. I also quite like the new location and the new place is bigger as well compared to when I visited them last in 2019.

Lovely Birthday Lunch - Edit
This is an absolute go-to for new vegans, and those who are unsure about getting the taste and texture without the animals. Not forgetting the cocktail fans!
Read moreThere's no wfpb here, it definitely has the vibe of being somewhere you go for a treat.
As we were going for dinner later, I opted for the lighter dish of caesar salad. Our waiter advised that all of the dishes they serve are filling and that would be the best if I didn't want to eat too much! The birthday boy went for the tofish and chips. It's all decent size portions and we both enjoyed our meals. The table next to us were not vegans but all talking excitedly about the not-lobster dishes they'd ordered, so clearly the chefs have their art down perfectly.
We were going to skip dessert and ordered cocktails instead - Eric the Sheep (it's candy floss!) and the delicious and classic Piers Morgans Tears. I hope he pops by to try it sometime. Nowhere near as bitter as I'd expected....
Despite not ordering dessert, the lovely team brought out a birthday pudding anyway - see pics. It was a complete surprise and wonderfully presented by Jamie, one of excellent serving crew.
An all round great experience and definitely worth travelling to visit!

Service is terrible - Edit
Went there twice in a two-week period. First time the service was alright. Second time, food was excellent, and still does not make up for the rude, passive-aggressive, and generally unhelpful servers. I’m pretty laid back and worked for many years in food service, and I don’t consider myself a particularly demanding customer - the two servers who were present went above and beyond to make for a dismal dining experience. Never again will I darken their door. London has a lot more to offer.

Amazing vegan seafood - Edit
Had a range of small plates to share: triple cooked chips, tofish bites, prawns and chicken drumsticks. The flavours and textures were all spot on. Love that it’s not for profit and supports an animal sanctuary. Staff were helpful although a bit overly attentive at times trying to clear plates before we’d finished. Got some flavoured lemonades which were nice

The tofish !! - Edit
Waited years to go to this place and it did not disappoint! The tofish is amazing !! Even my Omni bf was amazed. Make sure you book before you or no chance you're getting a seat. Also be warned you must give up your table after an hour unless you go later in the evening. The staff are super friendly and helpful. I wasn't such a fan of the atmosphere, however, the place was very loud and the music was awful and way too loud. That plus the heat inside while we waited for our table gave me a headache.

Best fish and chips in town - Edit
I went with the expectation of eating a hearty meal, in a chilled-out place with a cool vibe and a great reputation for animal welfare – and that’s what I got – A non-for-profit diner giving its profits to animal welfare. I can’t believe there are reviews slating this place for serving junk food! The Unity Diner (UD) website clearly shows what they serve and there’s enough reviews on Google, TripAdvisor and HappyCow to know what they serve.
Read moreThe Menu is extensive (images uploaded) with lighter plates, big pleats, sides, snack, desserts, drinks, mocktails and cocktails. If you can’t find something junky to eat here, you’re not going to find it elsewhere.
The “ToFish & Chips” was the very best vegan fish and chips I’ve eaten (see images). In fact, I was a massive fan of fish before turning vegan and I’ve never had vegan fish taste and look like the real thing before – and Seitan knows I’ve tried a lot of them including banana flower. I presume it’s a Moving Mountains ToFish fillet as they use a lot of MM meat substitutes. The fish was big, perfectly shaped like a fish and curled up like a real fish that had hit the hot oil. They used their own UD beer-batter which was crispy and tasty on its own, but the star was the fish – It was fluffy, had the bite of real fish, and with the nori, it tasted like the real thing. Not fishy smelling or seaweedy like I’ve had before, just a fresh wet-fish taste, with a squeeze of the lemon wedge which was on the side. The tartar sauce is claimed to be ‘legendary’ and I’m not a big fan of tartar sauce but it was very good and I did manage to eat half of it so well done. The second star on the plate was the mushy peas – Not runny or thick or a meagre portion, it was a full side bowl full of peas with bite and flavour that accompanied the fish and chips perfectly. I'd have them in bread on their own (northerner!).
The lemonade has a selection of flavours which I thought was odd (why not just have flavoured carbonated drinks?) but the mango in lemonade was refreshing and I enjoyed it. It was served in a big glass too which lasted the meal.
I like to be critical to show the review isn’t too gushy but I really couldn’t fault the design, style, music, friendly and knowledgeable staff, their ethos, the menu, the execution, presentation or food itself.
Would I go back – yes, I’d like to eat the dirty loaded fries, the omni pork steak and surf n’ turf dog.
Would I recommend – Definitely.
Pros: Lots of vegan junk food, All profits go to animal welfare, Fairly priced
