Disappointed - Edit
After reading the reviews, I was pretty excited about trying this place. I ordered mozzarella sticks, a Caesar Salad, the buffalo chicken sandwich and a slice of cheese cake. I wasn’t crazy about any of them. I was especially excited about the Caesar salad because not many places offer a vegan version. I wanted to try the raspberry or maybe it was strawberry 🤔 filled donut. They were out in the open and had flies on them. When my friend mentioned them to the cashier she stated there was nothing she could do about it. There were other donuts in a case so we didn’t understand why those were out in the open along with another kind.

You could serve this food to an omnivore - Edit
...and they would never know. The bacon and the macaroni salad look and taste just like the regular kind. My favorite is the lemon chicken sandwich with the bacon in it, the one near the top of the menu. Their sandwiches are overflowing with delicious contents, their mimosas are nice and strong, and their desserts are rich and sweet. Wish I could come here every day!!!! but I live out of state. New favorite place to eat in Berkeley though!!!

Fantastic options and crazy portions - Edit
You won't be disappointed by the amazing food menu and the gigantic portions. I'm a good eater and often find meal sizes too small for me. Not at this place! I'd say most people are probably full after eating half of the plate.
Read moreThe quality of the food is quite good. However, some items could be more flavorsome. For example, the fried mozzarella sticks don't taste that cheesy to me and the jackfruit tuna on the tuna melt sandwich could use more seafood flavor. Also the sliced chicken and the meatballs have too much of a seitan flavor to me. Nevertheless, in combination with all the other flavors on the sandwich, it works really well and is quite the experience.
Try the cheesecake if you still have room in your belly for desert, yum! And, oh, the bacon, wow!
The vibe is quite nice and they have great seating options outside. Their marketplace is also a big plus for this place.
I'd come back any time, especially when seriously hungry. Too bad, that they don't offer their brunch menu all day every day...
Pros: All vegan but not advertised as that, Huge portions & creative menu , Nice vibe & fun to hang out
Cons: Brunch menu not available any time ;), Meat items good be better seasoned

Best mock meats ever! - Edit
We waited for 5 minutes and then the line got super long so we knew it was going to be good. The first bite of the food was just so great and I’m sure you could pick literally anything off the menu and be 110% satisfied. The steak and cheese sandwich was sooo good! Can’t wait to come to NorCal again!

Fantastic place - Edit
Quite busy when we got there but worth the 20 minute wait. Gives you time to decide what you want - as a vegan it is not every day that you have so much choice. Portions are big and tasty, sitting on the back patio is quiet and makes for an awesome lunch!

The Killer B.L.A.T. is #1 vegan food. The fried chicken has such a good crispy and slightly greasy outside with a tender and juicy inside. The white bread goes well and the jalapenos plus other delicious toppings make it so amazing.

I Keep Coming Back! - Edit
The first few times I came here, about two years ago, I thought it was okay. Wasn’t a fan of the meat alternative, but now... I love it. I’ve had the Hot Garlic Lemon Chicken Pesto and it’s delicious. The best part is, the serving is so large!

Good for carnivore friends or if craving traditional deli - Edit
Some of the best vegan versions of non-vegan foods you’ll ever find. Not healthy at all (except maybe salad) but good if you’re having a deli or non-vegan Italian craving. Dog-friendly courtyard. Good deserts, too! My friend says best coffee he’s ever had.

It's amazing the food is all plant-based. Staff was really friendly. My patty melt was very juicy and hearty. Also got blackberry cheesecake, which was a little too sweet for my taste, but so creamy and yummy. Looking forward to coming back and trying other items!

Best vegan sandwiches in Berkeley and around. I was disappointed when they changed the menu and my favorite sandwich ended up disappearing but it's not the only burger that taste good there. They work so hard, the line it's so long at done hours, it's crazy.

Their meat alternatives are sooo dope! Like omg sometimes it kinda scares me in a way that it feels like chicken— but hey, the good thing here is not! I’m glad that this restaurant really helps us get our cravings satisfied— all cruelty free food ❤️ much love to this. Been here like several times now 😊😁

I have never had better vegan cheesecake. The burgers were good, but the desserts are out of this world. And also, the market grab and go stuff are great too.

The Butcher's Son - Edit
I am in love...
Read moreThe Butcher's Son is the perfect place to get vegan junk food made of mock meats and cheeses. I also love the no frills atmosphere and quick ordering process, which made this a quick, easy, painless, and extremely tasty dining process.
The moment I walked in here I wanted to order everything, and, well, I sort of did. I started with the vegan philly (without mushrooms) and a side of bacon mac. This was the perfect vegan junk food made with delicious seitan and gooey vegan cheeses. The seitan was sliced super thin which made the sandwich extra tasty overall...I shouldn't have finished it, but I did (I have to run 9 miles tomorrow anyway, ugh!). The bacon mac was seriously good too and the little bacons actually looked like bacon. While I have been vegetarian/vegan for over 30 years, I can't tell you what real bacon tastes like, but I'm sure this was pretty close. My bf got the grinder sandwich with coleslaw and he thought it was OK (I agree) and he was super jealous of my sandwich (which I kindly shared with him). His sandwich was still decent and he ate the whole thing so it wasn't like it was awful, just could have been better.
I also ordered a croissant to go (because I NEVER get to have these), a vegan bacon maple donut, and a vegan cannoli. I definitely did not like the cannoli, I've also never had a real cannoli in my life so I cannot compare to the non-vegan version. The maple bacon donut was extremely tasty, something of which I'll need to eat in moderation to maintain my waistline (thank goodness TBS is in Oakland!!!). And the croissant tasted amazing. Overall, I highly recommend this place and I'll be back on my "bad vegan" days!

That One Bad Experiance - Edit
So the cashier could not understand me when I was talking to her about purchasing a cheesecake at the marketplace. The cashier for the restaurant was not happy to see my family and I arriving late at all. The consumption of the overall cheesecake was not as devourable as other cheesecakes I have purchased or been given. My advice is to not pay attention to the open sign on Happy Cow app and instead call them about their most accurate hours.
