Comfort Food Finale - Edit
Vegan Food Cartel was our final eatery after a month in Istanbul. It was a good choice. There were three tables outside and more inside. It was a nice spring day, so we opted for al fresco. We're not frequent mock meat eaters, but the reviews suggested they were worth trying here. So we ordered the doner wrap and the crunch burger. They were great; would definitely order those again. The service was friendly and good value for a filling lunch.

I had the 3 specials and the fudge cake. The fudge cake tasted like coconut which was nice but it had no texture variety just pure fudge so i give it a 6.5/10. The burger was fine but nothing amazing nor bad so a 5/10. Thr kebab bowl was good but i wasnt a fan of the fries being put at the bottom as this makes them completely soggy so a 7/10. The fried seitan bowl was fine so a 5/10.

Best vegan food in Turkey! - Edit
Had to visit this place after seeing the menu online. It’s tucked away on a side street on the Asia side of Istanbul surrounded by other food places. The shop os small with a great vibe and lovely team. We had the shish bowl and the tomato sauce bowl, both were so so flavourful, and the shish came with really flavourful rice. If you’re in Istanbul I’d 100% recommend dropping in. Beat kabab I’ve had!

By far, the stand out for us were the Kebap plates. As vegans, BBQ is one thing we have a harder time to find, especially good ones. This plate hit the spot hard.
Prices are relatively fair, and the staff friendly enough. There's also a 10% discount if you pay cash.

Small casual joint. More simple foods. Had a cesear salad wrap that was ok. Doner wrap was better, spicy if you order that way. Fries smaller and crispier than most, but plentiful as a side. They leave you all the dressings on the table - Bbq, mustard, ketchup. Only bottled water available.

The location, I think, it's quite challenging, they are a bit far away from the city center. And probably due to supply/demand adjustments they can't also NOT offer a big selection on food/different dishes, sadly.

The food was fine, though was very simple and lacked flavour - it was pretty much 'chicken' nuggets and chips or rice.
Read moreThe worst part was that an older gentleman was very clearly having issues with the digital menu/ordering and was waiting and the staff ignored him, sitting at a table playing on their phones. He was forced to ask for help from another customer, and they still sat there and didn't help.
With the dull atmosphere, it was overall a poor experience.

I respectfully disagree with a few previous reviews stating the food is lacking in flavor. This place was great and based around seitan as the main. The vegan döner was excellent and the hot sauce gave it a nice kick. A bit oily but this is standard for many restaurants. Owner was kind and clearly passionate about veganism. This place is very much worth visiting.

We were unfortunately disappointed with the food served here.
Read moreWe tried the shish kebab and Iskender kebab for our main with a side of fried vegetables.
The food was rather bland and although they serve mock meats, the seasoning and overall execution of flavours with the dish we found to be poor.
The fried vegetables were mostly peas and sweetcorn which was disappointing. Despite the iskender kebab being drenched in sauce and shish kebab lacking sauce, neither really hit the spot for us.
Maybe it was just a bad day? Or it is better to order a wrap as it might contain more flavour? I really don’t know…
It is a shame as I did want to like this place as many spoke highly of it :(( #Veganuary
