All vegetarian store selling organic produce, deli, vitamins, a nice frozen foods selection, herbs and spices; will take special orders. Open Mon-Sat 09:00-18:00.
A really lovely shop with great products. It feels as though a lot of thought has been put in to the types of products being sold. Everything is high-quality, with lots of vegan options. There are even a few tables provided for people buying fresh food from the bakery and deli. A great place to go for a quick, healthy and affordable lunch.
Pros: A few tables provided with delicious lunch options, Thoughtful, delicious and affordable products, Different from products stocked in other places
I have lost count of the hard to get (other than online) vegan goodies that they have ordered in specially and then stocked. Great range of products, very helpful and gorgeous homemade smoked garlic
Even though it’s a little shop, there’s so much packed in here. You can always find just what you need and I love that you can buy all of the herbs and spices by weight and so they’re zero waste! Several refill options too.
Whilst the shop is small it's got a lot of stock. One if my favourites is the locally made chickpea pie I often pick it up for lunch. It's a great place to grab the items you may not find in your larger supermarket.
It was a lovely place there was fruit and veg near the seating area meaning that you could have that wonderful smell! The food from the deli was okay but vegan options were view but at the time of visit the options were I think just the veggie focaccia or salad! I had the veggie focaccia! As for what they sold they had a small range of products against other whole foods but it was okay I got some veggie bouillon, tempeh and hummus chips!
A great little shop in the prettiest street in town. There's so much choice in such a small shop, and there's always new products arriving every week.
Prices are cheaper than one would expect on a lot of foods, although the high price of some supplements and cosmetics is daunting, it reflects their quality.
Staff are friendly, helpful and full of information, not only about the shop stock, but health food/veganism/ homeopathy/local events generally. They're happy to order in non stock items and will give a discount on ordered items.
Lighting is a bit dim, but it adds to the cottagey, old fashioned feel to the shop. There are shelves full of self service herbs and spices, information leaflets, 2 notice boards, loads of different vegetarian and organic wines, ciders and spirits, a great Fairtrade effort, a focus on locally sourced products, dedication to quality and a lovely aroma as you enter.
There's fresh bread daily with wheat free and yeast free options, special diet pastas and flours. Everything you need from a store (and a little bit more!)
Can't recommend the place enough.
Wonderful.
A great little store which has a great range of stuff for vegans, including toiletries and home cleaning stuff (though they lose a point for stocking the animal tested Ecover products). They stock lots of frozen food plus chilled burgers, vegan cheese etc as well as lots of herbs, veggie alcohol and fresh, organic, vegetables. Also has a useful notice board and displays vegetarian/animal rights leaflets. Not much in takeaway food sadly but a few flapjacks and cakes usually in the fridge.
You may be pleased to know FromeWholefoods are trialling a replacement for Ecover products (ask them for a free sample of Suma laundry liquid, bring a bottle!), apparently Ecover products are being phased out due to their aggressive sales tactics.
They don't stock any animal tested products at all.The GM enzyme in Ecover dishwasher tabs means they have been removed from sale.
There are more ready to eat products like salads, pie slices and soups (all vegan)arriving weekly.
It's a great shop and getting better!!
Regards, Graham
That's great news, especially about the possible removal of Ecover products. However, whilst they are stocking Ecover they are, of course, still selling items that have been animal tested and it's a pity that they are not removing them for that reason rather than their 'agressive marketing' (which is something I too hate about the company but not so much as their testing!!). Ecover products are tested not only on daphnia (water fleas) but on rabbit blood (which I am pretty sure the rabbit didn't donate happily!!!!). This is a link to a report on the situation which was made public a few years ago when the Vegan Society discovered what was going on and removed their logo from Ecover products.http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1991

Stopped here by chance - it's in a lovely location on a quaint little lane with a sort of stream running down the middle - worth visiting in itself!
