Mr. White’s

Basically all the vegan items were unavailable on Saturday and not only was it (1) a wasted expensive taxi, (2) it was very embarrassing because I was dining with someone open to trying vegan meat who felt thrown off by this and (3) we were left to scramble to find a new place to eat with vegan options for me at 7:45PM on a Saturday, which is awful in this area. Moreover, the restaurant was super touristy and uncomfortable anyway. I wouldn’t return. They said Redefine hadn’t made their delivery in a few weeks but I call BS on Mr. White’s after reading the review before mine. This restaurant is just very unreliable…

They need to update their menu.

Our waitress was very polite and gracious. She truly was disheartened to tell me they no longer serve the Redefined steak or burger, explaining they no longer do business with the company who supplies it. I was disappointed to learn this - we finished our drinks and left to go elsewhere as there were no vegan options anymore.

Pros: None.

Cons: Menu is outdated.

Redefined Steak

There are two redefined steak options. Be aware though that only ONE of those options is vegan. One comes with balsamic (vegan), and the other comes with garlic butter (not vegan),

The redefined steak itself is very good. Is it worth £34.95? Absolutely not. It’s extortionate for the amount of food you receive. But, there will be someone at the door to entice you in as you pass. They’ll show you the set menu, which DOES NOT include the redefined steak. We requested to eat from that menu (two courses, plus a soft drink for £18), with a supplement of £10 for the redefined steak (it lists a £7 supplement for ‘other’ steak). He spoke with his supervisor and they allowed it.

There’s no vegan starter on that set menu, but there is sorbet for dessert. So, I paid £28 for a redefined steak and chips, with balsamic vinegar, three scoops of sorbet, and a glass of Diet Coke.

Three stars and not five? There are a few reasons for this: the lady at front-of-house is moody and quite unwelcoming. When I asked our server if they had a vegan starter, he said they could tweak the Caesar Salad, and when I asked how, he listed removing everything but the lettuce leaves. The wait times for each course are very long. When our mains arrived, we got just redefined steak and chips. They were missing the spinach, mushrooms and balsamic, and when we asked for them, staff seemed surprised that they’re part of the dish (despite being listed on the menu). We enquired as to whether the spinach was vegan since it says ‘buttered’. She checked with the kitchen and said it’s in oil. I’d ensure the person taking your order lets the kitchen know you’re vegan to make sure of this though.

Pros: Redefined steak (balsamic), Tweaking of set menu

Cons: They use dairy butter in a redefined steak dish, No vegan starters
