Not even worth the visit at all! - Edit
The thaali was just fine. We were confused as to why 1 thaali is given between 2 people and the same amount was given to single customers. When enquiring, the elderly lady bought 2 plates and said it was a sharing thaali. We asked for additional chapatis to fill up a bit more, and was declined this request.
Read moreAs time went by, she said she will bring chapatis, but it'll take a long time as she needs to serve other customers. They came when I finished my food and when she brought 2 chapatis, she asked why I'm not eating and simply replied that I have finished; it took too long to come out- I was no longer hungry.
Upon seeing the chapatis completely dry, I requested if they could be buttered or spread with ghee, to which she replied "no we don't give, you shouldn't eat it, you get more fat".
Enough said.
She then left and returned, giving us dietary advice of not eating ghee and yoghurt.
Overall, not worth the fuss of other customers' reviews. But as customers of religious and dietary needs, this place aligned with our requirements. If I could award this 1 star, I would!
Pros: It meets dietary requirements
Cons: Staff, Portion size , Service time

Read moreWe arrived very late but she anyway agreed to cook for us.
We took the thali for 2 persons and is was really good and big enough! It was served with potato paratha, samosa, and another fried item.

Nice people, just okay food - Edit
This is a fairly central veg restaurant in Kandy. You can usually see an older woman standing out front who will lead you in if you approach. She's very friendly and chatty and will talk with you at length while you wait for the food. The rest of the family who runs the place also seems quite nice.
Read moreThe menu has a handful of options, and they understand vegan, which is nice. I ordered the thali. The food took a very long time to arrive. Some of it was cold. It included rice, a few curries, and some fried stuff, with a piece of coconut cake for dessert. It was good, but not really worth the rave reviews in my opinion, especially at the price.
It was quite dark in there and a few cockroaches were scuttling around, but nothing outrageous. It is very quiet; I was in there quite a while and did not see another customer, nor did I see anybody in there when I passed over the next few days. A big part of the reason for this is that they only serve foreigners, not locals. I asked why, but she didn't really give me a clear answer.
I'd say it's worth a visit if you're passing by, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Amazing Thali - Edit
The food was incredible and tasted like proper homecooked authentic Sri Lankan/Indian cuisine. The grandmother who owned it was incredibly lovely and warm and welcoming to us.

Okay, but not really worth it - Edit
We waited ages to get our order. We ordered 5 Samosas but got 3 - this would be acceptable, but not the further issues. We had to wait for one hour to get our main course and there was not that much traffic in the restaurant. Besides, the size of the portion was really small, but taste was good.
Read moreThe best thing comes now: We ordered a juice and a lassi, when we ordered our food and got the juice after our dinner - lassi was still missing. Well after we talked again to the staff we got finally the lassi, too. Both, the juice and the lassi were stretched with water.
After all the good reviews here, it was really disappointing to us and we can’t really recommend this restaurant.

Friend and I went here for dinner. Got the Indian Thali and it was a lot of food!! The food could have been a bit hotter at the time of serving but it was just us at the restaurant so I understand it was made fresh as there were so many different types!

Just average - Edit
I should have known better when I walked into the restaurant at lunchtime and only one table was occupied. Later on after lunch when I turned the corner I saw another vegetarian restaurant that was completely full. Lesson learned. Anyway after speaking to the lady that runs the place, I explained that I wanted something that wasn't spicy so she made some rice and 3 small things to go with it. The food was just average in my opinion. The mango lassi wasn't good at all and it wasn't even cold. It was also expensive at 250 rupees when I see them advertised all over town for just 100.

Vegan thali - Edit
Ordered the thali and asked for it to be made vegan, the two friendly women working in the kitchen and taking orders knew exactly what we meant and also offered to make any drinks with coconut milk.
Read moreThe thali was tasty, but most of the dishes were cold. The main pumpkin curry was warm and delicious.
We also tried to order a potato paratha, but were only served one piece each so had to order extra chapati to eat with the thali.

Really tasty - Edit
We tried the Indian thali to share with vegetable dosa on the owners recommendations! Not to be missed! Our personal highlight was the pumpkin bajhee - so much so we ordered more. The staff were friendly and spoke good English but the prices were reasonable and transparent (no made up tourist price at the till). Would definitely recommend.

Quite local experience. Owner is very welcoming and offered vegan alternatives including coconut milk in the lassi/shakes. I had the Indian Thali, which was quite big, and had a diverse range of dishes, along with a papadum, chapati, and sweet. Very enjoyable!

great food cooked by a friendly family - Edit
One of the best places I’ve eaten in my Sri Lankan travels so far! Well priced with a variety of different southern Indian food. They understand what vegan is and will even adapt foods and drink to suit your needs (such as a banana shake with coconut milk instead of cows milk which is damn delicious). The family is really friendly, take pride in their food and make you feel welcomed. They will answer any questions or queries you may have about the food

A very lovely Indian family who will take care of all your wishes. Special requests welcome!
Read moreThe mother makes sure you got everything you need and even brought us some tasty sweets between the meals.
They are Hare Krishnas and there is a wide selection of books to pick up, like the bagavata gita and the like.
After dinner we had a very nice discussion about the hindu belief system and what onions, garlic and chilli does to your doshas.
Then they called us their trusted tuk-tuk driver and we were on our way.
Highly recommended!
