Three clearly labelled vegan options on the menu, I went for the legumes, rice and vegetables. It was a decent portion, seasoned well and a great place to come with an omni who wanted to try espetada.

Superb Vegan food in a cosy pedestrian street - Edit
Friendly service and a good choice of Vegan options, absolutely delicious soup followed by stuffed peppers for one of us and avocado salad for the other. The stuffed peppers were an absolute triumph!! There isn’t much provision in Funchal - this is a ‘must visit’ for vegans and ‘ovolactovegetarians’ as the Portuguese would say.

Paulas Bistro ist in einer Seitenstraße mit wenig Tourismus , der Außensitz ist angenehm und man hat seine Ruhe , das Personal war sehr freundlich und kann Auskunft darüber geben welche Gerichte vegan zubereitet werden. Es gab insgesamt 5 Speisen auf der Karte die man sich vegan bestellen kann , ich habe mir die gefüllte Paprika bestellt und diese war echt lecker.

We ran into it unintentionally and saw a sign "also catering for vegetarians/vegans" and tried the Legumes with rice, which was a fantastic lunch meal. They very nice staff even made a vegan version of the typical madeiran bread (served with olive oil instead of butter). All in all very nice. Good place to go with omnivores!

Staff is amazing. I feel like they could do a bit better in terms of options. There’s no starter besides soup and the main choices are very poor. I had the vegetarian patty, that it’s actually vegan. It was ok.

The restaurant is located off the main routes, which is already a big plus. The terrace looks nice and inviting. The staff was very friendly and the food was great! And quite cheap actually.

We discovered Paula's Bistro our first night in Funchal. We arrived late on a Friday and everything appeared to be shut down. We followed the sound of clinking plates and found Paula's in an inviting pool of light. The tables set out on the old cobblestone road were full of people laughing and having a good time. Our waiter (who turned out to be Paula's son) was so friendly and helpful. The supplemental vegan and vegetarian menu was a pleasant surprise. We had the stuffed pepper and the pasta. Both were delicious. The complimentary glass of Madeira wine was a nice touch.

Best vegetarian choices in Funchal - Edit
There are very limited choices in Madeira for vegans / vegetarians, so to come across this restaurant with a list was a sight for sore eyes! I had the filo pastry parcel (brick of grilled vegetables as they list it) which was delicious and so nice to have something different to the usual omlette / pizza / pasta choice. Would definitely recommend to my fellow animal lovers

There are 4 vegan options on the menu, chickpea curry, stuffed pepper, layered veg and a burger, plus many vegetarian choices. The stuffed pepper came with chips and veg and was very filling. The owner is vegetarian and said she would buy some vegan cheese and keep it in the fridge in case I came back during the week, to add to a dish. This is definitely one of the best places I've been to eat in Madeira. The vegan food is fairly simple but it's tasty, filling and good value for money.
