A bit disappointing - Edit
We were thrilled to see the vegan burger in such a small city and went into the restaurant. Unfortunately, we got told they change the menu seasonally and don't have vegan options for dinner anymore.
Read moreNonetheless, they created us a very tasty, although pretty small, but expensive beetroot salad and we got french fries after as a main "dish".
Two stars for the staff being friendly and trying their best as well as the salad being very tasty, otherwise it was pretty disappointing tho.
Pros: Tasty beetroot salad, Friendly staff
Cons: No vegan dishes without adjustments, Very expensive

Good vegan options, mixed experience - Edit
Finding the place was a bit confusing : the name Kongshallen appears nowhere outside or inside the restaurant. In Google Maps it looks like there are two separate places, one named "Gudvangen à la carte restaurant" and the other "Buffet restaurant and cafeteria". It's actually the same place, named "Gudvangen fjordtell".

Mixed experience for me though :
- you have to cope with them selling reindeer and whale meat at the counter
- the place is big but most tables inside were booked, I guess because of the large groups of tourists coming from the boats
- so I sat outside, which was not a problem in itself even if wet, but then you have the fumes of the boats nearby and hordes of tourists passing by.

Vegan options in the Fjords - Edit
I was surprised to find a vegan dish in such a small village. The bigger surprise was that they have a clearly labeled menu with two vegan options: one with plant-based beef and another with plant-based chicken. The taste was tolerable.

Only option, but a good one! - Edit
This cozy spot has a few vegan options and is the only place in Gudvangen with anything vegan so it’s the go to choice. I got the chickn sandwich and would gladly do so again. They also had nuggets and another burger.
Read morePros: The chickn sandwich beat expectations, Only spot in town, so very nice to have
Cons: Only spot in town, so no choice

Eventually got a very nice meal - Edit
Me and my boyfriend were visiting Gudvangen and vegan options around the area had been very limited in general, so we were pleasantly surprised to see a "vegan menu" board in the restaurant area, which is a cafeteria type thing during the day with sandwiches, cakes, etc (which I don't think any of were vegan). We thought we could come back for dinner.
Read moreAs the place changes from a cafeteria to a restaurant at evening, and the menu for the restaurant online didn't have vegan options on it, we thought we should check if you can order from the vegan menu in the evening still. We asked and we were told that there were vegetarian options on the evening menu which are much nicer such as a risotto and two pizzas. My boyfriend believed that these options would be vegan but I thought the man may have not been aware of the differences between vegetarian and vegan but thought maybe we could get the pizza with no cheese.
Upon returning in the evening, my worries were confirmed as all the vegetarian options contained dairy. Actually, I think every dish on the menu contained dairy, vegetarian or not. The allergens being labelled was helpful though. We thought we could double check if the menu we saw earlier could still be served, and if not ask for a pizza without cheese.
When trying to order, the waiter told us we couldn't order off the vegan menu we saw earlier after 6pm, so we asked about the pizza. He checked with the chef for us but came back and said it might be easier to get a chicken burger from the vegan menu after all. We ordered one of these each.
The food came and was really delicious! The burger came with pickled red onions, a nice sweet tomato jam, pickles, lettuce, and tomato. The bun was toasted and good quality, and the vegan chicken was very tasty. It also came with chips. It was a very nice meal, just took a bit of communication to get there.
I'm not 100% sure if the burger would come out the same way if you ordered it during the day as I think there is a different chef, but it may be easier to eat before the restaurant changes menu.
Overall a nice meal but just a bit stressful to get some food in the evening
Pros: Allergens labelled on the menu clearly
Cons: No vegan options on the menu after 6pm, Staff not familiar with veganism really
