Zero waste, sustainable, vegan cafe ❤️ - Edit
The title says it all, but I love this cafe. They have reusable containers that you can put a deposit on if you want something to go. They have reusable towels instead of napkins, metal straws, and overall a huge zero waste mentality. The food is delicious every time I go here! The lattes are incredible, and the staff are always so sweet! I love it there ❤️

Amazing vegan goodness - Edit
The perfect mix of healthy/fast food. Got the BBQ flat bread and the falafel wrap. Both equally as excellent. The side of potato salad was so tasty! Will be back for more.

SO MUCH LOVE! - Edit
Every aspect of this place amazed me - the aesthetic, the service, the delicious raspberry smoothie, the BEST “smoked salmon” bagel I’ve ever had. So much love for this place.

Nice zero-waste concept, though food not so great - Edit
I felt really cozy in this hipster café. It a spacious, bright place with subtle music, great to work or to organize your event! I also love the zero-waste concept (no paper napkins, encouraging to bring your own container, etc.).
Read moreUnfortunately, the food was not that amazing. I went there specially to taste the carrot lox bagel, which I frequently make at home but never ate outside. The cream cheese was really bitter though, making it almost inedible, although the food styling was great. My sesame latte was tasty but quite cold!
I will still give this place a second chance though.
Pros: Cosy place, Zero-waste
Cons: Location, Taste

Ticks (almost) all the boxes - Edit
Huge fan of this place and all for which it stands! The ambience is *very* Vancouver, the people are, well, kind and the food creative. Plus it’s all zero-waste and made mostly in-house! I can’t wait to see how their menu develops over time.
Read moreThat said, there are a few items I wouldn’t order again:
- The lox bagel was something I never ate before being vegan and probably never will again, haha, but if you do like the taste and order it, don’t be gluten free: The GF bagel gets so soggy from the overload of (very wet) toppings that you have to eat it with fork and knife. I’d much prefer a simple nut-based cream cheese and a take on a bagel breakfast sandwich.
- The Mediterranean bowl was also not quite my thing, which is surprising as it’s often my go-to elsewhere. I was admittedly remiss to ask them to omit the rather realistic tzatziki—which never fails to make me cringe regardless of where I try it—, but the texture of the finely sliced broccoli stems, which I can only describe as extremely wet, really didn’t help me get the thing down any quicker. Fortunately, I tried the Kind bowl on the next visit and love it as-is!
- Finally, I was thrilled to see a pumpkin spice latte on the menu, but I wasn’t so thrilled with the $6 result. First off, it’s usually served in a glass mug, which is pretty but loses heat crazy fast. Secondly, they currently have only one milk, which is a house-made oat-coconut. I could personally do without the coconut taste, and I know they’re developing another option, but my preferences aside, this milk really doesn’t work well in hot drinks: It separates extremely quickly, so you’re left with some spiced black coffee unless you get a spoon and constantly stir it up. I don’t know what zero-waste solution there is to making barista-ready oat milk à la Oatly or Earth’s Own, but I’m sure they’d get orders from cafés all across Vancouver were they to crack the code!
I’d also really like to see both gluten-free and simply wheat-free (e.g. spelt, rye, Kamut, etc.) bread and pasty options to make more of the menu accessible to those of us who can’t eat modern wheat.
I realise that my criticisms are far longer than my ‘positives’, but that’s much more to do with my hopeless loquaciousness than Kind Café and the rest of its offerings. Whether you’re a visitor or a local who’s yet to visit, definitely stop by and enjoy the future of vegan dining! Just be sure to bring your own containers if you plan on getting take-out. :)
Pros: Zero-waste mastery, Plenty of seating and seating styles, Discounted day-old pastries
Cons: Some items are a bit too ‘wet’ for my tastes, Only one (IMO mediocre) milk option as of now, Cheaper pastries=one more excuse to have one ;)

Perfect experience! - Edit
I love the baked goods and the snack foods. My heart was filled with joy when I saw everything was zero waste too! I love this place and I definitely will be back! I can’t believe I never tried this until last week when I played a tourist and checked out all the places in my area. I recommend this place.

I was so excited to see Kind Cafe as an option on Main St which is rich in comfort food but lacking in whole food. Kind cafe offers very conscious and delicious food options. Everything we ate was tasty, well portioned, and creative. The owner is a nutritionist and truly cares about offering diverse and healthy options for clients.
