So much food! - Edit

Popped in for lunch today - huge variety of food on offer and huge portions too! I was surprised at how many extras and side dishes came with my veggie lasagne! Good value for money but chose your time to visit, it gets very busy and the tables are so close together I felt like I was sharing my lunch with the woman on the next table!

Pros: Wide choice of food, Good value for money, Vegan dishes available

Cons: Very busy at times, queue swamped my table where I

Younger and bigger of iydea sisters - Edit

I love both the Iydeas, Western Rd one slightly better just because it's bigger and not as busy. Amazing vegan food for everyone, even meat eaters can't have enough of it!

Pros: Spaciuos, Delicious vegan dishes, Cheap

Amazing place! - Edit

I absolutely love this place. There is an excellent choice of vegan and vegetarian foods, drinks, desserts, along with well labelled gluten-free options.
The quality is excellent. Tastes really great. Menu changes daily so you can expect something different every time you go.
The value is amazing for what you get! You go to the counter and take your food away on a tray, so you get to eat quickly if you are just dashing through.
They also do take out.
I am a big fan of all of their food labels, telling you exactly what is in the dish and whether it is also suitable for vegans or those on a gluten-free diet. Big thumbs up for that.
I've eaten a various selection of the salads; the vegan gluten-free main meals and the freshly juiced juices. Everything is fab! I really recommend it.

Pros: Amazing value, Great options, Healthy and vibrant

As nice as the other one, but plenty of room! - Edit

I really like the original Iydea and it's great for a quick bite or takeaway but you can't usually hang around because it's so busy.

This newer branch has food that's just as good with a more relaxed atmosphere. We got there fairly early for Sunday lunch and didn't have to queue at all. After that it got busier but even when we left there were some tables available, so we didn't feel bad about lingering over our coffee. The staff are charming and helpful and will bring your hot drinks upstairs - I think they would help with your food as well if you had problems carrying it.

There is loads for vegans (including cakes) and the food is thoughtfully prepared and served even though the prices are moderate. I had a Mexican wrap thing (forget correct designation) which was spicy but not excessively so, and then we shared some gateau-type cakes.

Pros: Lovely food, inc. vegan, at a fair price, Friendly staff, Spacious

Great Place! - Edit

Excellent interior. Very professional feel, with a selection of wholesome vegetarian standards. Vegan and Vegetarian (dairy).

Meals consist of main and two sides - hot or salads.

Pros: affordable

Cons: could do with even more vegan choices

Good food! - Edit

As others have said, this branch has lots of seating so even though it was really busy we were able to get a nice table upstairs with a view for people-watching!
There were several vegan options for the main, including a delicious vegan lasagne with cashew cheese. All the sides and salads seemed to be vegan and several cakes.
As I said in my review on the North Lanes Iydea, this place reminds me of the way Food for Friends used to be in the good old days ...
Great fresh flavours, fairly speedy even on a busy day, pleasant seating and relaxed feel to the upstairs, reasonable prices, it was worth the walk from the town centre.

Pros: Vegan options - inc lasagne, Fresh tasting, Seating

Cons: Bit of a walk out of town, Not 100% vegan

Great new branch with glorious food - Edit

I visited the new Iydea for the first time yesterday, for lunch with a friend. I can highly recommend it.

Downstairs is almost exclusively tall stools around tall tables (there is one round table with proper chairs) which seems more like where you would go for a quick snack or just a drink and a cake. As someone with back problems, sitting on a backless stool is a no-no so I was very pleased to discover that upstairs there are plenty of big tables with proper chairs!

Food is ordered at the counter downstairs from a large, well-written menu on removable/changeable chalkboards. You basically order a main course from a list of about 8, and the price includes two side dishes (choice of 4 hot and 4 cold) and a topping (ie houmous, garlic and coriander salsa, tzatziki).

I had nutty vegetable crumble (vegan), and chose roasted carrots with sweet potatoes, chilli and coriander, and new potatoes in butter and chives as my two side dishes, and garlic and coriander topping. Good portion sizes and it was all available in the heated counter behind the till. You can see into the kitchen through an open door too, which is always promising!

There's a good list of drinks - I can recommend the homemade lemonade (as long as you don't want your lemonade sweet or fizzy!)

They have a different price for eat in or takeaway. My nutty vegetable crumble with two sides and a topping was £7.40 but would have been just £5.60 to take away (note that I don't know if the takeaway portions are exactly the same size).

It's definitely worth a visit. It was certainly easy to get a table but I went on a Monday lunchtime which probably isn't the busiest time anywhere. I haven't tried it in the evening yet but when I've gone past, it has always seemed fairly busy. I think it might suffer just a little from being just that little bit further away from the main shopping centre but anyone who has tried the original (but tiny) branch in the North Laine area would be willing to walk that extra 5 minutes to reach it.

Definitely worth a try!

Pros: Great food, Comfortable seating (upstairs), Lots of vegan options

Cons: Location a little further than ideal

Idyea with tables - Edit

I love the one in the north laines but its impossible to get a seat much of the time. This one has a spacious seating area downstairs and upstairs, so no danger of disappointment. Similar idea on the food, order at the counter although this branch you order with the cashier and then the kitchen staff get your food ready, but still pretty quick. All the sides are vegan and most of the cakes too. It's a little bit of a walk down past waitrose so not as handy to get to, but the food's worth the walk.

Pros: You can get a table , Great vegan choice , Excellent vegan cake

Cons: Bit of a walk to it , It's not very busy, so not much atmosphere

Good Iydea - Edit

Serving very similar food to the original one in the North Laine, this Iydea has one big advantage in that it is substantially larger and because of its location a lot less busy. (Trying to get a table at lunch at the one in the North Laine is often a great achievement).

Service is very fast, normally being handed your food before you pay, but with all the other aspects you would expect of a sit-down restaurant. The staff are very friendly and helpful and there is a good selection of food and drink on offer.

Every time I have been 50% plus of the options have been Vegan with about the same amount being Gluten Free. Of the deserts 5/6 were Vegan and there were definitely Gluten Free options. Everything is at least Vegetarian.

The location is only about 5 minutes walk from Churchill Square and several busses stop next to it. I can highly recommend this place... Particularly the Mayan Chilli and Chocolate Cake (Which is Vegan). It also does take-out.

Pros: Good for Vegans & GF, Does Take-out and Sit-in, Easy to get a table

Cons: Quiet
