Shrub has been a real 'grower' for me. Love the focaccia (never thought I'd be ordering bread...), there are lots of cool small plates, and the Shrub burger is a regular burger, nicely executed.

Lovely food in a super cool venue - Edit
This is a super cool venue in the pedestrianised Chester shopping area; it is upstairs and has heated undercover outdoor seating, overlooking the street below. The indoor areas are beautiful; a great deal of thought has gone into the decor. Even the washrooms were decorated with flowers! The menu is small but varied , ranging from a poke bowl to a burger. Everything is 100% plant-based and all the food coming out was freshly made, looking and smelling delicious. I had the pesto linguine which was superb. They also do a wide range of drinks including imaginative cocktails. The music was loud but very good and the staff were all lovely.

Satisfied all my cravings for a roast dinner, the house Seitan was banging 👌🏼 dog friendly, lovely terrace overlooking Chester city centre. Restaurant has a lovely vibe. Good beer options and the corn ribs were delicious 🤤

Absolutely stunning atmosphere. Beautiful food and service. We ordered the roast which was lovely, the cauliflower cheese was a nice touch. The only negative would be that I wish there had been a little more flavour and seasoning.. maybe some cranberry sauce on the side or maple seasoned carrots? It was delicious, but for the price- you expect amazing flavour.

First time at Shrub, the food was so good, fantastic menu choices and staff helpful and friendly. My partner and I shared a burger which was helpfully cut through for us and with it we chose a selection of small side dishes to share. The tofu side was wonderful, the asparagus and broccoli so good and best of all the fries dusted with what tasted like salt, pepper and Chinese five spice - not sure if that was correct but whatever it was; they were really, really nice! All yummy 😊😊

We had the cauli bites, falafel salad, chipotle wrap with s&p chips and pink lemonade donut.Couldn’t fault any of it. Cauli bites was a pleasantly large portion, comfortable enough for two people. Everything had a bit of spice but not enough to make it unenjoyable and the salt and pepper chips were incredible.

I’ve been meaning to come here for a while because i saw they had some vegan options, so I brought an open-minded friend to check it out.

A tastefully decorated, spacious place in an excellent location (provided you don't have mobility issues or a pushchair, as, like most Chester venues, there are many steps).
Read moreShrub does healthy food packed with flavour. They understand what vegan customers want. My beetroot hummus was sprinkled with toasted seeds. My jackfruit salad had proper lollo rosso, not rubbish iceberg lettuce. My cheesecake had a crunchy nut base. The jackfruit itself was crispy and oozing with sticky sauce. My partner won't stop talking about his broccoli and asparagus side dish, and urging me to try and recreate it. Very reasonable prices, too. We will be back soon.

So many delicious looking options, we had the seitan wrap and a few sides: Tofu and broccoli & asparagus with basil pesto (would recommend!). Great options as you can have a Mixture of small side plates, a standard sized dinner or lighter lunch plates. This was great value for money too.

Visited with a friend who didn’t realise the whole restaurant is vegan - said the gouda burger was the best he’d ever had! He didn’t believe me at first when I said it was a plant burger!

Food was gorgeous and I loved how the menu was filled with lots of fresh food and creative ways of serving vegetables rather than relying on mock meats! Everything we ordered was delicious, arrived quickly and the service was very good. Everything arrived quickly, including drinks, and we were checked on regularly throughout the meal. The restaurant itself also had a really good vibe and seemed to be doing really well.

Shrub is a fabulous place and I will definitely revisit. Its spacious, has a lovely vibe and the staff are brilliant too. Ordered corn ribs with BBQ sauce and beetroot houmous with flatbread...Mains were squash, baba ganoush with wild rice and quinoa for me and linguine verde for hubby who ended with raspberry chocolate tart. The food was excellent, full of flavour and very tasty, we left clean plates. Highly recommended.

I am never one to write reviews but I am so glad we found this place and hope many others will too. The food was incredible, so flavoursome, the BEST vegan restaurant I have visited in my 3 years so far as a vegan. Wonderful atmosphere created by the interior design, layout, lighting and waiters. My partner who isn't vegan thoroughly enjoyed the food too, struggling to believe this delicious food was plant based. We had a cauliflower starter we've been attempting to recreate since as it was so divine, we had no idea cauliflower could be so delicious. We enjoyed our evening so much we revisited the following day for Sunday lunch, which also did not disappoint. Delicious vegan food at such a reasonable price and wonderful staff/service. Faultless and I can not wait to return whenever we are able. THANK YOU.
