Great vegan café - Edit
I love this spot, although haven't been for a while as it was closed for a lot of 2021 due to covid. They do a great range of both eat in and takeout options, I particularly love the sweet things they sell. My favourite option I have tried is brownie pancakes, with candied nuts and chocolate sauce.

Lovely Breakfast Spot - Edit
I’ve had a few wonderful breakfasts at this lovely cafe! The full English is nice and the coffee and baked goods are delicious. The space is also beautiful with art throughout, plenty of sunlight, and a nice outdoor area in back.

Very yummy vegan breakfast - Edit
One of the best vegan breakfasts I've ever had! The coffee was exceptional, staff extremely friendly and prices very reasonable. Will 100% be coming back soon - lots more vegan options I'd like to try!

Vegan brunch spot - Edit
A fantastic local vegan spot in the center of Heaton. Wide range of options on their fully vegan menu, including full English, pancakes, sandwiches, burgers and hot dogs. There is also a wide range of soft drinks and their own soft serve machine!
Read moreAfter visiting this place for years, I would say post covid, the food quality has slipped a little, with a reduced menu. Saying that, the full English is still fantastic (although I once got cold 'scrambled eggs'), the soups are always yummy (sometimes a bit lukewarm) and the Hail Seitan sandwich is a winner.
During the time they were open during lockdown, they had the most delicious sandwiches - kimchi chicken & New Yorker.
The staff are all absolutely lovely and there is such a nice vibe inside.
Pros: All vegan, Not too expensive, Friendly vibe
Cons: Food quality slipped, Less sandwich options

Soul kitchen - Edit
A must visit in my opinion. I've been many times sampling many dishes with my favourites being the vegan breakfast with some of the best tempeh rashers and seitan sausages I have ever eaten and the vast array of cakes on offer. The carrot cake, chocolate cake and vanilla chai cake are simply divine. The staff are always very friendly and a lot of effort has went into reopening after lockdown. I for one will continue to support them as much as I can and so should you.

Delicious vegan cake! - Edit
I’ve been here a couple of times now and have enjoyed both visits. The breakfast burrito was delicious but the highlight for me is the vegan cake. So far we have tried cheesecake and vanilla chai Victoria sponge. So tasty. The coffee is great too.

Vegan eats by the park! - Edit
Shoe Tree is a fantastic part of the Heaton Community. They provide the locality with gigs, art shows and social events, as well as serving excellent food!
Read moreOn my last visit I ordered the Big Vegan Breakfast with the Chocolate Milkshake. The breakfast comprised of vegan sausages which were nice and meaty and perfectly cooked, and tempeh bacon which was deliciously smoky and crisp. This was accompanied by your usually breakfast veggies of tomatoes, beans and mushrooms, as well as avocado and sourdough toast. I would’ve liked a potato element to the breakfast, homemade hash browns would’ve really topped the meal off, it would’ve also been nice to have had a bit more substantial replacement for egg, I love avocado, but a tofu scramble might have been a bit more filling. The milkshake was nice, and it’s great that the proceeds benefit an extremely worthy charity, I just prefer my milkshakes on the thicker side, so this was a tiny but disappointing.
The cafe is family friendly, and they have high chairs and a play area with a kitchen and toys, as well as a kids menu, so it’s the perfect place to bring the wee ones after playing in the park!
Pros: Family friendly , Great food, Fab location
Cons: Big breakfasts could’ve been a little bigger , Milkshake a bit on the thin side

Great service, great breakfast - Edit
We ordered 1 large and 1 “normal” vegan breakfast as well as a pancake stack. All excellent food. Really enjoyed my black tea kombucha as well. Food and drinks came quickly and the service was great. Lovely home made baked beans and portion sizes just right. Would have loved to see a “tempeh rasher and maple syrup” pancake stack on the menu, as I would definitely have ordered that! Nice atmosphere in the café.

We are shakin' the tree - Edit
Lovely place; friendly, welcoming, cosy and inviting. Plenty of vegan options too. As it was fast approaching the 12:30 breakfast cut off point I opted for the small vegan breakfast consisting of toast with vegan spread, home made sausage, tempeh rasher, spicy beans, a ramekin of roasted tomatoes and avocado. It was absolutely delicious, I should’ve gone for the large one though. A good strong cup of English tea with Oatly barista milk was a perfect accompaniment to my late breakfast. This is a place I will be returning to for sure. The wide selection of vegan cakes looked very impressive too at around £2.50 to £3 a slice.

So The Shoe Tree cafe just opened and we thought we'd try it out because it's great to have veggie places in the neighborhood. We'll definitely come again. The food was tasty and good value for money. The cafe was clean and pleasant and the food came quickly. The staff are friendly and helpful. Also, the cafe is near the park, so you can walk off all the cake afterwards ;-).
