Haggis! - Edit
There's no better way to failte your Alba than haggis... Vegan organic style. Went for family meal and did not disappoint. Plenty of chain restaurants en route but fancied doing something local, Scottish and not something we could get in any other town. Note that there is a deli attached, salad bar too but these seem to technically be different places.
Read moreThe more observant among you will no doubt be aware that haggis, to quote Peter puppy from EWJ, is the "heart, liver and lips of a sheep, boiled in its own stomach"- but the vegan version is well seasoned, savoury legumes and grains (lentils, pearl barley) with a savoury sage infused red wine gravy and purple potatoes. Piled high and delicately flavoured. Wife got the wee mini burgers resplendent with onion rings and fries. Patties made from black beans and strong tasting with a sweet apple sauce compliment - well executed, generous, tasty. Got the special for dessert, a nice take on cheesecake with a light mousse sharp raspberry and biscuit base. Very good and I think more than reasonable for the taste. Be warned there aren't a lot of seats in the vegan bistro - but filled up quickly when we were in. Pretty quick and decent service. Baby change table too in downstairs bogs- in 1 stall so bit of a squeeze.
Really enjoyed, great work. Special local cuisine.

Go early if you want alone time - Edit
I was here quite early so the place was completely empty, which to me, always feels a bit weird. The food was delicious and very filling. I had the tofu teriyaki bowl.

Good, heathy, vegan - Edit
Good, healthy and fresh vegan food, the best part of the Henderson’s group. They have a great selection of vegan desserts and coffees too. A little on the expensive side but for good heathy vegan food I think it’s worth it

Absolutely delicious! - Edit
Only had „starters“, it was amazing! Apart from all that vegan burger- and other junkfood-places, Handersons really has something special here. We’ve also had freshly blended juice and deserts.

Amazing restaurant, quite small and quirky. Lovely prosecco, their vegan haggis was incredible and the carrot cake was probably one of the best cakes I've tried. 10/10 and a lovely friendly waitress that had only been working their for 2 days!

Scottish vegan food; a lot of vegan beers, wines and cider; the place can be packed and is not as cosy as the other Henderson (this one being more a propper restaurant)

Great take away Vegan Grub! - Edit
Called in to Henderson’s to grab some scran for the road. I was greeted with a combination of fantastic vegan sandwiches, wraps, and all sorts of Plant based goodies. Certainly worth stopping by if your in Edinburgh.

OK place - Edit
The restaurant is cozy with good ambiance. The waiter was friendly and the beer was good. However, I don't think the place is fully vegan as the menu read that any dish can be made vegan. I had the tapas which I thought was a bit boring. The sweet potato fries, however, were excellent.
Read moreI went back the next morning for breakfast which was a bit better.
The place is a bit expensive and I'd like to see a few more interesting choices on the menu. Will probably try a different restaurant next time I come to Edinburgh.
Pros: Friendly, Good beer, Excellent fries
Cons: Can get expensive, Menu a bit limited, Not fully vegan???

Good stuff - Edit
The biggest issue with the bistro is it's a wee bit small and often feels cramped. I hope this gets worse now it's converted to a full vegan menu.
Read moreIts had a makeover and is looking lovely and fresh, just like the food. The staff were keen to know how we heard about the change and were really interested in feedback about the food, which is great. A Happy Cow decal is now in the window.
Back a couple of weeks ago and really getting better and better. The mushroom and olive tapenade was awesome.
The majority of people visiting on the day i was there were not vegan, but with a decent amount of media publicity around the veggie to vegan move meant it was busy. the food was great sharing and edamame salad and main courses of thai fritters, chickpea pancake with broccoli and vegan cheese, both of which were great.
we even managed to share some banoffee pie which was also excellent.
Back again with the lovely Morgan. She had tofu teriyaki and I had the cauliflower steaks. Morgan was up from London and seemed to really enjoy the experience, so much so she nearly ate her plate.
Great lunch.
Back again and wow. Sharing plate starter with three dips, bread , crackers and olives.
Mains on mushroom and kale linguine and a tofu teriyaki bowl. Both full of flavour and excellent quality.
Stopped in for lunch. Yummy. Tofu teriyaki bowl was the biz.
Pros: vegan, staff, location

Sweet little place for a mid-market dinner - Edit
I really enjoyed my visit! It was perfect for a nice meal with a friend... not overly fancy but a pleasant change to chain restaurants etc. I opted for the vegan haggis which was delicious, although the presentation wasn’t perfect I really enjoyed the dish! The caramel cheesecake was really good too. I enjoyed the fact it was served in a glass with the base on the top rather than a slice. I found service to be decently paced. I’d recommend booking if you wanted to go, we got lucky and got a table walking in but it’s only small.
