A radical social centre run by volunteers with an vegan-veggie kitchen space that is used for a non-profit cafe. Located beneath News From Nowhere radical bookshop, you access through the door next to the bookshop entrance, ring the doorbell, and someone will come up to let you in. Typical menu consists of soup, veggie burger, 1 to 2 mains, and 1 to 2 desserts plus tea, coffee, and soft drinks. Minimal decor. Lots of animal rights posters and fliers as well other political material. There is a People's Kitchen evening meal at 6.30pm the 3rd Friday of the month and occasional food and film nights. Check its facebook page for updates. Reported closed August 2023.

A glimpse of a better society - Edit
Seen a few gigs here that were blinding. Food's always great and I've seen them give food to the homeless on Ropewalks Square. People talk to each other here. If you get a chance to go to the bookshop it's next to, News From Nowhere, there's a fair bit of vegan and revolutionary literature in there too.

Lovely spot - Edit
After years of living in Liverpool and meaning to visit this cafe, vegan friend, fiancé and I finally made it! We loved the basement setup, and the space is relaxed and calming. Volunteers all so friendly. We had delicious lentil stew and bolognese, and took scones away. Will definitely be back soon.

A great place to meet, eat, and socialise - Edit
I came to Liverpool for a night and needed to meet up with some people who like me didn't know the city. This looked to be about the best place to meet and it was - just wished I got there earlier and had more time to check out the space,connect with people, and peruse the books in the bookshop above. It was easy to find as just next to the bookshop - just buzz on the buzzer. I love places like this - volunteer run, big smiles upon arrival, tasty vegan food (special yum for the cakes), and payment based on donation. More places like this in the world please. If I go back to Liverpool I'll go back...

Vegan cafe - Edit
This cafe is only open on a Saturday and is very easy to walk past, it is only the small sign outside that lets you know it is there. When I went, I rang the doorbell and someone came and let us in, you are the taken downstairs into the basement. There is a living room type area with bookshelves full of various books which you are invited to read. There was also a dog there which we enjoyed playing with for a bit. The cafe bit itself is a bit shabby but in a good hippyish way, it is a volunteer led cafe so all the tables and chairs are mix matched. There are plenty of posters and leaflets around the walls concerning various issues such as animal rights, gay rights, socialism etc. the offer around 3 choices for meals and around 3 deserts. We just got a veggie burger with chips and salad, it was very nice and cheap, around £2-£3. We didn't get desert. It is very relaxed and they have a variety of activism magazines for people to enjoy. It is definitely worth a visit

I met one of the volunteers for this place who recommended that I rock along and try the Shepherd's Pie. I indeed did rock along but first of all was the soup. I plumped for the lentil and with the roll that came with it, it was hearty enough to be lunch enough for many.
Read moreThen I tried the Shepherd's Pie and it was all I was led it would be - my taste buds were having a good. The place is a political centre as is obvious by the copious amounts of pro vegan and animal rights material as well as the other political material that there is there.
It's the cheapest of the vegetarian eateries in Liverpool, the food was bargain priced (it is very budget friendly).
It is different from most places that you'll go to eat food. It doesn't pretend to be anything fancy and the menu isn't the widest choice. That's hardly surprising as the place is run by unpaid volunteers working hard with many projects such as movie presentation on the go in the place (see the website, it gives a better description than I can).
For access press the white doorbell and someone will rock upstairs to let you in.
100% vegan, a shame it's not open longer but of course the volunteers are given up their time for free.
It is located just down the street from exotic fruit and veg market on Bold St.
Pros: 100% vegan veggie food, Mega inexpensive, Central location
