Vegan Portuguese food in the centre of Lisbon - Edit
This award winning vegan restaurant lives up to the hype. There is a good variety on the menu. All of the food was full of flavour. Great service and a lovely venue too.

SHRINKFLATION WARNING - Edit
🚨⚠️ SHRINKFLATION WARNING!! 🚨⚠️
Read moreThis place is engaging in the practice of both INCREASING PRICE, while REDUCING PORTIONS. Look at the photo and the URLs to compare! Price per piece used to be 1.63€ with the large croquettes, and is now 1.96€ for the tiny ones.
A couple years ago the croquettes were 4.90€. Now they are 5.90€ and noticeably smaller. I used to visit this place quite frequently in the past, even at the old location, but I don't live in Portugal anymore. I was absolutely surprised when I went recently and ordered the croquettes - they were MORE EXPENSIVE and SO MUCH SMALLER. I asked the waitress about it, and I was assured the price had decreased accordingly, which WOULD be fair.
However, when I looked at the reviews and saw the former menu price (HAD lower price and WERE bigger portions) I was shocked. I told the waitress that I was disappointed by the lie and the change and she turned her back on me without a word. I was flabbergasted - not only is this place engaging in shrinkflation, but the lie and rudeness if asked about it was the cherry on top.
This unfriendly practice made me visit this place for the last time - used to visit a lot but they don’t deserve it anymore.

Dear Guilherme,
Read moreWe would like to thank you for your feedback. It led us to speak with the team to reinforce our values: our guests’ experience is our main focus, and our goal is that everyone who visits us leaves the restaurant happier than when they arrived.
We understand your frustration and apologize for not having handled the situation in the best possible way, nor for having offered a solution at the time of the incident, as is our usual standard.
Our portion sizes and prices are reviewed and adjusted periodically, with several objectives in mind: minimizing waste; ensuring that a complete meal (starter, main course, and dessert) is enough to satisfy someone with a good appetite; offering competitive prices (usually lower) compared to the competition; and maintaining a sustainable business.
If we notice that a dish receives unanimously positive feedback but people consistently leave part of it uneaten (which then goes to waste), we adjust the portion size downward. Likewise, if we receive repeated feedback that a portion is too small, we adjust it upward.
In the specific case of the croquettes, one of the following scenarios was frequent: 1) guests who ordered the croquettes did not eat the full portion in order to keep their appetite for the rest of the meal; 2) guests ate the full portion but were then unable to finish the main course and were too full to try a dessert. For this reason, we decided to reduce the portion size. In other cases, such as the soup, the petit gâteau, the cheesecake, and all scoops of ice cream, the portion size were recently increased, using the same criteria.

A vegan fine dining experience - Edit
Excellent service from the get-go - this place is run with high expectations from their staff to deliver excellent service and food - and at such an affordable price! The menu is incredibly inventive, food served is of such a high quality. We had the cheeseboard to start and WOW we have never tasted vegan cheese like it! Charlie had the seitan ribs for main which were full of flavour and the perfect texture / Chelsey had the seitan steak and egg (egg was another WOW moment!). Dessert was a top favourite for Chelsey who had the pistachio gateau - and we’ll be dreaming of that for years to come!! A MUST-VISIT for vegans in Lisbon (one of the reasons we booked our trip!!)

Amazing! - Edit
The food was absolutely delicious! For starters, I had the vegan croquettes. For the main dish, I had the “ribs” (made from seitan) which were covered with red wine sauce and over mashed potatoes. It was SO good! Though I was full, I willed myself to try their dessert and I’m so glad I did. I had the petit gateau (made with pistachios) and, like the other two dishes, it was absolutely amazing.

Propuestas originales - Edit

Unusual dining experience - Edit
Kong is rated highly here on Happy Cow. My experience was not great.
Read moreEstablishment is King Kong themed, which I don't get since they serve traditional Portuguese dishes made vegan including seafood-inspired fare. Lots of seating, though in a weird, u-shaped layout with the kitchen exposed in the middle.
Ordered the Vieras for an appetizer which was a solid 11/10. Absolutely amazing mouth feel, savoriness and sweetness. Then the disappointments came in waves. Next was the Salmao and Entrecosto. The Salmao came with a weird blue sauce that was rather bland. The tofu "salmon" was pretty muched fueled by seaweed and salt to give it that sea flavor. The texture was a bit tough and dry. The potatoes gratin were also a bit bland. The Entrecosto also felt a bit bland, though the mashed potato portion was good.
Overall I didn't care for the food and service was slow. The never brought the check and I had to chase someone down to pay.

The Portuguese “cod” bake here was insanely delicious. It was like nothing else I’d had either. Vegans usually don’t get to try local food, but I’m so glad I got to try this!

Creative and Delicious Portuguese Vegan Food - Edit
As a top rated vegan restaurant in Lisbon, Kong was on our list for a while leading up to our visit but when a helpful waiter at another Lisbon vegan restaurant told us we had to go and how incredible the food was there, we knew it would be a special experience. We chose the croquettes and pica pau as starters and the ribs and francesinha sandwich. All dishes were incredible, as was the service and chef even made it to each table to ask guests how they were enjoying the food and answer questions. Truly a great dining experience. Only regret is we didn’t get an opportunity to go back a second time before leaving.

Improved since the beginning - Edit
Kong had highly improved since the last time I had visited. The seasoning is still quite strong which makes the dishes intense as they’re trying to make it close to ‘real’ meat or fish dishes which isn’t what I’m always looking for.

Must visit! - Edit
Had an amazing experience here. The vibe was lovely and the food was absolutely amazing. You must try the cheese platter, it is very very good. The croquettes were really good and the empadas one of the best we ever had (and my company is very picky on good empanadas so believe me)
Read moreFor mains we tried the ribs and octopus (feels weird writing those words) but they were really good. Amazing flavors, even the nonvegans agreed on its extraordinary good food. Then came dessert, we all ordered something different to try from each other. I say the chocolate nutella cake MUST! BE! ORDERED! I dont care if you’re full, you must try it. The pistacio gateau was really really good as well. The pineapple carpaccio was surprisingly good and the berry cheesecake was really nice as well. So, yeah. If you’re in the neighborhood, treat yourself.

The food, unfortunately, looked better than it tasted. - Edit
We had two starters and two main courses. Unfortunately, the fried dishes were soaked with deep-frying oil, which dominated the flavor. The main course with the oven-roasted "rips" was very tasty

Can’t wait to come back again - Edit
Truly exceptional! Service was amazing, with all of the staff very friendly and polite. Everything on the menu looked appealing and it was tough to choose. I eventually opted for the croquettes to start which were very tasty and full of flavour. For main I chose the Polvo à Lagareiro (Octopus) which I loved. Despite knowing it was a vegan restaurant I initially thought it was octopus, but this wasn’t in an off putting way, it had just been thought through really well with flavour and texture. The accompaniments made for a very filling main meal. I finally finished with the Tarte de Nata, which was a great ending. Thanks to all the staff for a great meal. I can’t wait to come back and try more!
