The Smokin’ Onion really is smokin’! - Edit
We finally got the chance to try this place and we hate that we couldn’t have tried it sooner! The staff were warm, friendly and welcoming. Menu is limited but the options are great and we wanted to try everything! We had the fried Brussels, a bowl of soup, Chick’n & Waffle, and a Bodhi Bowl. All we delicious!! If we had to pick a favorite though it would be the Fried Brussels. Wonderful flavors, and everything is vegan so need to worry about forgetting to request substitutions or have something left off. We look forward to our next visit.

Read moreBut the food was kind of expensive and left a lot to be desired. The breading on the chick’n was too dry, the biscuits were flavorless, and the gravy was too spicy. The potatoes were good, though. And the avocado was fresh.

We were excited to finally try the Smokin Onion. Great variety of all vegan food is such a welcome sight! We stopped in for a late Sunday breakfast. A good amount of seating was helpful as they were doing good business. My partner had the French toast and our kids both had the Big Chick’N biscuit. I went with the breakfast plate. All of us were blown away! The Chik’n had such amazing flavor. The potato medley was delicious. The biscuits were to die for. I have to say we were all blown away. The French toast was flavorful without being too sweet. Awesome breakfast and a repeat destination the next time we are in Asheville.

Love this place. The ladies serving me were radiating joy and goodwill. Plus the food they served was fantastic! I had the Johnny Utah Wrap and a Side of even more steamed kale & broccoli! Along with the Oat Milk Latte, it was mouth-watering and filling!

I got the gyro with Brussels and they both had tons of flavor. The Brussels were a bit underdone for my liking, but the flavor was so good. The gyro meat was super moist and flavorful. My wife got the chicken and waffles which were also excellent.

We went on the 4th of July. The staff were super pleasant, and the food was AMAZING! Very cute place, they also sell cool t-shirts, cards and other stuff. We will be back the next time we’re in Asheville ♥️

Got the Johnny Utah wrap and its bowl equivalent and almost didn't have to eat for the rest of the day! It is really good food and the staff were friendly. Didn't take too long to get the food. Be ware, though, VERY limited parking. Best to park on the street or somewhere else and walk.

I’ve Given Up on This Place - Edit
The restaurant advertised a Vegan Japanese Night with six menu options. The event was from 7-9. We were in line when the restaurant opened and when we got to the counter, the restaurant still had empty tables. We were told they were out of four of the six items. The hostess said, “Have you seen how many people are here? We didn’t expect this.” I bit my tongue to not say they had not even filled the small restaurant yet and they’d only been open 20 minutes. We ordered at 7:20. At 830 my daughter inquired as to when our order would be ready. They said five minutes. 15 minutes later we got our food. Pancake was good but smaller than my hand. They were out of silverware so my daughter had to eat with her hands and my husband with a spoon. We were starving but because of the late hour, unable to go anywhere nearby to top off because places close at 9. The restaurant did not turn any tables while we were there and we were not the last people to be served. This was the last straw for this place. I have had other bad experiences here - primarily related to arriving to find the restaurant closed when social sites or website said they were open. I’m done. I really want to support vegan spots but this place is too unreliable.

We loved our breakfast here! Love that while it leans more on the junk food side of things, a lot of the ingredients (plant based meats etc.) are house made! The burrito was super flavorful and delicious! The pancakes were great! Lattes were enjoyed! The baked treats were top notch, too! Everyone working there was very kind and the vibes were great all around! We look forward to returning!

My husband and I always try to stop here when we are in Asheville. I consistently get the bodhi bowl, and he usually gets the special. We have never been disappointed. The staff is friendly, the space is cozy, and the food is exceptional. Don’t skip the chocolate peanut butter bars if they have them when you visit - they are fantastic!

In love with smokin onion! - Edit
The first time I had smokin onion was in March this year and it was so good I went back the next day. When I was staying in black mountain this week I made the 30ish minute drive to make sure I got some smoking onion! Obviously I love that the entire menu is vegan which makes it hard to choose but the clucking good sandwich is by far my fave. I also always get a sweet treat and it’s so wonderful to have delicious vegan baked goods/pastries! Cute environment and friendly staff! I also (as a baker and someone who loves to cook) respect the consistency because I have gotten this sandwich 3 times and all 3 times it was exactly the same and so delicious!

So grateful to have a place in town to get a good vegan brunch! Everything I've tried has been wonderful. The Brussels sprouts and the fried green tomatoes are unreal. And the pancakes! The staff are extremely friendly and the whole place just gives me good vibes. Really enjoy coming here.

Every thing we ordered was outstanding! We were amazed at how fast everything was prepared, and the restaurant was full. Incredible gyro, BLT, and fried green tomatoes! We got a breakfast burrito to take back to the hotel to eat in the morning. It’s was just right! Filling and flavorful but not heavy. It was also great to get pastry from back porch bakery. We will definitely be back!
