Best vegan cake!

A must visit if you’re in Edinburgh. The food is amazing. I had some of the tapas for lunch - stuffed courgette was particularly good! And the carrot cake is the best vegan cake I’ve had. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Pros: Lots of choice , Amazing cake

Cons: A bit on the pricey side - but worth it!

Henderson's Vegan

I really appreciated the nice stuff, nice facility and a good German Fritz-Kola. What I sadly disliked was the meal: I had Tofu Teriyaki. No one told me (or has been marked in the card) that only the Tofu and the rice was hot. The other stuff was cold. Maybe some people like cold meals - not me... In Germany this would be marked as "Antipasti" - then you know it is cold. So I wouldn't take this one... Sad.

Pros: nice stuff, especially Daniel. , nice location, good German Fritz-Kola

Cons: waited a long time for the meal, meal was cold, expensive

Best vegan bistro!

Delicious selection of salads in the bistro. Always seems busy but seem to always get a seat! Lots of options. Today we had the thai burger and pakora with two salads - bistro shop is the best value for money rather than the restaurant downstairs.

Pros: Lots of delicious vegan options, Friendly/helpful staff , Value for money

SO worth it!!

Loved everything here—the food, the service and the experience :) so yummy. I had risotto and the stuffed butternut squash and a tumeric latte and it was all delicious. Very reasonably priced—I was *super* hungry so I’m glad I got a starter too because I did find the portion to be a little small for me but definitely worth it because the tapas starter I got was delicious.

not the best vegan spot in Edinburgh

JUST A TIP: If you are looking to eat at Henderson’s Vegan restaurant then ring up in advance and book the window seat! The seats were booked when I got there. They are the best seats in the small restaurant. The waitress had to turn people away whilst I was there.

I was quite disappointed with how small the menu was. Most of the food is fairly healthy. No vegan junk food here!

I had the soup (£6) which was lovely. I appreciated that the bread came with a little pot of vegan butter. Technically it was a starter on the menu but I wanted a slightly cheaper option. The mains were around £11.

My friend and I each had a chocolate nut cake and found it was quite dry. It comes with coconut whipped cream but it wasn’t enough. We really needed more because the cake was so dry.

I had a smoothie and it was nice, nothing special though. I preferred Holy Cow (another vegan restaurant around the corner)
I also think the Henderson cafe is nicer, look at both before deciding where to eat.

Pros: 100% vegan restaurant , changing specials

Cons: pricey for small portions , dry cake, people get turned away when it’s busy, make sure t

We came here for lunch and had mushroom linguine and a platter. For dessert we sharad a chocolate mousse. Staff here is friendly and food is fresh and good. Loved gingerella lemonade. Would come back another time and recommend this place. 🖤🇮🇹

Celebrating at Henderson's

I had lunch at this restaurant to celebrate the handing in of my PhD on February 6. The food: starter, main and dessert were absolutely stunning and really surpassed my expectations by a mile. The service was also excellent - the waitress was from Southern Spain and was very, very efficient and attentive without being overbearing. If every restaurant trained their staff so well, the world would be a happier place. I had the cured carrot bruschetta which was a world of flavour and I had to resist licking my plate! The main was a celeriac salad with quite a bit of complexity - a savoury granola which was a great idea, leaves, chestnuts and a delicious and contrasting salsa verde. I must say, I was impressed. Dessert was a gorgeous carrot cake with cashew cappuccino. One thing that's sure, just like the Terminator, I'll be back!

Pros: Food, Location - very near Prince's St, Price is very reasonable

Cons: All Edinburgh restaurants aren't run by Hendersons

Excellent

We went to the one on Holyrood. Really varied menu with mainly vegan options and some veggie options that could be made vegan. Very friendly atmosphere and even games you could play. Also amazing selection of non-milk milks - I had a hazelnut milk hot chocolate!

All-round wonderful!

My partner and I had a beautiful meal here - we had soup and incredible cured carrot bruschetta (very similar to smoked salmon), tofu bacon, kale and mushroom linguine and roasted butternut squash with pearl barley, then sticky toffee pudding to finish. All amazingly tasty, beautifully presented, and very friendly staff. Plant milk options of oat, cashew, hazelnut, almond and coconut. The cherry on the cake was the starter and main for £12.50 deal - great value!

Nice vegan restaurant

Henderson's vegan is a cute little spot in Edinburgh. The menu offers a nice choice of vegan dishes. The special dish, mushroom linguine, was delicious. The same can be said for the teriyaki bowl. However, the wow factor was kinda missing I have to admit. The chocolate nut cake was outstanding though! Service was very good as well. Btw I suggest you to book cause it is quite small but super busy

An honest review

Lovely little place, the staff are super friendly and the food is tasty however the portions are tiny and the prices are hefty. Was left so hungry after my meal plus dessert that I had to go elsewhere to get another meal.
***needs improvement but editing rating because food was tasty, just not enough of it especially for the price***

This established restaurant deserves it's good reputation

Lovely vegan restaurant with modern but comfortable decor. A range of innovative main dishes, and a Scottish haggis option! Delicious juices and desserts too. Not too pricey.

Fantastic

Wonderful food and friendly service. We stopped in for sweets our first night in Edinburgh and enjoyed a blueberry cheesecake and chocolate nut cake. They were so good we came back for lunch the next day! We had the Haggis and Tofu Buddha Bowl as well as the Playful Platter starter. All amazing.

THAT CREAM CHEESE DIP THOUGH!

I went to Edinburgh in July for 3 days.
I went here EVERYDAY.
For lunch the day we arrived, I had the mixed platter (Their changing the menu so I can't view it to give the proper name) It had oatcakes, sourdough bread, artichoke dip, hummus, olives (I changed them for extra hummus) and this
AMAZING, AMAZING CHEESEY DIP! Even my omni dad who wouldn't eat at a vegan place if he had a choice (It was my birthday trip so he didn't) absolutely loved it. He had second helpings.

Both my mum and dad had the risotto, it looked good but the portion size was a bit small.

For main I had the haggis with neeps (Turnips) and tatties (Potatoes), it was really good, the turnip was al dente which for me is too underdone for turnip but I was so happy to try vegan haggis because it's obviously a regional dish but vegan. I did have a slice of the chocolate cake. It was dry, I must say that, it was but the flavour was still good.

We also went there for the following two days for breakfast. First day I had the pancakes, and shared the tofu Benedict with my mum. The pancakes were fantastic and I don't like tofu, but this was GOOD tofu it was meaty and smoked so it went well with the vegan Benedict sauce. My mum had the porridge both mornings and loved it. My dad had toast (Cause he boring).

The second day I had the full scottish breakfast, though unfortunately I didn't get a tattie scone which I was really looking forward to, I was to nervous to ask. Once again, I loathe tofu most of the time, but their scrambled tofu was damn good, as was the homemade sausage. I also shared the hazelnut bread with my mum, bit dry but good. The hot drinks are quite small for the price, my mums coffee and my hot chocolate were good, and they have a good selection of plant milks, but for the size their not truly worth it unless it's an all out sort of meal.

Overall the place is super clean, the man who served us each time was polite and made conversation and we felt very welcome. The other Hendersons do have the odd vegan option, I believe at the time I went they all served the mixed platter, and some sweet treats, however I didn't get to try the other ones out in during my time in Edinburgh.

Pros: THE HEAVENLY CHEESEY DIP, Polite staff, Regional dishes made vegan

Cons: Pricey drinks

Delicious

I couldn't decide between 4 and 5 stars ;) I loved the food (Buddha bowl was a masterpiece) and a place is really nice. The service was not the best tho. The waiters were nice guys but they didn't care too much about customers, some moments I felt invisible. But it was Sunday evening and I believe they just wanted to be at home ;) Portions could be bigger because I was still a bit hungry after the most expensive (presume the biggest) main. In general I recomend if you are not in rush and not starving.
