Great vegan option close to Himeji Castle - Edit
Restaurant with a grocery store out front. The lady running the place greeted us and asked if we are vegetarian, to which we responded "we're vegan" and she sat us down immediately. Brought out a delicious meal with tofu steak, sweet potato, purple potatoes, peas and rice balls, and a small green salad with a viniagrette on it. It was a little difficult to spot but look for the green sign with a teacup on it. There was a bit of a delay before we got our dessert so we weren't sure if we were supposed to check out or wait - we eat kind of fast.
Pros: set vegan option, accommodating for allergies, fil

Delicious vegetarian set lunch - Edit
Set lunch option with tofu for ¥1050 - owner confirmed with us whether we were vegetarian or vegan. Absolutely delicious Japanese teishoku with grilled tofu steak, fried potatoes, sauted vegetables, salad, miso soup and pumpkin chiffon cake (contained eggs) to finish. Lovely lady who runs it!

Super healthy and traditional vegan tofu set meal - Edit
We were so pleased to find this place on Happy Cow before arriving in Himeji! Look out for the exterior sign “さくらさく”. This very traditional restaurant has a green grocer out front and serves various set lunches. Be sure to ask for ‘vegan’ otherwise your vegetarian tofu set will come with a cake made with egg. The lovely lady owner speaks English and can tell you about your meal.
My Vegan tofu set came with: rice and sweet potato, mini green salad, black beans, pumpkin, carrot, shiitake mushroom miso soup, and tea sliced apple for dessert. Very filling, traditional Japanese meal that will keep you full on the long train ride to your next destination.
Pros: Traditional Japanese set meal, Vegan option, Owner speaks English

Traditional Vegetarian Japanese - Edit
The lunch menu is a set where you can pick between fish, beef, or tofu, we of course went with the tofu. Our set came with rice, soup, pickles, veggies, lightly grilled tofu, and for dessert an orange and green tea. It was a nice filling vegetarian meal after walking around the castle and garden all morning, if you enjoy simple and traditional Japanese I would recommend. The owner was very sweet and welcoming as well, she spoke little English and was very helpful.
Pros: Friendly staff, Good portion, Good price
Cons: No variety
