Awesome Food - Edit

Honestly some of the best food I’ve ever eaten (had the black sesame ramen & gyoza meal) and at a good price. Note because it’s in the station, you need a ticket. You can buy a ‘platform’ ticket from the machine for ¥140, then it’s on the row of restaurants high up above the platforms, by the escalator down to platform 8.

Loved this! - Edit

Had a great vegan ramen here. The restaurant was a little bit hard to find but worth it. They also do take-away vegan pot noodles which were really helpful to have on hand whilst travelling.

Another great T’s shop! - Edit

Just like the other T’s Tantan, serves great noodles when you’re in a hurry! Very convenient when you’re passing through major stations and need a bite. The menu was slightly different to the other shop, which was nice, and the food was still tasty!

Pros: Delicious noodles , Super handy location, Fast and convenient with you’re on the go

Cons: Not really a place to sit and relax for a while

The quality of food was disappointing - Edit

Yes, it’s vegan and the value for money ratio might be good. But I also want to eat good quality food and want to know what I eat. In the curry, I could not recognize the ingredients and it looked and tasted (and most probably was) industrial.

好吃但有點難找的餐廳 - Edit

這家素食在JR上野站內,如果不搭JR就必須買月台票進站用餐,這是有點麻煩的地方。

Pros: 餐點選擇多

Cons: 味道有點鹹

Great Ramen - Edit

This was the first all vegan ramen place I've been to and it was really good. There is a wide variety of different ramen meals and you can add dumplings or fried soy meat for cheap. This is the perfect place to go if you happen to be in the train station otherwise you have to pay into the area.

Pros: all vegan

Cons: location

Best Ramen - Edit

I’ve had several bowls of ramen from different locations throughout Japan but this was hands-down the best on my list!

They have a small selection of instant ramen that you can purchase at the register.

Pros: fully vegan, great prices, friendly staff

Bit awkward to find, in the station opposite track 8.
Had very nice vegan ramen....from what I could see everything was vegan.
Nice easy going eatery....no problem ordering or being understood.
Would go again if in that neck of the woods.

Big thumbs up for the ramen, small for the curry - Edit

Ordered: White sesame seed tantan-men. Got a decent sized bowl of ramen with a rich stock (definitely tasted of sesame!) topped with bok-choy, red onions, beansprouts, green onions, and little flecks of saffron.

Menu is a good size. They have three varieties of tantanmen (white, black, and gold), as well as non-ramen meals (curry, udon, rice-bowls), side dishes, and an ice-cream dessert. They also do their own brand of packaged take-out food.

The first thing I tasted was a rich umami sesame broth! Very flavourful! I added a little extra tantan spice to crank up the heat level and it was BEAUTIFUL! The noodles soaked up the broth really well too.

My non-veg mum and sister both ordered the curry with lentils/beans. It came with a side salad and miso soup. I tried some of the curry and it was definitely good, but I don’t think the flavours were as balanced as they were in the ramen. The taste of garam masala was a little overpowering, though not enough to detract from the overall taste of the curry. Of course as long as it tastes good, there’s no real issue. Mum and sister enjoyed their meals and commented on the generous serving size.
So I'd definitely recommend the white sesame tantan-men, but the curry I’m less sure about.

Ambience is nice too. Medium sized place that probably seats about 20 people. We went at around 2 or so and there was no wait time but the restaurant still had quite a few people in it considering it was outside the lunch rush hour. Because of this, I’d imagine that the place could get quite busy during the rush hours.

As a final note, finding this place wasn’t as straightforward as I thought it would be. I had Apple Maps on to find this place, and it took us in the general direction (Asakusa exit) but not actually to the restaurant. From there, I asked for directions and found out that the restaurant was actually on the third floor of the station behind the JR ticket gates. I was traversing Japan without a JR pass, and so needed to pay a small fee to go through the gates. Not a problem at all, but if you’re planning to visit this place, be aware of the aforementioned. Once you go through the ticket gates though, it’s quite easy to find… go straight until you see the bookstore and then make a left and keep going straight for a little longer. The restaurant is on the left close to Ecute.

Overall, this place is well worth the visit if you happen to be in Ueno

Pros: Good manageable sized menu, Value for money, Nice ambience

Cons: A little more difficult to find

fantastico cibo - Edit

Delicious Ramen inside Ueno station - Edit

I have been here time and time again and T's Tantan never disappoints. The flavors are always rich. Always comforting. SO HAPPY they opened a shop in Ueno. Try the "black sesame" (kuro goma) Tantanmen. You won't be disappointed!

Pros: Great location for travel (don't have to exit), Options other than just ramen (salads), Best ramen in Tokyo?!

Cons: Smaller than Tokyo Station Location, Cookbooks are fake. Purely decorative haha, Some ramen might be difficult for peanut allergy

vegan in Ueno park - Edit

Absolutely delicious! The location in Ueno park is easy to find, inside the ticket gates, but on the main floor. As you enter from the park gates, turn left and then right, you will see several restaurants. This one is at the end. I’m so happy I finally get to enjoy ramen in Japan!

a bit hit or miss but I'd go again - Edit

I usually go to T's TanTan in Tokyo but I was in the area so I stopped by. I tried the panda ice cream and avocado and tomato poke bowl.

The ice cream was a hit for me. The scoop is small, which I like because I am trying to limit my sugar intake. The ears are chocolate and the eyes look like raisins, but they are actually sugared black beans.

The poke bowl was not to my taste at all. It had a soy-sauce wasabi flavor. I'm familiar with that flavor base but I found this particular one really overpowering. I like wasabi but it was just too much. It also had a ton of soy mayo on top, which I found overpowering as well. And worst of all, the avocado was underripe like a rock. I ended up having to pick it out, which ruined the point of having an avocado dish. I had to wash the food down with a ton of water to finish it.

I'd go again but pick a different main. There aren't many vegan choices in the area and the location is really good.

I've head some complain that the staff in the Tokyo branch gives you an English menu if you look foreign, whether you want one or not. I'm not picky about that, but the waitress asked me politely right off the bat if I wanted an English or Japanese menu, so that's something that I predict people will like about the Ueno branch.

Pros: Some dishes better than others, Great location, Polite staff

Cons: Didn't like the main at all

absolutely amazing! - Edit

This place is quite hard to find because I had no idea how big the ueno station was. I had to ask the information desk for directions but they were very helpful. If my memory serves me correctly, it is located on the third floor inside the jr line towards the park gate exit. We had to buy a ticket to go inside but it was SO worth it. I had the veggie cod roe udon and it was so amazing. My boyfriend who is a meat eater had the "pork cutlets" and he loved it as well. We had also had some beer, veggie dumplings, and the panda ice cream for dessert. Everything was amazing and I would highly recommend it. The interior and design of the place was also very cute and cozy. It is also very reasonably priced in my opinion. I think the total for 2 of us came to around 30 US dollars, and that was for a lot of food. It even included some instant noodles that I got to go.

Pros: all vegan, English on menu with pictures , accepts credit card

Cons: hard to find
