Big thumbs up for the ramen, small for the curry - Edit
Ordered: White sesame seed tantan-men. Got a decent sized bowl of ramen with a rich stock (definitely tasted of sesame!) topped with bok-choy, red onions, beansprouts, green onions, and little flecks of saffron.
Read moreMenu is a good size. They have three varieties of tantanmen (white, black, and gold), as well as non-ramen meals (curry, udon, rice-bowls), side dishes, and an ice-cream dessert. They also do their own brand of packaged take-out food.
The first thing I tasted was a rich umami sesame broth! Very flavourful! I added a little extra tantan spice to crank up the heat level and it was BEAUTIFUL! The noodles soaked up the broth really well too.
My non-veg mum and sister both ordered the curry with lentils/beans. It came with a side salad and miso soup. I tried some of the curry and it was definitely good, but I don’t think the flavours were as balanced as they were in the ramen. The taste of garam masala was a little overpowering, though not enough to detract from the overall taste of the curry. Of course as long as it tastes good, there’s no real issue. Mum and sister enjoyed their meals and commented on the generous serving size.
So I'd definitely recommend the white sesame tantan-men, but the curry I’m less sure about.
Ambience is nice too. Medium sized place that probably seats about 20 people. We went at around 2 or so and there was no wait time but the restaurant still had quite a few people in it considering it was outside the lunch rush hour. Because of this, I’d imagine that the place could get quite busy during the rush hours.
As a final note, finding this place wasn’t as straightforward as I thought it would be. I had Apple Maps on to find this place, and it took us in the general direction (Asakusa exit) but not actually to the restaurant. From there, I asked for directions and found out that the restaurant was actually on the third floor of the station behind the JR ticket gates. I was traversing Japan without a JR pass, and so needed to pay a small fee to go through the gates. Not a problem at all, but if you’re planning to visit this place, be aware of the aforementioned. Once you go through the ticket gates though, it’s quite easy to find… go straight until you see the bookstore and then make a left and keep going straight for a little longer. The restaurant is on the left close to Ecute.
Overall, this place is well worth the visit if you happen to be in Ueno
Pros: Good manageable sized menu, Value for money, Nice ambience
Cons: A little more difficult to find

fantastico cibo - Edit

Delicious Ramen inside Ueno station - Edit
I have been here time and time again and T's Tantan never disappoints. The flavors are always rich. Always comforting. SO HAPPY they opened a shop in Ueno. Try the "black sesame" (kuro goma) Tantanmen. You won't be disappointed!

vegan in Ueno park - Edit
Absolutely delicious! The location in Ueno park is easy to find, inside the ticket gates, but on the main floor. As you enter from the park gates, turn left and then right, you will see several restaurants. This one is at the end. I’m so happy I finally get to enjoy ramen in Japan!

absolutely amazing! - Edit
This place is quite hard to find because I had no idea how big the ueno station was. I had to ask the information desk for directions but they were very helpful. If my memory serves me correctly, it is located on the third floor inside the jr line towards the park gate exit. We had to buy a ticket to go inside but it was SO worth it. I had the veggie cod roe udon and it was so amazing. My boyfriend who is a meat eater had the "pork cutlets" and he loved it as well. We had also had some beer, veggie dumplings, and the panda ice cream for dessert. Everything was amazing and I would highly recommend it. The interior and design of the place was also very cute and cozy. It is also very reasonably priced in my opinion. I think the total for 2 of us came to around 30 US dollars, and that was for a lot of food. It even included some instant noodles that I got to go.

More than I expected - Edit
I went here after arriving at my hotel in sugamo for dinner. It was hard to find so I asked the information desk and she knew exactly where it was, but it was still hard to find as it is not on the new maps.
Read moreThere was a lady who spoke great English there and gave me an English menu, I know they love her because numerous customers come in and dont speak Japanese, I didnt. I saw a few other customers come in and were like what when someone spoke japanese and it ended with giggles when the english staff answered. Warming atmosphere and attentive staff.
I tried the golden tantan, it was delicious. I even had the gyoza and the ice cream. The ice cream was good. The panda has two mint chocolate ears with chocolate eyes. The best vegan ice cream I have tasted!
They even have takeout things like the T's Instant Ramen and Sandwhiches and dried soy meat. I was happy to see these and bought these because having a quick meal when you cannot go to a restaurant out the way while traveling is pretty hard for a vegan!

Best dumplings I’ve ever had in my entire life! - Edit
I loved this place so much that I went a few times, as it’s inside the Ueno JR Station (near the Park Gate) it’s a really easy place to reach. I tried their signature white sesame ramen and also the veggie pork, both incredible! The ramen was a bit spicy for my liking but the veggie pork was spectacular. I also recommend the veggie dumplings, they’re SO GOOD I could only eat that and I’d be happy for the whole day. There’s something about them that I can’t really explain and they’re also different from the Tokyo’s restaurant.
Read moreDifferent from the Tokyo Station one it’s way less crowded and there are more non ramen options, so it’s nice if you’re not craving that type of carbs.
Pros: Dumplings , Dumplings , Inside Ueno Station

Quality I expect from T's Restaurant - Edit
T's TanTan in Tokyo station is one of my favorite restaurants to visit when I'm in the area. I was so happy when I heard they were expanding to Ueno. The restaurant in Ueno lived up to the high expectations I have with T's chain. They have three different ramen options along with more yoshoku choices such as curry and ginger "pork." They have a take out section now too!
