An offshoot of its first location in Santa Cruz, this one opened Aug 2010. Vegetarian diner serving veggie burgers, fries, and shakes, many of which are vegan and others that could possibly be made vegan upon request. Funky decor with also a Space Lounge that hosts live shows, DJs, karaoke, and local artwork; available for private events. Confirmed closed, July 2019.

Yummy comfy food - Edit
I am definitely missing this place right now. Like I literally did have a breakdown when I learned that they closed this branch. Oh well 😔

Great veg diner food - Edit
Saturn is an old school veg diner, where you can get all of your classic diner food choices. Most things can be made vegan, if they are not already.
Read moreFood here is definitely fried central, so be prepared for a heavy meal.

If you NEED vegan food, this is okay - Edit
Prepare to wait 1000000000 hours to get seated, get service, really have anything happen. The food is good, maybe too pricey for the quality. But I never come here during the day due to the plethora of better vegan options near by. This place is great for late night vegan food. That’s it.

Pretty good - Edit
I ordered the peanut royale and my mom ordered the appetizer platter so we could share. The peanut royals seemed to be missing something: lime juice and red pepper flakes maybe? It was all right, but I don’t think I would order it again. The appetizer platter was good.

Really enjoyed two visits in 3 days - Edit
The tofu scramble with brunch is very good and will order again. The ‘everything’ burger is good, a little pricey. The vegan milkshake alone is worth a visit. We visited twice while in Oakland and were not disappointed. Staff was always friendly and helpful.

Good breakfast - Edit
I will admit that I’ve only eaten one thing here, because I like it so much — the Rosarita Scramble. A tofu scramble with fresh jalapeños and tomatoes, served with avocado and tortillas. However, my non-vegan friend had the French Toast and I had a bite and wow — so good! I can’t wait to go again so I can order that instead! Staff is always friendly—we came on Mother’s Day and they were serving free mimosas. They asked if I was a mom and I said does a pet mom count, and they said of course!

Okay sometimes I just want to eat diner food and have a burger or milkshake but without all the animal products. Well this is the place. Vegan junk food heaven

Just OK - Edit
Large vegan selection, but no earth shattering flavors. Some things disappoint a little e.g. Dry donuts and salty scramble. They could evolve their recipes. Usually plenty of seating and friendly staff.

SATURN is truly out of this world - Edit
We had already seen this cafe listed on Happy Cow and then the concierge of our hotel told us about this restaurant when we asked about vegan restaurants and he stated how great it was, and he is an omnivore. My spouse and I have been vegans since 1991 and 1990 respectively. This is a must if you are in Berkeley. We "travel for vegan food" and would definitely go back to the city just for this restaurant. The food is amazing. The Vegan French Toast is to die for, definitely the best one I have ever had. I also had a strawberry cupcake and although it looked unassuming, it was so yummy. We went two days in a row because the food was so tasty. The next day I had the breakfast burrito--another winner. Over the two days my husband had the pancakes, the coffee milkshake, the Diablo Burger. All were just spectacular. Wendy, the woman who served us was helpful, friendly, and warm--and her winning personality was part of why we loved it so much. Everyone there has a great attitude and so when you combine delectable food with great staff, it is "out of this world."

Great Diner, lots of vegan options! - Edit
This was my dream diner! We were seated at a booth with 50s hair accessories in the table which was incredible! I had wanted to try a root beer float so I had that with a coconut ice cream. I was still full so had a small serve of spring rolls and my partner had a burger. We both really enjoyed it and would have had cakes (they had vegan options) but as much as a tried, I couldn't eat 20 cakes a day!

Yummy - Edit
The menu has plenty of options for vegans. The french fries are delicious and filling. If you want a light lunch or dinner, the salads are a good alternative. Ask for Suji, she is an amazing waitress! And very attentive.

Fun place - Edit
This is a fun place that I like to go to when I'm home visiting. I can bring my non-vegan family there and everybody loves it. Personally, I would love it if they weren't so dairy heavy and had some healthier items on the menu, but it's a take on diner food.

Deliciious vegan comfort foods - Edit
Funky little place with diner décor. Lots of meat analogues, and veggie comfort foods. Lots of vegan options, but not very plant-forward. My peanut bowl (tofu, rice, veggies, peanut sauce) was quite delicious.

Saturn Puts Dairy Industry Ahead Of Vegans - Edit
Based on my order experience, disappointed. The veggie patty burger I ordered came with cow cheese. They offered vegan cheese, but for extra cost. I asked if they reduce price if no cheese. Saturn refused. I asked if they would substitute avacado for cheese. Saturn refused. Saturn taxes vegans to subsidize the dairy industry and that is infuriating.

Late Night Burger & Beer - Edit
Most veggie places in Berkeley close around 10pm, but a lot of UC night-classes don't get out until 9:30pm. Well, Saturn is open plenty late. They have perfect diner food and surprisingly good coffee. For me it's a no-brainer: get the diablo burger with vegan jack cheese and a PBR. Or a vegan shake with a side of the famous fries.
Read moreMinus 1 star for not being vegan despite having pamphlets near the exit explaining the tremendous animal abuse inflicted by companies that sell dairy/eggs.
Pros: open late, beer, friendly staff
Cons: not all vegan, shadow box tables can be unappetizing, food is delicious but can be pretty heavy

Great Diner Style Veg Fare - Edit
If you are not looking for health food, Saturn Cafe is a great place to visit. I had a vegan mint choc. chip that was super tasty, as well as vegan nachos.
Read moreI was disappointed when I ordered the Santa Fe salad with the vegan option (assuming this meant they simply used vegan cheese instead of dairy) only to find out upon getting my food that the faux chicken they use is not vegan and simply left out. This wasn't a big deal, but I felt it should have been explained and instead I was left with an underwhelming salad.
I still enjoyed my experience and would go back if visiting Berkeley.
My husband had the jalapeno burger which he seemed quite pleased with. The staff was also very accommodating to my friend's 2 year old by providing things such as a plain burger patty, and diced avocados upon request.
Pros: Tasty vegan junk food, Vegan shakes, Neat atmosphere
Cons: Bit pricey for diner food

Good burgers. Nice interior - Edit
I had the jalapeno burger and it was very good. That being said, there is basically only burgers and salads and about half are vegan or can be made vegan. The restaurant has a real diner feel and clean. Parking is an issue on weekends and evenings. The burgers are not inexpensive.
