Lovely venue - Edit
Shrub is by Chester Cross so very central. It has a lively atmosphere and it is just great to have a wholly vegan menu. I ate every scrap of the mushroom wellington. Service was friendly without being pushy.

Made our day!! - Edit
Firstly regardless of the fact that this is a fully vegan restaurant... It is such a cool, relaxed and enjoyable place to spend time. The decor is very cool. Alex and his team seemed genuinely proud and enthusiastic and were very engaging . The food which is mostly served in a tapas style was absolutely fantastic, very varied and inventive. We were a group of four that all cook, and we were hugely impressed and inspired. The corn ribs and the artichoke wings were particularly good.

Super impressed with the food. Tasty and inventive dishes, cooked and presented beautifully. We were a table of 6 with only 1 vegan, 1 veggie and the rest omni, but everyone was super impressed. Lovely setting and great service. Can't wait to return to try more dishes :-)

We finally got to eat here. The last time we were in Chester it was closed for a private function. It was worth the wait. Very tasty tapas style meal, with a very friendly and helpful owner, who served us. Loved it

Gorgeous place - Edit
Lovely place, staff very helpful and friendly. They brought over menu and explain it was tapas based. Recommended 2/3 plates each. We ordered 2 each and it was more than enough. Everything tasted delicious. There is also and offer of 3 plates for £20 on certain days. Info was on toilet door

Absolutely amazing - Edit
Every tapas dish that we had was amazingly flavourful. The bbq artichoke wings and bbq broccoli spears were our favourites.
Read moreThe decor is modern and comfortable, the server was spot on and there are 4 different area to sit in, including a space pit on the balcony overlooking the main street through the town. (There is scaffolding and tarp wrapping the view at the moment.)
The food is well priced.
We’ll be heading back with friends.

Great find - Edit
It was our first time at Shrub, and I have to say we left very impressed. The service was great, attentive and friendly. The tapas were some of the best vegan tapas we’ve ever had, and we left absolutely stuffed. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Shrub to family and friends, and will definitely return when we next visit Chester.

Amazing - Edit
Probably one of the top 3 vegan places I've ever been to. The staff were really friendly and they were happy to talk about the menu and and recommend options. We tried a mezze, 3 of the small plates, the main and the szechuan chips. The stand out for me was the oyster mushroom BBQ kebab skewers, they were amazing. I would recommend this place to anyone 10/10.

Favourite Chester restaurant - Edit
Small plates restaurant that makes veg the star of the show rather than mock meats (which I think makes it more attractive to those that aren't vegan too). Creative, delicious and hard not to choose everything on the menu. Ive had full meals and just nipped in for a late night cocktail & dessert & always left happy.

Amazing food, really friendly staff and such a cosy setting (even when sat on the terrace in the wind lol). I recommend everybody gets the artichoke wings especially! The linguine is very similar to carbonara too

Best Vegan Restaurant Ever? - Edit
Genuinely don’t even know where to start. The atmosphere was so lovely and calming, the staff were super kind, friendly and efficient. Everything was priced super reasonably, the food was to die for!!! Especially the potatoes - so moreish. Everything was so delicious I think I’ll go again tomorrow lol. Iced chai latte went down a treat too💗I went with my non-vegan Dad who equally loved the food. Amazing cannot recommend enough !!

Exceptional Restaurant - Edit
Delicious food to suit everybody's tastes. We had a lovely mezze with a selection of small plates. We loved all the vegetable dishes and it was great that each vegetable was the star of the show. Everything was well flavoured and seasoned with a variety of interesting sauces for each dish. The hummus was lush I am after all half woman half hummus! The staff are really friendly and helpful. We would highly recommend and look forward to our next visit.

Lovely food although pricey - Edit
Me and my partner went here and really enjoyed the food we had. The portion sizes are quite small (especially the gyozas for the price) however we both agreed the food was really nice, I really liked the gnocchi I had as my "main". The teriyaki with the tofu was a bit rich though as there was a lot of it underneath in the bowl, but better than skimping on it as we could just get the excess off.
Read moreThe menu is a bit different to your average place although limited and it was interesting to see what else they had. The only con is drinks are small and filled with ice which watered the flavour down in no time so I would ask for none in future and the prices are quite high with an added optional service charge of 10% over £20. It does say optional however I'm sure most people feel uncomfortable asking for it to be removed so just note that as I don't remember seeing it on the menu or before we walked in anywhere that this would be the case.

One of the best outside London - Edit
This place was much bigger than expected, with outside seating aswell, and yet it was very busy. As far as I can see, the owners work there aswell, which is great. This is a small plate venue, which also serves Sunday lunch. So impressed we went back a few days later, and we were remembered! Welcoming atmosphere and lovely decor. Note toilets are not accessible and are up many stairs. Central location with 10% service charge added to bill, booking advised. Gluten free oat milk is the option for hot drinks. Gluten free bread is apparently homemade. Dessert choice is limited. Plates can come out sporadically and not necessarily in the order or pace you want them. They choose not to have real candles, but I think this would be a nice touch.
