Confortable and delicious - Edit
This place deserves 5 stars. The owner is really kind and the food was delicious. The bread is not vegan but if you want something sweet after lunch they offer to change it for some fruit with tea.

Lovely owners and vegan menu - Edit
Lovely older couple who know what veganism is, so they happily offer a vegan menu (and there are meat and fish options in case you're with non-veggie friends, but the menu is still 90% veggies). The food was extremely tasty and you get all the tea you want for free. The price was cheap and you can add coffee for 200 more yen (plus cake, but it's only vegetarian. You can probably get fruits though as dessert). The sake was also delicious. They were so nice to us and we were so comfy that I would like to give them 5 stars.

Sweetest little shop with sweet little owner - Edit
The shop and the owner were incredibly sweet. When welcoming us, she explained about the menu and asked whether we ate meat or were vegetarian or vegan. She was aware of the difference. We were brought a meal consisting of soup, rice, vegetables (pickled cucumber and carrot, potato, spinach) and a sweet and sour tasty tofu. It was delicious. For dessert we had tea or coffee and a cut up, very juicy apple. The woman was super nice, service was quick and this was all in all an amazing visit!

Very good - Edit
Mom and Pop shop. Very good meals, beautiful, traditional setting and extremely friendly owners who speak English and would come forward to ask if you're vegan or vegetarian. Strongly recommended, especially if you travel with omnivores.

Favourite place in Japan so far - Edit
I’ve been Japan for about 10 days now and this is my favourite food and service I’ve had so far. Such a cute traditional layout and really great service, the owner makes sure to chat to everyone and was happy to accommodate for vegans. When my food came she talked me through what each thing was. Definitely worth coming here.

One of the best Vegan meals had in Japan - Edit
Would give this place 5 stars if I could.
Read moreVery cosy/homely dining area. Set vegan menu. The lady who runs it is incredibly friendly and asked us to make ourselves at home.
She was aware that the dessert was not OK for vegans - so she gave us fresh cut fruit instead.
The set menu was delicious, well balanced and fresh.
Highly recommend this cosy, traditional restaurant. 10 days into our Japan trip and this is the best meal we've had so far!

Owner happy to help - Edit
The restaurant looks so unassuming, but the food is truly amazing! They have a set menu (meat, fish, vegetarian) with a vegan option available. The very lovely owner asked us what our exact dietary requirements were to accommodate us as much as possible. VERY helpful staff, and the food was tasty!

Great little spot - Edit
Would have given 5 stars if possible. The owner is proficient enough with English to understand if you are vegan or vegetarian and ask what you can and can not eat.
Read moreYou get a well presented meal, and with everything together, you get a great lunch. Everything is seasoned well or tastes good on its own. It's mostly vegetables and vegetable soup, so it is also healthy.
Also can't beat the prices. 1300 yen for everything and pretty cheap to get an extra drink. I have paid more for less.
Also, it is in a good location close to the castle and on the way to or from the station. Just one side street.
So if you make it to Himeji Castle, be sure to grab some lunch here. It's worth it
Pros: Great presentation , Great taste, Owners speak enough English

5 Stars - Edit
A lovely restaurant with a wonderful, absolutely delicious vegetarian lunch. The owner speaks some English, enough to communicate. It's still a very quiet place, we didn't have to wait and the price for the menu was absolutely ok. A perfect place to enjoy a vegetarian menu in a traditional setting.

Great for tourists who want to try a traditional restaurant! The only downside I can think of is the lack of variety (only 1 obento is available). However, it was really tasty, and the owners who spoke little English were kind and willing to help! Definitely would visit again.

Delicious traditional vegan menu - Edit
Wanderer, do not get discouraged by the apparently new menu outside that states that you can choose either meat or fish as a main for the set menu. I walked in and asked for a vegan option, which was no issue at all. The vegan main seems to vary with the season and the ingredients available.
Read moreFor me the vegan main was sort of a patty made of mashed veggies crowned with a lotus slice. The taste was very subtle, but as far as I understood the owner that is how she prefers to cook it. She by default then serves the menu with a tiny cup of soy sauce and high-quality salt so that customers can add these to their liking.
I did not need to add any soy sauce or salt to the vegetables, which were clearly the star of the menu. Their quality was outstanding. Each piece had a very full and round taste while the textures varied, giving it an additional diversity. The tofu, too, was much more to my liking than most of the tofu you get in Japan. It had a hint of umami flavour and was more chewy than silken. Yum!
Since the chiffon cake that regularly forms part of the set menu is not vegan, the owner offered to cut some fresh fruit for me instead. Those were really tasty, too.
Fully recommended.
Pros: Location, Traditional atmosphere
Cons: Menu outside discourages vegans

This is a lovely place to get lunch right next to Himeji Castle. Both the veg and non veg crew had a great time experiencing a traditional Japanese lunch and the woman was very kind. Wish I could give it 5/5.
