Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:

It's a moral decision for me. I love animals and as such eating them makes no sense. And I cannot stomach the cruelty. I'm also an environmentalist and the amount of resources it takes to raise livestock and dairy is ridiculous. In other words, I'm trying to "walk the walk." Or, as my bag from Food Fight in Portland, OR says: "Vegan means I'm trying to suck less"!

I joined HappyCow Members Community because:

I travel a fair amount for work and I want to find out where the best vegan places are.

Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:

Sadly, I haven't traveled much internationally, but years ago I did take a solo trip to Thailand and Laos for two months. I loved Laos and would love to return. I just wish there weren't so many street animals, especially in Thailand. I want to go to Amsterdam partly because I hear they treat their animals so well!

Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:

I'm a big greens and grain fan, but I can't lie -- I also love some of the fake meats out there. Upton's Naturals is probably my favorite, along with Gardein products. I like to snack on roasted chickpeas.

My favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird, but I also love The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate, which I think is very similar.
