The greatest discovery of my day in Mendocino - Edit
I always go “window shopping” in Mendocino when on my annual camping trip and since going vegan, finding places to eat on my trip can be challenging. Not anymore! I can’t wait to visit Fog Eater Cafe again and feast on all of their vegan menu items.
Read moreAt first, I thought that I could only get the crabby patty’s, because I’m so used to menus showing their (V+) code for vegan items, which this menu didn’t have any of. I was then told that everything on the menu was vegan (even though it doesn’t say that anywhere), so I ordered additional items and I’m so glad I did. I cannot recommend this place enough. Treat yourself, go all out and feast on the delicious vegan plates at Fog Eater cafe.
Pros: Fun ambiance , Great food, Friendly staff
Cons: Needs to list what’s vegan and what isn’t

Forget Raven’s at Stanford Inn, which was hugely disappointing. This place was amazing. Everything was so delicious. We had the crabby patties, creole tofu and beignets. Yummy! I can’t wait to return.

Pretty tasty and reasonable prices - Edit
My partner and I went for dinner on a Thursday evening and sat at the single small table they had in front of the cafe with our dog. They indicated it was the only dog friendly seating they had available.
Read moreThe servers were super nice though and took care of us swiftly. Food came out pretty quickly as well.
The menu had no indication of it, but we were told by the server that everything was vegan on it that evening. She said only brunch on Sundays served eggs but that overall the menu for dinner has been totally vegan recently.
We got the buffalo cauliflower sliders and hush puppies from the starters menu and then an entree of BBQ Lima beans, cornbread, creole Mac and cheese, and when the plate came out it also had three large grilled chiles.
The sliders were delicious and I loved the hush puppies. I was less into our entree overall (my partner really liked the Mac and cheese) but the real winner for me was dessert.
For $12 my partner was served three large beignet with two sauces liberally sprinkled with powdered sugar. For $10 I was served a large slice of golden beat cake with almond cream cheese frosting and a sour cherry sauce on top. It was delicious. Also it is now hands down the best vegan cream cheese frosting I've had.
We're planning on going again for sure.
Pros: Fully vegan menu , Reasonable prices, Delicious
Cons: Smaller selection

Says Vegetarian but actually the menu was all vegan. - Edit
This is a lively place to have a completely plant based meal, and there is an adjacent shop with specialty items for takeaway and picnics plus a large wine collection. We started with a steamed artichoke with a lemon aioli. We had an amazing vegetable pot pie and bbq Lima beans, braised greens and their vegetable of the day: roasted beets with avocado. We were quite full but couldn’t resist the pie of the day to take home: a strawberry rhubarb, which was as excellent!

All vegan. Very unique, delicious food - Edit
The menu was 100% vegan when we went. Inside the small space smelled strongly of fried food, but outdoors in the back garden (which includes lights and heaters) was beautiful and relaxing. They use mismatched vintage-y looking tableware which was charming. The waitstaff were busy but very nice and helpful.
Read moreThe food menu is relatively short and they were out of a couple of things, but the food we got was all amazing. We love great food and this was a super memorable meal with unique featured ingredients (we’ve eaten at at least 4-5 other soul food vegan restaurants and hadn’t had food like this) and everything was super delicious. Even my small children got it, fighting over caramelized rainbow carrots and broad beans that were just scrumptious. Savory, saucy, flavorful. Not overly greasy or unhealthy.
Can’t wait to return on our next visit to Mendocino. It’s been a few weeks and I’m still thinking about this meal. Don’t miss this place!!

Amazing Vegan Spot - Edit
So many great sounding vegan options. We had the pickle plate, which was great fun tasting each individual pickled veg, crab cakes, and Southern plate (every part of it was soooooo tasty!). We also had the moon pie and banana pudding desserts which were really yummy. Staff were really friendly.

$$-$$$, it’s not dirt cheap but everything was absolutely amazing and delicious.

Deliciousness - Edit
Finally dined here, it’s been on our list of places to eat at! We shared small plates so we could get a taste of several different dishes. We started with the curried pumpkin soup was infused with Thai flavors and was really good. We also had mushroom toast (daily special), biscuit sliders (buffalo cauliflower), mashed potatoes & gravy and delicata squash. And we had to have the beignets for dessert which were warm and fluffy and served with apple butter and chocolate sauce. Everything was delicious!

Amazing southern vegan food - Edit
Such a great little cafe! Southern flair and a great menu. Nice outdoor seating area and great service. I had the fried oyster mushrooms as a main and we hit up happy hour as well. We had the hush puppies, pickles plate and the pimento cheese plate. All so tasty and flavorful! Don’t miss the Mac and cheese! The only eggs used are from the owners personal hens. All other items are vegan besides one dish. Enjoy!

Spectacular! Worth the long wait to get in. - Edit
This may have been the best meal that I’ve eaten in seven years! My friend and I ordered the Fried Blue Oyster Mushrooms with mashed potatoes fava green gravy braised greens. Wow!!! As close to fried chicken as anything I’ve ever eaten as a vegan. (Fried chicken is the only “flesh” that I miss, but would never again eat.) The greens and gravy were equally exceptional. I wish they were open every day.

fantastic vegan desserts - Edit
We enjoyed the southern plate, with creamy mac and cheese, baked beans, corn bread, and veggies. But the highlight was the dessert. The beignets were excellent, really rich and delicious, with plenty of chocolate sauce. The berry pie had a perfect flaky crust and delicious filling.

Savor The Fog! - Edit
We decided to give this little place a try since reviews stated that the deviled eggs was the only thing on the menu not vegan. We asked one of the owners why they didn't have anything on the menu stating vegan or otherwise. She said, "We are the subtle vegan place".
Read moreWell let me say there was nothing subtle about the flavors in their Southern Plate! The sauce on the lightly roasted broccoli was incredible! The mac n cheese cheese sauce was the best I've ever tasted! And the cute little cornbread skillet was the perfect cute addition! The whole place is a cuteness overload from the ocean cottage front to the comfortable backyard setting atmosphere with beautiful succulent foliage to highlight it's quaintness! The service was quick and friendly as well!
I would give this place a 5 Star Rating if I could!
Pros: Lots of vegan options

Everything is delicious - Edit
We had dinner here one night and then canceled our reservations elsewhere to come back the next night - it was that good! We were told the only non-vegan dinner item is deviled eggs (and there are eggs on the Sunday brunch menu), so we did our best to eat our way through the rest of the menu. Everything we tried was delicious!

Exquisite vegan gem - Edit
From the lovely servers, to the backyard tea garden-esque setup, to the sense-inspiring dishes, The Fog Eater was delightful. Highly recommended for a date night or dinner with a friend. Each menu item sounded tantalizing — everything would have been a great choice.
Read moreThe soup of the day was an incredible nettle and lemon soup. Such a fun, uplifting combination. The cabbage rolls were cooked to perfection and paired with a revolutionary beet spread. The entré of fried oyster mushrooms, mashed potatoes, and collard greens was absolutely delectable.
Make sure to leave room for dessert. Truly inspired.
Pros: Creative flavor combinations, Wonderful staff and welcoming atmosphere, Very affordable for the high quality of food

Very flavorful and creative. Our best meal yet at Mendocino. 100% vegan. Sat outside on porch.
Read moreThe zucchini soup was creamy and tasted so fresh. The biscuit sliders with fried green tomatoes and slaw was our favorite. We shared the southern plate with Mac n cheese (gluten-free). The best Mac n cheese we’ve had. For desserts we had apple/blackberry pie served with coco whip. Homemade flaky crust and not too sweet fresh fruit filling. But the best was the chocolate cheesecake. Not the raw version with date and nut crust were used to but better than traditional cheesecake. We’d go here again and again and again.

Not to be missed. Deviled eggs are only non vegan item. Service was impeccable, and the social distance seating was great for us. Seems lots of people showed up for the happy hour so getting there at opening dinner time, quite a few tables were already taken. We got a great table down in a corner spot.

The most amazing humans work here honestly, their service alone gives this place a 10/10. I just about licked every dish that I had from here clean. The brunch menu is filled with different types of biscuits and beignets. All worth trying. Even the bathroom here is super cute. I absolutely love this place and I'm so glad that I was gifted the opportunity to experience it.

So good! - Edit
I just missed their grand opening last time I visited Mendocino, so I made a point to stop by on this trip. They didn’t disappoint! Living in the Bay Area, I have access to a lot of great vegan southern/soul food restaurants, but Fog Eater is possibly the best I’ve tried anywhere.
Read moreThe Hush Puppies were really unique & delicious, the Biscuit Sliders were incredible (and actually the best part of the meal, despite stiff competition), and the Southern Plate was solid. The vegan Beignets were better than the ones I tried when visiting New Orleans a few years ago.
Can’t recommend this restaurant enough!
Pros: Incredible food, Friendly staff, Cozy room
