A great surprise find in Hakodate - Edit
My friend and I were stopping over in Hakodate and were struggling to find a vegetarian dinner option for the two of us, and we came across Taom! Feels like you’re being invited into a living room and given a meal. Rotates often, great selection of wine, and incredible service. Would highly recommend if you’re in Hakodate!

The further north we travel in Japan, the more difficult it seems to be able to find good vegan food. Taom was our saviour in Hakodate, providing us an exquisite, beautifully presented warm meal on a winter night so cold, that the front door had frozen over and the staff had to flood the entry with boiling water to unfreeze it so we could enter.
Read moreWe got ourselves a couple of vegan plates which were a very mild curry and a variety of vegetables, all which tasted incredible. The atmosphere was wonderful, like being invited into someone’s living room and having a meal prepared for you by a dear friend.
We would absolutely come back if we ever find ourselves in Hakodate. Thank you so much for the beautiful meal!

Only open Fridays and Saturdays, we didn’t book ahead but it wasn’t busy so easy to get a seat even though the place is quite small. Only one option of a set dinner (with or without small dessert). The day we were there the set meal was a selection of vegetable dishes and tofu prepared in many different ways, pickles, soup and rice, with mochi for dessert. All very tasty and a great selection. Nice to have a good range of vegetables as that can be tricky to find when eating out. Good wine selection, had some very nice orange wine. Host was very kind and service was great. Definitely try it out if you are in Hakodate on a Friday or Saturday.

This is one of the few vegetarian restaurants in Hakodate, and it was delicious! It’s mostly open for lunch, but I was able to go the one night a week it’s open for dinner (Saturday night). The owner is very kind and spoke English. The food was delicious, there was only one vegan plate on the menu, she just made me up a plate. It came with green tea, delicious miso soup with mushrooms in it, the freshest rice I’ve ever eaten. The plate had this amazing homemade fried seitan, miso eggplant; braised burdock root, edamame, a yuzu carrot salad, and a lettuce salad with a tasty miso dressing. It also came with a mini dessert, there were several vegan and gluten free options available. I asked for her favorite: a mochi like cube with matcha dust and an almost chocolate fermented black bean sauce. I also had a glass of the orange wine, it was a delicious Hokkaido wine! Highly recommend! The restaurant is also super cute, decorated with the owners collection of souvenirs from living in Uzbekistan. Wear socks, you will remove your shoes upon entry. A must visit!

We arrived at Taom quite late in the afternoon, but the owners was very happy to oblige and make us the vegan lunch plate of the day. The food was delicious, so many flavours and lots of little treats to choose from. The owner also recommended another local spot serving vegan food nearby for our dinner!

Super cute vegan restaurant in Hakodate. We were 2 vegans and 2 non-vegans and we all loved it. The non-vegans were impressed.
Read moreThey have a set menu for 1200 yen with a miso soup, white rice, vegetables with tofu, mochi dessert and tea. Really tasty and healthy! The tofu was amazing! Crispy outside and soft inside.
The woman in the restaurant speaks good English and is super nice, she treated us really well and was very chatty and friendly.
They also sell various vegan sweets of different flavors.
100% recommended! 💚
