Had the vegan hot pot here and it was great. The hours of operation of the food is a little difficult, especially since I was coming from out of town (living in Chongqing at the time). Quite a few mock meats available, which was amazing. And vegan moon cakes!
The place from the outside doesn't look welcoming at all, often even looks closed.
We've been a few times, and it never was great. Some dishes are ok (like the green pea with sausage), and the rest is just "meh", some of it even way too oily.
The service there isn't great either. Their yogurt is great though, the only vegan yogurt I found in Chengdu so far.
I would say avoid if you can. Any Chinese restaurant is able to make a vegan dish for lower price and better flavor.
I live in Wenjiang, but nearly every time I visit downtown Chengdu, I come here for the curried potatoes and veggie jiaozi.
The entire menu is vegetarian and most items are vegan. They do serve yogurt, so it is not a vegan establishment, but you can definitely find vegan items. Don't be fooled by the meat names! The dishes are made from tofu and tempeh. Even if it says "chicken" or "fish" it isn't!!!
The atmosphere is nice for the area, a bit more refined than some of the other restaurants around Sichuan University, but small and intimate. The tables and chairs aren't the most comfortable, but they do the job. The round table in the window is the nicest and most comfortable in the restaurant. The biggest difference in this restaurant than others is that the mix of light tables and well-lit atmosphere mean there is little squinting or trouble seeing. Many restaurants in Chengdu are very dark. This one is not one of those! It's bright and cheery inside!
If you don't speak any Chinese, the menu has full color pictures so you can point to items you wish to order. The staff have very little English. The prices are comparable to other dish restaurants in the area and if you order at least one dish per person, it's unlikely you will leave hungry.
It should not be difficult find it:
once you are in front of Sichuan University south gate, don't enter but, turn right and walk about 200mt you will find the restaurant on your right. (https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=18/30.62777/104.08171)
Food quality and environment is good, price is about 15/30 rmb for dish (wifi available).
The menu is in Chinese but it has picture.
A bit hard to get to near the south entrance to Sichuan University near bus station for 35 and 335 next to the river and bus stop for #1003. This is a clean family style restaurant with air conditioner and western toilet with toilet paper. No smoking. Though the staff doesn't speak English they are very friendly and helpful. The menu is in characters with photos and pricing, mostly 10-30 RMB($1.60-$5) We chose the two different variety trays, 6 items, 18 RMB($3) each, one hot and one not...the waitress warned us. The trays were the same except the main dish with mixed brown and white rice, lightly cooked bean spouts,Bitter melon???, a pickled diced long beans and a seaweed soup with white radish and fake ham. I had the hot: a substitute pork with hot and green peppers which was very nice. My gringo non vegetarian partner had the mild, Pork Ribs??? with pineapple and he figures it is his favorite vegetarian dish ever and will order a full serving the next time he comes. We also had a mixed chopped veggies and ham dish with buns for stuffing, 28 RMB (
