Another One Bites the Dust! - Edit
I had been planning on writing a review of this restaurant for several years. Their menu was reduced during the lockdown, so I delayed writing a review until it recovered. I liked the new menu (except for their switch to Impossible products for most of their sandwiches) - and intended to write a review about their updated menu (the Mushroom Dip sandwich was great).
Read moreI was also going to point out that with the demise of VeganGreenGo (which was the vegan restaurant with the best quantity for your dollar in SB), Modern Times was tied with Fala Bar as the most affordable option in Santa Barbara.
Unfortunately, Modern Times's Santa Barbara location is no longer - the have closed this location. Apparently all of their other locations, except San Diego and Anaheim, have also closed.

Pros: Price, and Great Mushroom sandwich.
Cons: Impossible Foods - but, most importantly - they're, not here anymore!

Great vegan comfort food! Come even if you don’t drink! - Edit
Even though this restaurant is called modern times beer it’s not just beer, it’s a fully plant based restaurant!
Read moreThe food they offer is mainly comfort food like chorizo fries, burgers and burritos. It’s very filling and delicious. If you are over 21 and want to drink they give you a bracelet. You order at the counter and pick up from the pick up window. The ambience is wonderful. I highly recommend this restaurant for vegan travelers. It’s somewhat hidden - you have to walk through a restaurant to get to the back of a the building where this this restaurant is located.
Even if you don’t drink you should come for the food!
Pros: Many vegan options , Great atmosphere

Best vegan spot in Santa Barbara - Edit
Wonderful food, I had the Korean fried chicken sandwich, and Asada Fires. The beer is unfortunately sub par.

Fully vegan bar with great food - Edit
A friend and I both got the Korean style chicken sandwich with fries. It was cooked so well - friend and crunchy. The sauce was good and the slaw went well with it - just spicy enough. The cashew based cheesecake was pretty good - a bit runny but no complaints.

Update: Kitchen is OPEN! I was soo stoked when this location opened in SB a couple years ago, and I still get excited every time we go there! Everything on the menu is just incredible and 100% vegan. They have non-alcoholic beverages that are super tasty as well. If not drinking alcohol, I recommend the Grapefruit seltzer, which I think is called bubble party light.
Read moreIf they could improve on anything, I'd say adding a few good gluten free entrees.

The best place to grab a drink and snack - Edit
Vegan junk food done perfectly. The loaded fries are the best I've ever had, vegan or not. The burger is great too. I take my non vegan friends here for happy hour all the time. They even started serving brunch recently!

Food done well - Edit
We ordered the Asada fries, Russian Wedgie Salad and Paul’s Reuben, then topped it off with the ultra cupcake. All of the dishes were delicious, service was friendly. They were respectful of Covid rules which is appreciated. Dogs were welcome and of course, good beer. Definitely will go back.

Bar food for vegans - Edit
When you want to grab a beer and binge on bar food, look no further. Love this location and the Los Angeles one as well. Later food hours than most in the area, a couple gluten free options but mostly just vegan bar food heaven.

Ridiculous Alcohol Policy - Edit
Make sure to have your passport with you when you order a beer from this place. Me (30) and my girlfriend (27) were denied to order and drink a beer for not having a passport on us. A dutch drivers license which clearly shows the date of birth was not sufficient.

Wow Amazing Place - Edit
This restaurant is definitely an experience. The decor, ambiance and staff were all amazing. The food was some of the best we've ever had and it wasn't terribly expensive either. We love that this place is employee owned.
Read moreWe tried to call in an order for pick up but they advised they only accept take out orders if you order after you've arrived.
$9.00 Croquettes: So delicious. They aren't crunchy like other croquettes but come with this amazing smokey dipping sauce. Definitely worth a try. They were a bit expensive for 4 but also quite filling since they are potatoes.
$13.00 Chorizo Burrito 🌯 with Verde Sauce: without Verde sauce it's $11.00. An amazing burrito. My partner said it was his favorite burrito anywhere and he has had pretty much every burrito. High praise. I found the burrito to have a lot of great flavor, especially with the sauces, however the spice built after every bite and I found it got too spicy for me.
We love the ambiance and that everything is vegan here.
Finding the Restaurant: Once you find the sign for the restaurant while on the sidewalk, you will need to walk through another restaurant Cubaneo, in order to get to Modern Times.
Restrooms: sadly the restrooms were gendered. There were about 4 stalls in the women's restroom and 1 stall in the men's. They were quite clean, but smelled like old alcohol. It was close to when the restaurants opened.
Parking: We found street parking 🅿 and walked about 5min. It was free street parking. There were two lots that were paid parking very near to the restaurant. It was a Sunday around lunch so it wasn't too busy.
Pros: Amazing food, Great decor, great ambiance, Employee owned
Cons: Gendered restrooms, Walk through Cubeano to reach the restaurant

So much yes. The double Beyond burger is out of this world. So decadent and absolutely delicious. I also tried the cold noodles and chili fries, and they were both amazing. Paired with a delicious citrusy IPA, and I was in vegan gluttony heaven! The place has a really cool vibe and nice outdoor seating. Highly recommend! My only regret was not trying the cheesecake.
