okay, nice place but food lackluster. - Edit

Lovely venue, atmosphere is good. Place was busy, our starters of the taster plate and tofu and seaweed were okay but not amazing The seitan in mole sauce was very well done, however the tagine was truly dreadful. It's strange the standard between meals is so varied. On balance, there are better menus around.

Pros: lovely place and staff

Cons: menu requires a rethink and should only cook what

Vegan food experience... - Edit

Great atmosphere, really attentive and cool host, great decor and crockery. A menu with a difference creating high end vegan food. Got free birthday cake and coffee liqueur. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for the experience and beautiful fresh, healthy menu with a twist. Hasta pronto!

Good vegan food and good service - Edit

My friend and I arrived here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We didn't have a reservation, but the restaurant was almost empty and they were able to seat us.

We ordered some wine which was served with a small sweet potato mash tapa - it was delicious.

We ordered some croquettes to start. There were six (two different types), spinach and blue cheese and potato and black garlic, served with a mustard sauce. I preferred the potato and black garlic ones. The blue cheese ones tasted a little funny to me, probably because I generally don't like vegan cheeses. We really liked the mustard sauce.

My friend ordered the burger and I had the tacos. I enjoyed the tacos immensely and the quantity was satisfying, but I still wished for a little bit more. The burger was okay. Definitely a bigger portion than the tacos, but maybe not as tasty.

We ordered a berry cheesecake for dessert to share. I liked the berry sauce but not the cheesecake. It tasted a little too artificial for me, however, my friend really liked it.

Overall, we had a pleasant experience at La Encomienda. The food was good, service was excellent, and I personally enjoy supporting vegan establishments. I have yet to return here. Mostly because I do not live or work in the area, but also a little bit because the food is not especially spectacular.

I can recommend this place to vegans - especially raw vegans because there are lots of raw options. But, unfortunately, I don't think an omnivore would particularly enjoy the food here.

Pros: Lots of raw options, Good service, seasonal menu items

Cons: Small portions

Not Exceptional - Edit

I stopped in for their menu del dia, and was quite disappointed. I found every course to be quite bland, and the wait staff was not friendly. There are so many good vegan restaurants in Madrid, I don't anticipate returning to this one.

Pros: All-vegan

Cons: Bland food, Unfriendly staff

Hummus on Toast - Edit

I only stopped here for a quick snack , and decided to try their Hummus on Toast. It was very pleasant & the garnish of olives very good indeed. I would have liked to have tried more things but I couldn't fit any more in! Friendly waitress.

Very disappointing. On all levels. - Edit

We spent a week in Madrid. Both my girl and I, are vegan. Thus, we were looking forward to checking out every vegan place we could in town. This was the first vegan restaurant we visited during our trip and... wow, was it disappointing. To start with, many of the pictures you see here on Happy Cow are not from this restaurant (or, they were- some time ago). I pointed to/asked about a few of the more appetizing images, and the waiter mentioned something about 'before' (my Spanish is very poor). I think, this was a different restaurant/owner before, and most images are from that time. The menu here, offers what promises to be great food. But, when it comes out... it's very cheaply done fast/junk food. We had the mushroom platter- it was just breaded mushrooms, deep fried, with fast food style vegetable oil (tasted like truck stop food - bland and, just what you'd expect from taking mushroom, breading them, and tossing them in a fryer). We tried a sandwich- it felt like a microwaved sandwich you pick up at a 7-11 (plain toast, oiled up (we requested no oil on it, but- it came soaked in oil anyway) with a few slices of lettuce and tomato). We also tried the potatoes- I don't recall the exact name on the menu, but they sounded quite tasty. What we received was the equivalent of one potato, thinly sliced, organized in an oval shape around the edges of a plate (to make the portion look bigger), with a dish of some sort of gravy in the middle.

Anyway, I genuinely dislike leaving a poor review for any vegan place. I feel like, we need to stick together, and support each other. However, this place... just failed on every level. The decor, the food, the misleading photos. I'm sure others have had a good experience here, however- if you like your food not only vegan, but also- 'healthy', and presented with some modicum of finesse, this isn't the place for you..

Pros: They have electricty?

Delicious and Interesting. - Edit

Loved my meal here. I had a wonderful Tom Kai soup of which the only drawback was a bit too much oil but that could be a personal preference. Wine was well priced and they had a fully vegan sulfite free tempranillo. Staff were awesome. Would definitely return.

Pros: Cheesecake was delicious!

Cons: Soup was a bit small and oily for my preference (b

This place impressed me - Edit

I was there for lunch on a wednesday and the place was fully booked, so I decided to wait for a table. When got it we ordered menu del dia, 8 euros for one main dish, and 12 for two. Big amount of food, and very tasty. Every single thing was carefully selected, homemade bread, water with a touch of seaweed. The menu changes everyday. I'd give it 6 stars if it was possible. This is the place to try menu del dia, something great in Spain and in a vegan way.Keep rocking Las Encomienda. See you soon

Comida riiica - Edit

Hemos estado varias veces cenando aqui.

Among my favorites in Madrid - Edit

This restaurant is among the best vegan places in Madrid. I've been there twice for dinner with a group of friends and we all are fond of it. The food is really tasty (the stuffed mushrooms are divine), with plenty of choice. You are served relatively quickly and the staff is super friendly. You are ensured to spend a great evening here. Prices are fair considering the quality of the food and the place as nice vibes. I will definitely go back again and again.

Pros: tasty and original food, super friendly staff, nice vibes, fair prices

Delicious Food - Edit

Excellent food but a bit pricey. We ordered the vegan tacos, which were really good, they came with 4 tacos for €10. We also got the Yucatan salad which was also very tastey, for about €8. Both had an avocado lime sauce that was amazing. We got the peach crumble for dessert and it was just ok for €5. Staff was very nice and friendly and the restaurant has a cool atmosphere.

Lovely restaurant! - Edit

Just be aware that the actual dinner menu doesn't start until 8:30pm - if you come before that, you'll get the smaller evening menu which is salads, share plates & desserts. The staff were great here, as was the food. I had a tacos plate for my main and the dessert of the day, which was a cake.

Yummy and cool! - Edit

My vegetarian friend and I visited on a Monday night. We had bread with a white soup which was really nice but we weren't sure what was in it. It was very creamy though! We also had the trio of dips with courgette and peppers. These were nice. Then we had the peach cake, which was nice too! Overall, would visit again as it was yummy and fun to try new things :)

Pros: Creative, nice staff, tasty
