so happy we stumbled upon this veggie palace! - Edit
Jaipur Palace is located a few minutes down the road from the famous Curry Mile and is found attached to the shabby Lansdowne "Hotel". We were pretty dubious about this place when we first entered, however, we were quickly blown away by the extensive all-vegetarian menu and the friendly and attentive owner's patient explanations of many of their unusual dishes. There were so many good recommendations that we couldn't decide between them and ordered far too much! Many dishes we tried were new to us but every one was mouthwatering and it was hard to choose a favourite. Can't remember most of the names but I think one of them was called Patra (steamed colocasia leaves rolled with a masala mix) it had a firm texture and was utterly delicious. Hubby had Malai Koftas and I had a curry with Aubergine and pomegranate. There were 8(!) types of daal to choose from; we tried the most unusual sounding one of course. We also went for one of the dosas (it was huge and came with a few accompaniments) Yes, it really was just the 2 of us! All of the other occupied tables were Indian families, which told us that this place is pretty authentic. And everyone was drinking mango lassis which made us very jealous - we'd already ordered beers when we realised what we were missing out on! Unsurprisingly I had about doubled in weight by the time we left but I was also ridiculously happy.
Read moreWe do visit Manchester every few months to see family so will most definitely be making many repeat visits to work through the rest of the menu! I will be dieting profusely until then, so that I can gorge myself silly again on our next visit! Highly recommended!
Pros: friendly and welcoming staff, many vegan dishes, clearly labelled , not your typical westernised curry house
Cons: a bit out o the way from the city centre, a bit too far from home in general

Great! - Edit
We ordered many different dishes to try a lot and it was all really delicious and authentic. The menu is fully vegetarian and half of it is vegan as well. I'd order again!

50% off and Still Not Worth It - Edit
Visited the restaurant under the eat out to help out scheme.
Read moreFrom the outset the service was extremely slow, and had to ask for menus and to order as the only waitress was far too busy.
When ordering drinks unfortunately the vast majority of drinks were not available. This should be made clear when the menu was given. Also, we did "check in" on facebook to get a free drink as stated on the menu, but the waitress said this didn't apply as it was already half price, which seemed bizarre as the restaurant still receives the other half from the government so it doesn't financially affect them.
Exactly one hour after we arrived, the food arrived at the table. All the portions looked incredibly small, like they were about 50% of the size they should've been if full price was being paid. The curries we ordered were good, but not incredible. The garlic naan looked like a child had made it. It was incredibly dense and dry, and had raw garlic cloves chopped up and pressed into it, bordering on the inedible. The peshwari naan was slightly better but still was the worst I have experienced. The biryani rice was okay.
We did finish our food, but we were still hungry. We didn't bother to order anything else as we didn't want to wait any longer and didn't think it was worth it for the price.
I did believe that under the scheme the restaurant had simply halved their portion sizes. I could not believe that anyone would be satisfied with paying full price for what we had ordered.
I paid at the bar so that it was quicker, not needing to attract attention from the busy waitress again. The gentleman working there told me that the 50% off offer was continuing through September without any help from the government, which did make sense to me as it seemed like no one would pay full price as stated earlier. I said that we still wouldn't come back as the wait was too long and other issues with the food. The gentleman also wanted to hear my thoughts on the food which I shared with him. He said that it shouldn't of been that way, and that if I come back I will be looked after. He could tell that I wasn't interested in returning.
Honestly, I think the only way that I would come back is if it was free and I had 2 and a half hours to kill, and even then I'm still not sure.
Pros: Many vegan options
Cons: Poor service, Bad food, Expensive

Lovely food! - Edit
Really lovely food here, nearly everything is vegan and if not they will accommodate to make it so anyway! The staff are lovely and it’s very very reasonably priced.

Better options nearby - Edit
Eaten here a few times, but there are much better options nearby. Service weird and in a very dodgy area. Would always choose to eat elsewhere now.

Proper southern food done properly - if you need your fix of idli/vada/dosa this is the best place (in my humble opinion).

Great extensive vegan options - Edit
Visited this place for curry while in Manchester for a morrissey concert.
Read moreIt's a little distance from the centre of Manchester and about a mile down from the famous curry mile but it's worth seeking out this one if you like authentic curry with extensive vegan options.
Don't be put off by its setting either it's attached to a rather grotty looking hotel.
The food was pretty amazing, staff were very friendly and quite informal it was a very relaxed atmosphere.
Great portion sizes and very reasonable prices.
Would highly recommend you give this one a try.
We will return next time we are in Manchester.

The lentil dhal is good, but not amazing, and it's pretty expensive for what you get.

A little gem - Edit
Very nice meal with excellent service. For starters I had the steamed colocasia leaf rolls (Patra), which were delicious. My main dish was the Bhindi (okra) masala, which was again delicious though a little oily for my liking. My husband had the Undhiyu, which unfortunately he wasn't keen on though I had a taste and thought it was very good. The menu is huge and a little overwhelming considering I'm not used to so many vegan choices (a huge plus, obviously!) We will definitely be returning as I'd like to try as many dishes as possible. I really enjoyed it, highly recommend.

Great Food - Edit
Great curry, the flavours are so lively. I can't fault the food at all. I was a bit disappointed that there were no vegan desert options, they were on the menu just not in stock. The staff are attentive, food was quick. The outside is a bit scruffy, the hotel doesn't looking inviting, inside the layout doesn't really work but it's not unpleasant.

Wonderful curry house - Edit
A really extensive menu, with vegan options clearly marked and plenty of them to choose from. Servings are pretty generous, so we actually over-ordered. It was very quiet, despite it being a Friday night, and we were served quickly by friendly staff. The food was so tasty, really nicely spiced. I'll definitely be back for more. The bread was especially amazing!

five stars! - Edit
Amazing menu with an eclectic range of dishes, certainly not your usual identikit curry house. Each dish was delicious and there is an abundance of clearly labelled vegan dishes - circa 75% of the menu I would estimate. Lovely staff, friendly atmosphere and considered decor. The prices are very reasonable. A brilliant find and perhaps now my favourite curry house in the UK after just one visit!
