Excellent choices, tasty food - Edit
The first few visits to Shrub were fabulous, great choices of tasty food. I took my football mates there in October 2022, none of who were vegan, and they all absolutely loved the burgers and katsu curry.

Brilliant all round - Edit
Loved it here! We came for dinner and it was amazing. My husband isn't vegan and even he wants to go back when we're are in the area again. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They were knowledgable with the menu for my daughters soy intolerance and adapting food for a toddler offering a plain tomato pasta for her. We had the hummus starter adapted with less oil etc for my daughter, it was lovely. We then had the crispy sprouts, vegetable gyoza small plates and the 'lamb' ragu and pumpkin tortellini pastas for our main part of the meal. All if it was delicious. We had dessert as well; apple dumpling and cookie dough blondie both fantastic too! Lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Outstanding - Edit
I am absolutely wowed!! Everything about Shrub is 10/10! The decor, the atmosphere, the staff, the food, all outstanding! This is probably one of the best vegan restaurant we have ever been! The food was outstanding! We had the pumpkin tortellini, burger, tofu, artichoke, fries and cambert! And finished off with cookie dough!!! The pumpkin tortellini was amazing! Will definitely be returning for this alone!!! My husband said the burger was fab! We enjoyed everything but out of the little dishes the tofu was a favourite!

Another great roast 👌🏼 service was great! We sat outside with the dog, they gave her water and made a fuss of her, I literally cannot fault this place!

Fully vegan restaurant - Edit
Visited many times including my son's 1st birthday with omnivore family and everyone loved it. Lots of different meals to choose from. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Feels like a "normal" restaurant experience but with the confidence that everything is vegan!

Went back - Edit
We stayed in Chester for five nights, and ate here twice during that period. Great food, loads of tapas sized dishes, plenty of taste, good selection of desserts, and some pasta and burgers. Lovely staff. Our only minor quibble was that the kimchi in the kimchi burger could have been fermented longer, but that’s a matter of taste. We really enjoyed our meals here.

Delicious vegan food - Edit
Amazing spot for lunch, the food is mainly tapas style with a few larger meal options. We had 2 seitan burgers, and a range of different tapas. It was DELICIOUS. Also loved the setting, we sat on the balcony. Loved it.

The absolute best! - Edit
If you're a vegan in Chester, Shrub is a must-visit! Situated atop The Rows, you can people watch from the flower-covered balcony. The food is NEXT LEVEL. We struggled to choose so we ordered the camembert, Szechuan tofu, Szechuan fries and artichoke small plates as well as a full Sunday roast between two of us. We ate every scrap! It was amazing to be able to get a decent roast - it was an oyster mushroom and leek wellington with roasties, veggies and a YORKSHIRE PUD!! The small plates were divine - the star of the show was the artichokes for us but we loved the Szechuan spice and the camembert was a decent dupe, from what I can remember! Staff are so lovely too. We'll definitely be back ❤️

Must go if in Chester - Edit
If you are visiting Chester and could only go to one place, make it shrub! The staff were super friendly, the food and cocktails were fantastic and there's so much variety in the menu. The option of small or large plates also means you can try more! Also whether just as a side or by themselves, the miso fries may be the best chips I've ever had.

Lovely food in great location - Edit
Tasty food in a fantastic location right in the middle of Chester. Really cosy interior with an additional seating area on a balcony looking down onto the Rows. A wide choice of vegan drinks are an added bonus!
Read moreWe went for some mushroom calamari and a hot dog and burger, but they do have more traditional dishes available. The food was tasty, but the prices are a little bit too much London-like ;)
Overall a lovely experience and we’ll definitely consider coming back on a future trip to Chester.

Amazing!! - Edit
My partner and I visited Chester for an early Valentines weekend so were determined to get some good food in. We come across Shrub on the Happy Cow app after us frantically looking for somewhere as we had called a few places to no avail. After going to Shrub, I was so glad the other places couldn’t fit us in.
Read moreEverything was absolutely spot on. Service was attentive and friendly. Food was beautiful (the artichokes were unbelievable) and the cocktails were the best I’ve ever had. I’m not really into cocktails as I usually find they sickly sweet, but they were so tasty!
The decor itself was lovely. It has a seating area outside covered with heaters and although we didn’t sit there, we can’t wait to come back in spring to overlook passer-by’s and enjoy some incredible food.
Do yourself a favour and go to Shrub - vegan or not, you won’t regret it!
Pros: Reasonably priced, Service, Cocktails

Fantastic meal - Edit
we went to Chester on a whim from Yorks to celebrate a job with our daughter who lives there . decided to eat and rang shrub who were full but squeezed us in warning it was busy and might be slow. we chanced it and were delighted we did. the food was fantastic. wide choice and interesting option on the menu. the 5 of us ordered a range of starters and mains and all were spot on. I love going somewhere with food that I wouldn't be bothered making myself or things I hadn't thought of but might try! will be investigating vegan koftas and roasted artichokes over the next few days.
Read moreadded to all of this we were even more pleased to realise the food was on a great veganuary deal with 2 courses £15 and £18 for 3 courses. sadly needed to head off home so missed pudding 😔 but was a great evening. place has a lovely atmosphere and benches are so comfy. #Veganuary
