Best vegan restaurant in Budapest - Edit
Simply the best "vegan" restaurant I've been in Budapest. They have really good "veganised" hungarian food, it was a delight. The staff was nice, they have a lot of choices. Desserts are pure heaven, the vegan cheeses are great.
Read moreIt's a little bit expensive compared to other Budapest restaurants but it's worth it. So good!
I haven't seen it myself cause the menu's pretty big but apparently they use honey. I hope it will change soon...
Pros: Best vegan food in Budapest, Friendly staff, Lots of choices
Cons: Honey IS NOT VEGAN, It means it's NOT a vegan restaurant, Please make your restaurant VEGAN.

Dear VincentGaliano,
Read morethank you for your comment.
We would like to respond in connection the honey, the Napfényes Étterem does NOT uses honey anymore. So we DO NOT offer honey to the drinks and NONE of the cakes contains honey. So the whole Napfényes Restaurant is HONEY FREE!
The misunderstanding was the fact that earlier we offered honey as well to the tea - so honey was available up on request in our restaurant. But not anymore.
Nowdays to tea we offer agave syrup or brown cane sugar.
So Napfényes Restaurant 100% VEGAN.
So come and visit us again and tell everyone about this great news!
We are looking forward to welcome all of you!

Pros: Gutes, schmackhaftes Essen, Viele Kuchen, Traditionelle ungarische Küche (vegan)

Takes way too long - Edit
Had a reservation for 7pm. It‘s 8:40 now and we‘re still waiting for food. Our glasses are empty for about an hour, we don‘t even get asked if we‘d might another. We see many waiters going buy with one plate or one glass in there hands, looking very busy. Wish i could say anything about the food..

Top restaurant in Budapest - Edit
This restaurant truly deserves is “top rated” status on happy cow as it’s exceptional. The restaurant is modern, comfortable and relaxed. The service is excellent and the food is superb and not expensive either. There’s traditional Hungarian dishes as well as international favourites and even some raw options. Everything we had including the home made smoothies were well executed. It’s must visit restaurant when staying in Budapest.

Hearty food and gorgeous pastries - Edit
Friendly place with a nice atmosphere and a broad selection of dishes on the menu. I tried the tofu and potato stew, which was very filling and delicious. They also offer a wide selection of pastries to eat there or for takeaway.

Slightly overhyped - Edit
I had high expectations because there were such amazing reviews but I was quite disappointed…
Read moreI had a stuffed cabbage and a hazelnut cake. The stuffing in the cabbage was quite flavorless and had a very mushy texture. Cabbage was on a huge bed of sauerkraut which was extremely sour (yes I get that’s but point but the sauerkraut-regular cabbage ration was way off). Hazelnut cake was dry…
Overall it was not bad but certainly only above average.

Interesting interior because it feels like it's still communist, not your typical vegan place! The portions are big and filling. The service was really lovely. The food was good 3 of us ate. 2 had the goulash which was great and we all had different mains. My 2 companions raved about their. I had the beetroot risotto which was good but not outstanding, maybe a little underseasoned. We each had a desert to take away from the bakery. Very good.

Lots of Hype but disappointing - Edit
I rarely leave negative reviews, but this visit was genuinely disappointing. We placed a large order to share — three dishes from the daily menu and two from the regular menu. The soup arrived quickly, but then we waited around 45 minutes for the remaining four plates.
Read moreWhen the food finally arrived, both the focaccia and the lasagna were cold, which suggested the dishes hadn’t been timed or coordinated properly. Unfortunately, no one acknowledged the delay or offered an apology.
Service at the end of the meal was equally frustrating. I was ready to pay and clearly waiting, having seen staff use portable card machines at other tables, but no one came over. After waiting for some time, I eventually paid on my way out.
This was easily the worst customer service experience I’ve had at a 100% vegan restaurant, which made it all the more disappointing.

Very nice atmosphere and a menu full of vegan options. Price are good as well, considering the food quantity. I recommend a kind of “fried cheese”.

Decent Food - Edit
My friend and I ordered the mezze starter and I ordered the tofu stew and she ordered the tempeh stew.
Read moreIt was 90% potatoes and maybe that is just what stews are like in Hungary but it wasn’t what I was expecting. The portions were massive too we could have easily shared the dish. It tasted nice but at the same time I didn’t taste of much at all.
Maybe I chose the wrong dish on the menu but I don’t think I would go back. The desserts looked amazing but I didn’t have one.

Good goulash and dessert. Bad main course - Edit
Service was great and their goulash very tasty aswell as their millefeuille. But the main course was expensive and just kind of bad. A wierd mix of all sorts of vegan proteins, cheeses, veggies and one sauce.

The meal was fine - Edit
I wasn't expecting too much given some other reviews but I was still a bit disappointed by the meal. We tried the carbonara, lemonade and the focaccia (this being the best of the three). The lemonade tasted quite watered down and the carbonara was really just fine in my opinion. The decor is a bit dated also. The staff were friendly and the cakes did look nice but didn't try them.
