5 Stars - Edit
A lovely restaurant with a wonderful, absolutely delicious vegetarian lunch. The owner speaks some English, enough to communicate. It's still a very quiet place, we didn't have to wait and the price for the menu was absolutely ok. A perfect place to enjoy a vegetarian menu in a traditional setting.

Would give 5 stars if I could - Edit
Really good food and generally a lovely experience all round. I was alone when I went so the owner came up to me and we chatted a little, she even shared one of her recipes.

Great for tourists who want to try a traditional restaurant! The only downside I can think of is the lack of variety (only 1 obento is available). However, it was really tasty, and the owners who spoke little English were kind and willing to help! Definitely would visit again.

Yummy lunch set. - Edit
We had a delicious lunch set for a good price. The staff were super friendly and asked us questions about what we could and could not eat. Would definitely recommend if you want a more traditional lunch set. Also, it’s right across the street from Himeji castle.

Delicious traditional vegan menu - Edit
Wanderer, do not get discouraged by the apparently new menu outside that states that you can choose either meat or fish as a main for the set menu. I walked in and asked for a vegan option, which was no issue at all. The vegan main seems to vary with the season and the ingredients available.
Read moreFor me the vegan main was sort of a patty made of mashed veggies crowned with a lotus slice. The taste was very subtle, but as far as I understood the owner that is how she prefers to cook it. She by default then serves the menu with a tiny cup of soy sauce and high-quality salt so that customers can add these to their liking.
I did not need to add any soy sauce or salt to the vegetables, which were clearly the star of the menu. Their quality was outstanding. Each piece had a very full and round taste while the textures varied, giving it an additional diversity. The tofu, too, was much more to my liking than most of the tofu you get in Japan. It had a hint of umami flavour and was more chewy than silken. Yum!
Since the chiffon cake that regularly forms part of the set menu is not vegan, the owner offered to cut some fresh fruit for me instead. Those were really tasty, too.
Fully recommended.
Pros: Location, Traditional atmosphere
Cons: Menu outside discourages vegans

Highly recommend - Edit
This is a lovely place to get lunch right next to Himeji Castle. Both the veg and non veg crew had a great time experiencing a traditional Japanese lunch and the woman was very kind. Wish I could give it 5/5.

Really lovely local restaurant 5 minutes from Himeji Castle with delicious vegan or vegetarian options available. Would have given 5 stars but apparently that's only for fully vegan places.

Our favourite so far - Edit
Yes, our favourite meal so far in Japan. The lady recognised us for vegans immediately and she was so friendly. The vegan set was absolutely delicious and the complimentary barley tea was refreshing. The location is easily accessible from the castle and station. A lovely traditional setting.

Why can’t all greengrocers be like this? - Edit
I am so grateful that the Happy Cow App led us to this jewel just off the beaten track close to the castle. The friendly couple who run this unique place provide a very reasonable lunchtime menu and the lady understood our veggie requirements, a must.

Best place in Himeji! - Edit
Unfortunately I could not give 5 stars to this place but it was worthy of the maximum!
Read moreThe place is small but lovely. The hosts are very kind. The lady is the one that speaks English the most, she will give you a warm welcome asking you what you eat and what you don't. They are so used to veggie guests that it could be easily considered a veggie place.
Last but not least: the food is delicious, the cake is amazing and the price for the menu is only 1100¥
Pros: Quality of food, price, location, Super veggie friendly

Adorable little place, great food - Edit
This is a beautiful traditional Japanese place, half grocery store, half cafe. The male owner seemed to speak little English, but the woman spoke English very well and asked us right away if we were vegetarian or vegan. We were served a delicious vegan lunch set (with potentially the best tofu I've ever eaten) including a small dessert and hot drinks. Would highly recommend this.

A very friendly welcome from the lady who owned the place. There was no menu but she asked if I was vegan and then told me she would bring a vegan selection. Grilled tofu was the best I've had so far, grilled aubergine, yam and sweet potato and a salad and corn rice. Free cold tea too which was really refreshing. Definitely recommend, not far from Himeji Castle.

Very fresh and tasty vegan food. Had the lunch set which was a vegetable mixture with potatoes, pumpkin/yam (unsure on that one), corn, asparagus; served with salad, rice, and tea. The woman working here was so kind and knows exactly what vegan means. Lovely stop on the way up to the castle!

A must go. Period. - Edit
Simply delicious. Just had the vegan set meal and now chilling ate the traditional table (where you can sit normally or on your knees seiza style). The food is marvelous and varied: mine included lightly grilled tofu, aspargus, star shaped carrots, japanese pumpkin and 3 tasty onigiris. For dessert, some delicious apple slices. The ocha is served right after you sit, and although with no caffeine, its the best tea I had here until now. The owner lady is super cute, friendly and knowleageable about veganism/vegetarianism. Best food I ate so far (4 days in Japan), wish I could take this place to Brazil haha. ごちそうさまでした!
