Coronavirus update: we went to Crickhowell in late July 2020, and this place seems to have closed - a great pity, as other places were having problems opening, too. We had a nice meal at The Bear at the top of the High Street, but I can't for the life of me remember what I had.

An unexpected gem - Edit
A lovely cafe with a vegetarian menu, rich offering of vegan options and positively dog welcoming Our meals were outstanding, the best I have had in a long time. We had the vegan burger and a vegan cheese toastie panino, both amazing and very invitingly presented. Despite being already full, I could not resist the vegan pancakes which were scrumptious and beyond all expectations. I wish I could have finished them, but generous portions meant I flagged 3/4 of the way through and ,reluctantly, I had to give up stuffing them in. It is worth a detour and we shall return at the first opportunity. Do go!!

A quirky little place with a small but incredibly thoughtful menu. Great, personal service by the two owners who couldn’t help enough! Fits in well In small Crickhowell, I look forward to visiting when I come back.

We came here today for some lunch after a long walk. The place has a small menu of 5-6 options, which I think works nicely as they are all made to order by the two owners. We had a beetroot burger with potato salad and crisped salad leaves, followed by pancakes with salted caramel sauce (all vegan options) - delicious! Really personal service and the owners were lovely. Couldn’t recommend enough if you’re lucky to be nearby!

This is a lovely place with a simple but satisfying menu that is all vegetarian, with 6 or 7 vegan options. The food was very tasty and cooked fresh by people who obviously took pride in what they do. A great find.

Read moreWe stumbled upon the Bakehouse by chance and had a lovely time. All the dishes are freshly prepared and made to order, the decor is inviting and unique and the food was great.
Darryl and Michelle (owners) were lovely, took some time out to chat with us about the area and where we're from, it was a lucky find.
I would highly recommend the Odonnell's Bakehouse.

The beet burger was the best I’ve ever had and the donut was delicious. The staff were very welcoming and the presentation was excellent ! Will definitely be going again. Highly recommend.

this is a great place to call in for a bite. Menu is limited but everything there - that we've tried anyway- is delicious. As I understand things, they plan to expand the menu as time goes on. Extremely vegan friendly.

This place is a real gem. We came for the brownies, which were excellent, but the soup was probably the best soup I've ever eaten.
Read moreIt's a small, friendly place and you can speak to the chef directly, which is always nice and reassuring (I had a small panic at a blob of yogurt in my soup, but it was coconut!).

I think the drunken tomato soup (vegan, served with vegan soda bread and spread) was the best tomato-based soup I’ve ever had! And the vegan brownie was so good I bought another one to take away with me! It wasn’t like a traditional brownie but even better in my opinion: rich, moist and delicious. The proprietors are very friendly and they will shortly be expanding the range, including more vegan options.
