So much more than words can transmit

One of the ultimate stand out vegan places I’ve ever been to in my life. The three of us had their famous £22 Sunday Roast extravaganza each selecting a different meat (roast chicken, lamb and turkey). You are also provided with a Yorkshire Pudding then it’s self-service vegetables and all the usual trimmings such as sauces, stuffing and lashings of gravy. I had a bit of everything, piled my plate high then proceeded to devour the whole feast with a pint of their delicious Posh Lager overlooking Petticoat Lane Market. Not a bad way to spend an early Sunday afternoon before hitting The Oval for some T20 cricket action.

Pros: Amazing food , Wonderful staff , Ethical interior

Good experience

We came to Unity Dinner after many years to try the vegan carvery. The food was ok, parsnips and carrots were hard and we couldn’t eat them. We would have liked more generous meat portions and a couple of smiles from staff but appreciate everyone can have an off day and the restaurant was very busy. Overall a good experience.

Pros: Tasty food

Cons: Minimum vegan meat , Hard parsnips and carrots

Meh

Slightly disappointed.
The server at the carvery gave me a small portion of vegan meat, the vegetables were hard and cold and I couldn’t cut them- for £22 I expected better. Also the staff weren’t the friendliest to us- this is unfortunate as I’ve always been a supporter of Ed and his work.

Cons: Tiny meat portion , Vegetables hard , Vegetables cold

Very yum, nice vibe

Been meaning to try UD for ages and finally went at the random hour of 4pm for a hot chai and a snack. Personally, the whole menu is not my style at all, very fast foody. I chose the chai latte and donner chips. The chai was one of the yummiest I’ve honestly ever had, and the chips were really yum. Will def come back, but would loveee to see some healthier things on the menu, soups, curries, stir fry - just something a bit fresh! The service was stun but the food took ages to come out, which is why it’s a 4/5 not 5/5.

Pros: Chai with honeycomb syrup 😍, Friendly staff

Tourists in London 🍔

A Happy Cow find strikes gold again. Wonderful vegan food at Unity Diner. Quiet Friday lunchtime, Doner loaded fries, and a bacon cheese burger. Cool interior - a glowing sign saying ‘The Future is Vegan’; I wholeheartedly hope & agree.

Fully vegan with lots of options

Wanted to visit for a while. Staff friendly. Noticed the vegan kebab on entering so I knew I was going to get that. Would love to try the Sunday carvery. Was tempted to get tofu and chips.

Seasonal drinks, cocktails. Happy hour.

Food was lovely, would have preferred some chips with my kebab. Filling, on the pricey side. Donated to the sanctuary.

Pros: Lots of options, varied menu , Support/ donation to sanctuary , Seasonal drinks

Cons: Pricey. , Would have preferred chips with kebab and + mayo

New location, new Sunday carvery

I’ve been twice to the Sunday carvery, most recently the “festive” pre-Xmas one. You can go back for more of the side dishes, gravy and condiments and choose one of the mains (several choices) and one Yorkshire pudding (GF option available). I liked most of the dishes; a few were less tasty than others. All good food. Set price, with included gratuity.
I’ve also attended a fundraising dinner for Surge Sanctuary. It was a set, three-course menu. The starter was interesting and not warm; the main (risotto) was too large a serving; the dessert was nice enough (I liked the ice cream). All three were not colourful at all, so low marks for presentation. The courses were spaced out too far, so it made for a long evening. The staff was working hard.
They have a two-for-one burger offer Mon-Sat, 12-5 pm. I’d like to try some of the regular menu…

OLD review:
I visited when it was located near Old Street. I had the Surge Burger: mushroom/cashew patty on pink beetroot bun, GBP10. The bun bottom didn’t hold up to the moist patty.
Be aware that 12.5% is added to bills. Profits support Earthling Ed and his animal advocacy work.

Vegan Sunday roast!

The Sunday Carvery is amazing. They have several vegan meats to chose from as a main. I had the chicken and my husband had the lamb. They were both great. It’s the first time I’ve had a Yorkshire pudding since I’ve never seen a vegan one before, having visited the UK 4 times. The rest of the sides are buffet style and they all were delicious. I’ll be back during my next visit to London!

Truly disappointing. The food simply wasn’t good!

I don’t understand the hype of this place. I get that it has history, but wow, one of our dishes was meh (tofish and chips), and the other one we simply couldn’t eat (something wrapped in ‘bacon’), it was that terrible. And we usually aren’t picky at all. Won’t return and was very disappointed.

Lived up to expectations.

I had the lobster mushroom roll and love it! I have wanted to visit this place for a long time and it was just as good as I'd hope it would be.

Pros: Interieur

Cons: Preise, Kellnerin

Something different

I aould say, that the food there is special, because I never had something like that. It was not my favorite, but it was not bad. My sauce was very greasy and full of pepper. I guess it was my mistake ordering something that I wasn't sure about.

Lots of vegan meat alternatives!

It was good but more of a one and done kind of place. I went for the Sunday roast and it was pretty similar to thanksgiving food in the states. It was cool to have a vegan-style buffet, but most of the options were a little too heavy for me

Amazing Sunday carvery!

I visited unity diner on a Sunday and a non-sunday. On the regular, non-sunday, menu, there are so many options to choose from. The tofish bites were incredible. I had the steak 2.0 as well, but it wasn't quite as good as the tofu. The biscoff Sundae was delicious.

The Sunday Carvery buffet is top notch. You get one main - I chose the mushroom Wellington which was phenomenal - one Yorkshire pudding, and as many sides as you can eat, buffet style. The crispy potatoes, vegan crackling, Brussels sprouts, and roasted carrots and parsnips were my favorite. And then for dessert we tried the sticky toffee pudding which was great, and the deep fried Yorkshire sundae which was incredible! So much food and so delicious. Highly recommend! Plus part of the proceeds benefit animals at surge sanctuary 🥰

Disinterested staff

Was really looking forward to eating here after reading so many good reviews.
The food was ok, nothing special, my main was lukewarm and I had to send it back. They did actually re make my food rather than reheat it, which was nice!! But what was really disappointing was the waitress and other staff just looked so bored and disinterested, not a welcome or a smile. Everything just seemed like it was too much trouble. The bill was £146 for 3 of us without desserts. I was shocked, I suppose this is normal for London, but imo it wasn't worth it. As I said, nothing special and definitely won't waste my time or money there again. What a shame as the old Unity Diner was lovely.

Pros: Convenient, Fully vegan, Gf options

Cons: Service, Overpriced, Ridiculously small portions

WOW!!

My husband and I went for their Sunday carvery after wanting to go to Unity Diner ever since we were together in London in 2019. I must say, the Sunday roast really blew my expectations!! I had the roast chicken and my husband had the braised turkey with all the trimmings and a yorkshire pudding. I must say, this might have been one of the best meals I have had in a long long time.

I really wish we had time to test out their al a carte menu during the weekdays, but that just means we'll have an excuse to travel to London again!

Pros: Amazing vegan comfort food, Non-profit, Good vibes

Great vegan food.

We came here twice for dinner:
From the regular menu we got the tofish, London cheese burger and the Shoreditch Cheese Steak. The tofish was the best we had in England; quite soft and not too fishy (the toddler ate almost all of it.) Also the tartar was great.
Burger was good, nothing too special. Cheese Steak Roll was also great, but messy to eat.

The second evening we were there for the Sunday Carvery. Everything tasted great. We even got to try all three meats (chicken; turkey and lamb). Texture wise the turkey and lamb were quite similar; one in brown sauce, the other in lighter sauce. The chicken tasted like vegan chicken bites you can buy at the store and make at home.
Not sure, how Yorkshire pudding is suppose to taste. Tasted a bit like a mashed potato muffin. Not bad, but definitely an interesting side dish. ;)
From the other side dishes the cauliflower cheese and the cabbage pea mix was my favorite.
I tried a bit of all the sauces. But I guess I just don’t have the British insider knowledge of how to combine the sauces with the food.

We also tried the Sundae! Very good. And the mocktail happy hour deal.

Many seats, but reservation is definitely recommend. Fills up fast after 6:30pm.

The Future is Vegan

There was so much choice that you can't help but feel spoiled. We opted for variety and selected a number of small plates in the form of Crispy Tofish Bites, Smokey Mushroom Skewers, Golden Calamari Rings, Loaded Fries, and the Peri Peri Chicken Skewers - we couldn't recommend them enough. Everything is created with such care and accuracy that Unity Diner demonstrates a perfect example of going plant-based and retaining all your favourite dishes. I can't wait to go back and try the vegan carvery.

Pros: Brilliant food, Entirely Vegan, Wonderful Staff

A cracking roast!

Unity Diner have delivered a great vegan alternative to a traditional pub cravery. It probably wasn’t the best meal I’ve ever had, but it was tasty and filling and hit the spot - which is exactly what you want from a Sunday roast! You can choose your main (chicken, turkey, lamb, nut roast or mushroom wellington) then you add as many toppings and sides as you like. You could even go back for seconds (although we didn’t manage to do that!)

Nice to see it back

First time visiting. Lovely to see this place had a chance to try again after reopening.

Me and my husband enjoyed our visit and did say we'd go again!

Chips were banging and my husband's steak was lovely.

Did find it a little pricey for what it was.

Cons: Price

Amazing place!

Went here after many years away and I enjoyed the food and I love the ethos of the place. ‘Tofuish and chips’ was amazing!

I did feel the service was a tad awkward though in the sense that I wasn’t made to feel welcome.
