Limited menu, but tasty chilli

The vegan chilli and rice was tasty (although it wasn’t spicy😒) the chips were also lovely.

Pros: Tasty chilli

Cons: Only a couple of options on the menu

The best chips in mid-Wales

On a sunny summer day, there's nothing quite like eating and drinking in the Dragon's spacious back garden, with views of Pen Cerrig Calch and Crug Hywel. I usually go for the leek & laverbread burger, washed down by a pint or two of Felinfoel IPA. Oh, and they do the best chips in mid-Wales.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE:

The Dragon is now open again. We went in the last week of July 2020, when Welsh pubs and restaurants were only allowed to serve outside. To reduce human contact, the Dragon placed QR codes on all its tables, and you had to order and pay with your phone, after which you actually see a human face. The big problem with this approach is that you can't have anything that's not on the menu. For example, I had red bean chilli with rice: it's normal in Wales to say "instead of rice, can I have half and half?" 'Half and half' means half a portion of rice and half of chips, but there was no way of requesting that. Whoever invented QR codes needs to be force-fed chips until they burst.

Pros: Chips, Views of the Black Mountains

Cons: QR codes

Limited options

We ate here based on comments on Happy Cow about the good selection of vegan options. The menu has changed and there are now only two, one of which is a prawn curry that can be adapted for vegans; the other is chilli. We wanted to sit outside as it’s a lovely day, but they have a very different menu for outdoors which has absolutely no vegan options on so we ate inside. Food was nice but not as good as you’d hope for the price. Service was friendly and fast.

Freshly cooked, wonderful service!

Had a beautifully hot and fresh panang curry (vegan), and they had soya milk for a lovely soya latte. Lots of options for vegetarians and non-veggies, with a few vegan meals. But the meals are 👌👌👌

Accommodating.

Veggie & vegan options clearly stated on the menu. And the staff informed us about the fact that the chips were being fried in the same oil as the fish.
