The restaurant did not look like a typical Italian place, the exterior is understated and the building is a nice old-fashioned wooden construction. Inside is also wood panelled with a rustic vibe. It's quite small, only 4 or 5 tables, you can see the pizza oven behind the counter. We chose the margherita pizza and the white pizza with gorgonzola and walnuts. I'd say they were the best pizzas we have had in Japan, freshly made and delicious. There was an English menu but no veggie/ vegan marks.

Kleines verstecktes Restaurant mit einem netten, rustikalen Ambiente. Dank des Steinofens war es sehr warm. Das Essen hat sehr gut geschmeckt, vegan war leider nicht möglich, aber vegetarisch kein Problem. Gehen auch auf Extrawünsche ein (man kann Fleisch abbestellen.)

This Italian-style restaurant in Hakodate has a very nice atmosphere and the owner is very welcoming. The margherita here has a lot of cheese, and the crust is slightly burnt, and you can smell the faint crispy scent. The aroma of the basil and the sweetness of the tomatoes create the most perfect flavor of the pizza.

Friendly, helpful staff and familiar pizza - Edit
We hadn't been in Japan for long so we were a bit nervous to already find ourselves somewhere where vegetarian food was scarce. Thankfully, the waiter and chef were very friendly and seemed to understand when we flashed our card saying, "we're vegetarian etc" in Japanese.
Read moreI think there was a mushroom and bacon pizza on the menu so we asked for a couple of those but without bacon. The message clearly got through because we were soon served a pair of mushroom pizzas, which were quite oily, but certainly tasted like pizzas I'm used to in Europe.
It's quite small so it might be worth booking if you know you'll be in Hakodate for an evening.

The chef was very kind and said he could make a vegan pizza for me, even though it wasn’t on the menu. The pizza included mushroom and broccoli, and I added chili oil. So good and the base was amazing!

No Vegan Pizza or Pasta - Edit
After reading previous reviews, we were excited to try this place out. However, just to make sure the information is correct, I called them before going there. I spoke to the cook directly. He said only thing he can do vegan was just cook something up with vegetable he has. No vegan pizza or pasta. I am Japanese and there was no communication issue here. I am suspecting either the cook's changed or there was some misunderstanding with previous comments by others.

My partner and I dropped in for dinner and asked the chef for a vegan pizza and pasta (no vegan or vegetarian options listed on the regular menu) and he was more than happy to oblige. He confirmed if we were okay with garlic and mushrooms to which we said “yes.” And he proceeded to produce the most amazing vege based pizza and pasta. One of our favourite dining experiences in Japan so far!

Really tasty vegan pizza. Hardly anything in Hakodate, so Happy Cow suggested this and the cook was super friendly and helpful. Pizza was quick and the place was super warm, which on a cold day was great. he knew what vegan meant.

I followed the advice of another reviewer and asked for a vegan pizza. The chef (also owner?) was happy to oblige. I loved it. Would definitely recommend to others visiting Hakodate.
