Great food and beautiful interiors

The cashew cream cheese and carrot "salmon" bagel would be enough reason to go there, but Mother is also a really beautiful place to hang out. Make sure you try the peanut curry as well!
There was a time around summer 2018 where the service was quite arrogant and most of the good food choices were sold out early and regularly (and it seemed like nobody cared to change stock levels), but I have been back a few times recently and these two issues have improved A LOT. Let's hope they can cope with the summer business just as well as they do now, because that place is such a gem! ❤️

Pros: High quality food - worth the money, Great atmosphere

Cons: Juices and smoothies are a bit pricey

Organic, healthy all vegan

Generally i reallyenjoy the food (although i have endured a very dry sausage roll once!) - it's tasty and energy boosting. I also really like the interior, its relaxing and a great space to work. The comitment to zero waste is admirable and really good to have this space available for healthy, organic, vegan and eco-friendly food. The customer service is bad though - it's operated by your stereotypical disinterested white hipsters who simply do not care. Quite often they will forget your order. Last time I went to get a smoothie they said i'd have to have it without a straw because they had ran out... This was after i'd already purchased it. The smoothie was impossible to drink without a straw so I used a wooden spoon haha.

Pros: Organic , All vegan, Zero waste

Cons: customer service, Food can be left out for ages and go dry

Service is atrocious as mentioned by others totally gentrified with no love.

Felt like a nuisance rather than a costumer, food literally got thrown at us without any acknowledgement, needless to say food was dry. Alas, at least all is organic. Can’t help but think my money would be useful elsewhere.

Pros: Great location, Clean

Cons: Expensive , Terrible service, Food too dry for my taste.

Lovely atmosphere

I had the waffle but it was pretty dry, they only had a gluten free version so guess that’s why. Otherwise it’s a lovely place

Pros: Completely vegan, Lovely staff

Fresh, healthy foods

Came here for an event so can’t speak to the normal menu and/or customer service. What I can say is that the interior is trendy but comfortable, the Sri Lankan jackfruit curry we were served was very tasty. They offer waste free dry goods (bring your own container) and the breakfast menu looked good. Location is off the beaten track - think I’ll come here again when I take my bike out for a weekend ride.

Pros: Stylish but comfy interior , Nice breakfast menu

Cons: Location

Big Mamma Burger-licious

So a Friday work lunch was brought to me by #ubereats courtesy of @mother.works and I had the Big Mamma Burger with Gluten Free bun (next time I'll get the normal bun because the GF bun was rock hard by the time I got it) it was a great experience though and working in Westfield where there are no lunch options available for vegans Mother gets my vote and the juice was expensive but very very nice and worth it!!

Pros: Great options

Cons: Expensive - I wanted to buy two burgers but settle

Great location but average

Cute canal side location, menu is ok but not particularly interesting. Food is healthy but very average. The smoothies are nice with a wide range but overpriced. The general vibe is kinda diminished by the passively obnoxious -too cool to be here serving you- staff. Would go again as it’s local and vegan, it has healthy options, but I go here expecting bad service.

Pros: Healthy options , Good smoothies

Cons: Service

Good Vibes

Very happy with service and food. The Big Mama Burger the star of the show but the non-BLT really good too. The choice of smoothies is very impressive and they are delicious. Reasonably priced, not a huge amount of choice but enough for us- a family of 3.

Pros: Location, Family friendly , Quick, efficient service

Abysmal customer "service"

I rarely write reviews unless they're fantastic and don't like to go against anyone trying to make a business work and offering vegan. I am very polite, positive and friendly. However I was shocked with how my partner and I were treated. We travelled 40 minutes by car to get here... After a long hard days work we fancied some healthy vegan grub and a treat. We've had a tough year and not been able to go out hardly ever due to cost, I've not been out for over 3 months. We dressed up to feel nice, even if for a cafe setting. We were both so very hungry. Faffed to find somewhere to park etc. We arrived in person 45-50 minutes before closing time. We got turned away as apparently a staff member had gone home early. It was dead!! Disgraceful and unaccommodating. Like that is a good enough excuse to not fix a sandwich or even salad? LAZY! We even said we were hungry and come all this way. He said sorry maybe 2 times in a very insincere way. Don't say sorry when you quite clearly can't be arsed to accommodate two hungry customers who went out of their way to visit your establishment especially. In a decade of living in London never in my life seen such a shocking and lazy display of dealing with new custom. Shameful and I won't be returning. It was also apparent they have greedy prices. Certainly gone up at least £2 for a few items, since the pics posted on here. Ruined what was supposed to be a much needed treat and we went home tired, hungry and grumpy. To not even offer take away is beyond sloppy and not somewhere I want to give my custom to. I'm a big believer of supporting businesses that are decent to customers and not just offer vegan food. I'm a business consultant so I see why many places fail in my line of work. It is my job to stop poor business minded people ruin their own businesses. Closing earlier and turning customers away is horrible for business, as well as showing you couldn't care less if they return. Strange! Hope the early time off is worth losing what would have been 2 loyal customers, who have now shared that with others. If happy cow allowed me to leave one star... I would, to show how dissatisfied we are. You ruined our much needed night for some quality of life. Yuck!

Terrible service & value for money

Really awful experience with the staff, food & owner. The mother bowl was basically lettuce leaves, rice and approx. 4 tacos (which the waiter/cook forgot to put in)for £8! On top of that, the staff had an unwelcoming demeanour, and took over half an hour to make the practically raw food! I then ordered a smoothie which I did not receive for over half an hour AGAIN despite bringing this up with the staff. At which point I had enough and requested the order be cancelled and a refund issued.

I emailed the co-owner and was shocked at the defensive and accusatory reply as to why the service was slow (he had pinpointed exact timings as if to catch me out). Finally he offered me to have a meal had I returned again (no chance!). I mentioned that I live very far from there (outside of London) and would not be visiting again because it's not my duty to go out of my way, I'd just like to have a refund for the mother bowl.

The owner had the cheek to again tell me to come back "if i'm in the area" knowing very well it's unlikely as I live far, and completely ignored my request for a refund.

I travelled all that way to have a meeting there with a business guest to experience the restaurant and was humiliated and disappointed by the whole experience.

The owner obviously doesn't take feedback well as I have seen other reviews with similar experiences to mine. You'd think staff members would either be better trained in customer service or replaced. Also the menu and Instagram photos are really deceiving. Be careful if they mention salad in your meal as it will be predominantly lettuce leaves hidden under!

PLEASE NOTE: I have not received the refund for either the mother bowl and the cookie dough smoothie that I didn't even have!

Pros: n/a, n/a, The weather

Cons: Extremely Slow Service, Rude Owner, Expensive, not reflective of the food.

I'll be back!

I had a most delicious bagel with cashew cream cheese and smoked carrot. Everything about it was just perfect. I also had an açail bowl which was nice but not too special, and a lovely iced latte with oat milk. I'll definitely be back to try the other options on the menu.

Pros: All vegan

Cons: Has down cushions on the sofa

Just what the area needs!

UPDATED: they have now switched to vegan granola and deserve 5 stars! We love this place!

Really excited that a vegan place has opened up in this area - perfect spot for breakfast, brunch and lunch with juices and raw vegan options too . We had the peanut butter smoothie and the raw caramel slices - both delicious! And everything really cheap and affordable too. Can't wait to go back.

Pros: all vegan , Gluten free, Raw vegan options

Strange

This was my first time at this nice place. The area around the canal is very inviting and there are deckchairs for free to enjoy. We visited this restaurant with my family, part of them are not vegan but others yes, and we all enjoy vegan food. The restaurant was not crowded however the line of people standing in front of the counter was increasing while we were waiting. There was only one person attending the food requests as there is no table service to ask for the food. The service is a bit slow. When we ordered the food the person took note of our food politely, however none of the waiters nor cooks we could see smile. I do not ask for a restaurant staff to laugh all the time but sometimes a simle makes you feel better and increase the joy of spending a while on a restaurant. In addition, something that this restaurant should improve is their system to replace tissues and glasses for tap water, there were only a few napkins left and we were not offered any more.
I must admit that the food is delocious and the juices taste as glory. I would like to come back and enjoy myself and my family a little bit more :)

Pros: Nice location

Cons: The unfriendly staff

Tasty healthy food

I've been here maybe 7-8 times now... I was little disappointed last time I went (about 3) weeks ago as they seem to have shrunk the salad serving sizes! The food is REALLY good, it's a nice setting next to the canal so we cycle there from Walthamstow, they play decent music (not generic chart music that makes me wish I was deaf). I always get a salad as they make really nice interesting salads with lots of beans. Exactly my type of food! I'm not sure why last time I went there the salad was served in a tiny round bowl? All the times I've been there prior to this I have ended up with a LARGE salad. PLEASE PLEASE start serving the big salads you were serving before! Also, the coffee is VERY good, they know how to make a proper flat white without it being scolding hot like a lot of other UK cafes. Also the juices are really delicious. I would say that this is one of my favourite cafes in London but PLEASE sort out the serving size for those salads and I'll continue to come out of my way for weekend breakfasts/lunch. I ended up having to buy something else to eat after leaving your cafe last time as my meal was SO SMALL so I left hungry! :( I am only giving 4 stars because of this!

Pros: Healthy vegan food, Good coffee, Next to the canal

Cons: Small serving size

Hello Rach. Thank you for your kind words regarding the food, the music and the coffee. Thank you also for sharing about your salad experience, which we were sorry to hear you were disappointed.
We had the salads off the menu for a little bit - and then brought them back on as buddha bowls which were smaller but also had a lower price. They do vary from day to day based on our fresh ingredients - maybe for some reason you got a small portion. Obviously this shouldn't have happened. Hope you will come back soon and give us another chance.

Relaxing space, generous portions and friendly staff

For an independent venue in such a high profile space, their prices really are good for the potions and quality of ingredients.

They had a rush on when we got there and ran out of peanut curry (boo!) but quickly whipped up a DELICIOUS jackfruit curry that in a large portion, filled us up well! The rice was fantastic too - not cheap and starchy!

The coconut blt was the first time we'd tried coco bacon so was a great adventures. Our 2yo loved it too 😍 and it was great to try something different.

Would recommend!

Pros: smoothies, organic, variety

Cons: children's portions not offered

Secluded riverside gem

We found this gem of a cafe while walking along the river Lea towards the Olympic park. Nestling under one of the buildings is a really welcoming juice bar serving organic vegan food. The mixed salad box is varied, really tasty and completely different both times we've eaten there. Vegan cakes, power balls and great coffee complete a delicious meal. The owner is friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is relaxed. Definitely one that we will keep going back to.

Pros: Beautiful location, Healthy delicious food freshly prepared, Reasonable prices

Cons: Off the beaten track (an advantage really), Not open in the evening

Beautiful canal side spot

MOTHER's cold pressed organic juice will blow your mind! Their Twisted Orange and beetroot juice are my absolute faves. The avocado on E5 Bakehouse sourdough is just delicious. These guys don't scrimp on quality, which makes every bite that bit tastier. Thanks MOTHER for your beautiful cafe. I'll be back, for sure.

Pros: Location, Excellent food, Great value

Cons: Could be more nut free options

Really cool vegan cafe in really cool location

A Hot Cacao is my go to when out and about and this place nailed it, the peanut curry is pretty darn good too. Delicious green juice which seems to be their speciality and awesome that they sell it in litres, as I love a juice cleanse. Caramel slice is sexual. I loved the relaxed vibe, its a great place to pop to for clean, fresh and delicious offerings and I've been back a few times since I discovered. Thank you MOTHER.

Pros: Juice in litres, Lots of alternative Mylks, Organic produce

Cons: No delivery yet, Closed in evenings
