One of the ultimate stand out vegan places I’ve ever been to in my life. The three of us had their famous £22 Sunday Roast extravaganza each selecting a different meat (roast chicken, lamb and turkey). You are also provided with a Yorkshire Pudding then it’s self-service vegetables and all the usual trimmings such as sauces, stuffing and lashings of gravy. I had a bit of everything, piled my plate high then proceeded to devour the whole feast with a pint of their delicious Posh Lager overlooking Petticoat Lane Market. Not a bad way to spend an early Sunday afternoon before hitting The Oval for some T20 cricket action.

I had some time to kill at Liverpool Street before getting my train home and was feeling a bit peckish, so opened up my happy cow app to see what on offer in the area and came across Unity Diner. It was less than a ten minute walk away, and I felt I deserved better than an overpriced vegan roll from Warren's, so I decided to head down.
Read moreI was cheerfully greeted by one of the chefs on arrival and invited to take a seat. The room was lovely and the waitress was quickly over to explain how it all worked. She was really very nice and professional, putting me at my ease as I was feeling a little awkward coming for a sit down meal alone!
There was lots of tempting items on the menu, including some excellent sounding starters and doner that i could see spinning in the kitchen. As I was on a schedule, I went straight for a main.
I decided against the doner and ordered the double cheese and bacon burger, chips and a pint. My pint came in quick time (which I was most grateful for) and was served in a posh glass, which was no less than I deserved.
While waiting for my meal I perused the website and learned Unity is a non profit enterprise with any money made going to an animal sanctuary the Diner helped set up.
My meal followed not too long after and was really very good. It wasn't the best burger I've ever eaten, but I was very satisfied and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I will definitley come again and bring my other half so we can tackle more of the menu, including starters and cocktails. As it's basically a charity it would be unethical not to!

Sunday roast dinner. The food tasted great and was reasonably priced. I felt the roast offered excellent value for money, though I wish there had been more meat-free servings.

I loved the food here, I just wish it wasn't so reliant on meat replacements. The lemonade was really nice, I got the kebab burger (without sides), and it was definitely nice. I loved the soft serve sundae though! I got the raspberry one, it's just like a classic seaside whippy sundae but vegan, I'd definitely go back just to try the other flavours. Staff were great and the restaurant is nice looking and well set out.

Really fab atmosphere and very friendly lovely staff. Food was beyond amazing, cannot believe I have never been before! Definitely worth a visit and return to. Had the mozzarella sticks and tofish and chips, both worth the hype. Top vegan experience.

Fabulous food and I love the ethos of not just veganism but also that my money directly helps animals . I have eaten the Sunday roast as well as from the main menu whenever I visit London to see family, always amazing. And I love that all the farmed animal pictures on the walls are of animals who are living their best life at Surge Animal Sanctuary.

My first proper vegan Sunday lunch carvery - Edit
After years and years of being told ‘Suzy you can only eat the ones in those dishes but none of the others’, the others being mashed potatoes, cauliflower cheese, Brussels sprouts (they’d had bacon bits added), Yorkshire puddings and gravy - to be faced with a full carvery and vegetable buffet where I could eat everything (and did!). Heaven.

Ala carte disappointing - Edit
I so wanted to love this place - 100% vegan and non profit, a great ethos (aside from an Oreos dessert - which I and others might boycott) with a delicious sounding menu - but I was disappointed. Wagyu beef sounded amazing, but really it wouldn't have fooled anyone at being meat, I sometimes hate things tasting too much like the 'real' deal, but this was so far off I didn't feel it was worth it. The skewered chicken pieces were saved by the marinade - the chicken itself just didn't hit any marks for me. The fried calamari texture was spot on, and derived all it's flavour from the dipping sauce and lemon (which is true I presume of normal calamari.) The cocktails were lovely! But by the end of the meal the total charge was more than half of my bill at Gautier Soho, which was an absolute dream, and multiples better. I'd only come back to try the Sunday roast which seems very highly rated.

But I was so happy to try a Yorkshire pudding for the first time, it was amazing! Better than I imagined.
Sad I missed out on crackling they didn't have any when I was there at 12-1 on a Sunday. Also sad they ran out of pumpkin spice syrup.

I'd been excited to come here for ages. I came a few months back with my son and got the Cheeseburger. I found it really disappointing but figured not all places are great at burgers or was maybe an off night.
Read moreCame again last night (thinking the burger thing might have been a one off). I got the Lobster Roll & my Partner got the Wagyu steak. The Lobster Roll sounded amazing but was really bland (you need to put Nori in it guys to give it a more fishy taste), it's says it's got loads of Garlic butter in but didn't taste of garlic at all, was genuinely one of the most bland things I've ever eaten. The Wagu was decent but nothing mind blowing for the price and all the sauce & garnish just tasted burned and didn't really have flavour other than being over cooked.
It's such a good place and one I want to keep supporting everytime I'm in London, but the food definitely needs to step up a touch. We're in no way food snobs, we absolutely love diner style vegan food. It's just I've been here two times now and it's really not that great, which is a shame because I really want it to succeed.

Toilet at the back, near Okja bakery, brilliant ethos, ordered the skewers and deep fried cheese. Wasn't super melty but v tasty. Fun having something deep fried that's vegan 🤩 dip was good too. My partner got the lobster roll, wouldn't recommend wasnt fun.

Been to Unity Diner a few times now- food is always solid, but the wagyu fillet I had on my most recent trip was absolutely knockout.

Unity Bar was so good. The staff were super friendly, the food was amazing and the vibe was really nice. We went on a Sunday when it's the vegan carvery day and it was fab! So good to just be able to get anything you want. My eyes were bigger than my belly and I got a huge plate full but I still ate every bit, it was so good!!

The vegan hot dog wasn't exactly what I'd hoped for. Partly because I didn't like the taste of the particular mustard they used and partly because I didn't like the texture of the sausage. It was just really soft.

The chips were really crispy and the slaw was quite good.
Sadly the waitress seemed to not be feeling it today (at least that's what I hope it was), since she seemed quite unmotivated and like she didn't really want to be here.
So part of the reason why I didn't love my time there was that I felt kind of unwelcomed and it smelled kind of odd (not sure how to describe it but let it be said that I'm kind of sensitive when it comes to smells)
I did come back later in the day for a Chocolate Oreo Crunch Shake to go and the other waitresses I met this time around were really nice and friendly and made me feel very welcomed. Also the shake was amaziiing
Edit: I originally only gave 3 stars but since I felt this pull towards the restaurant for the whole week I stayed in London and actually ended up visiting 3 times to try more of the food I think it's only fair to raise the rating

I had the chips and fried calamari. The chips were just that, chips. But I hadn't eaten calamari since going vegan and these were just so realistic, a firm texture and really good flavour.
