Lots of vegan options but I went for the jackfruit birria tacos and a side of white beans. I have to confess I wasn’t too impressed by either…I really wished I liked them more. The Oreo mousse for dessert was delicious though! I would like to go back and try different items on the menu.

Love that there’s a vegan menu! The Chimichanga was delicious 😋. I wasn’t a fan of the chips and salsas though. The chips were a bit stale tasting and the salsa had a strange flavor. It was kinda like a marinara sauce with oregano 🌿rather than a typical Mexican salsa. The margaritas were on point.

Friendly staff, great drinks from the bar and an amazing selection of vegan food. Try the chimichanga with potatoes. The salsas offered are fresh and delicious as well.

We were very fond of the previous owners and had not returned since they left. So happy we did as the food was amazing!! The vegan menu has changed some but all of our favorites were still included. Highly recommend!

I've eaten here many times plus I get it delivered via Doordash. The food is consistently good. I especially like the vegan soup, especially the pozole! As a matter of fact, I liked it so much I tried to recreate it at home. Lol. The staff is super nice too. If you eat inside they have a fantastic chips and salsa bar! They actually have a pretty extensive vegan/vegetarian menu, so check it out!

This place was fantastic! It seems like any Mexican restaurant that offers vegan or vegetarian fare just gives you some beans and salsa and tortillas. But this place is really creative! It has a full page of vegan menu items. We had the vegan Chile verde burrito which was awesome. In their chips and salsa bar, they had a pineapple cucumber salsa that was so uniquely fresh and delicious. The owner is vegan and was sharing her experience with us and how important good nutrition is. We will definitely be back to try more of their stuff.

The food was great! Definitely not the place to go if you’re looking for something healthier, the vegan taquitos I ordered were dripping in oil. Keep in mind that although they’ve labeled items as vegan, you’ll have to request no cheese or sour cream. This place has such a nice interior, I love the woodwork on the chairs and tables.

So good. They always have a full vegan menu with tons of items and right now they have a bunch of extra specials for the challenge. My favorite place outside of puerto Vallarta for sure.

Although this is not a fully vegan restaurant they truly are so accommodating. I’ve been here a handful of times and even though it is a bit far from main downtown area of Sacramento it’s worth it! Full page of vegan options and great prices. Help yourself chips and salsa bar.

They have an extensive vegan section to their menu that provides a wide variety of vegan dishes. Everything is delicious! Their salsas are amazing and the dishes are original, not just the typical Mexican restaurant foods with vegan substitutes. Customer service is also outstanding!

A Whole Page All-Vegan in the Menu! - Edit
We were in NE Sacramento and saw this listing on Happy Cow, and . . . wow! A whole page of the menu—the first page!— is all-vegan. Not even in San Francisco do we have a non-veg Mexican restaurant with a whole vegan page! I had the vegan posole, which was totally delicious. My husband had the taquito plate, which was also delicious. Our child had the kids’ quesadilla plate; so good. The (vegan) Spanish rice was the best I’ve ever had. Highly recommended.

First time eating here and we tried the Vegan Challenge. The Vegan menudo was unbelievable, the vegan soychorizo was unbelievable and the mini deep fried chimichanga dessert was fantastic!!! We will be coming back every week.

Everything I have tried here, from the various amazing salsas to the soyrizo taquitos and cactus fajitas was amazing. Highly recommend while in the Carmichael area to all types of vegetarians. 💚

We've been dining here frequently for the last year or so, and we've never had any problems or an unsatisfactory meal. The wait staff is knowledgeable and helpful with the vegan menu, gives great recommendations and ensures safe ordering with color coded pens specificity for vegan food. Everything we've tried so far has been a hit, the chimichanga is anyways a go to. Unlimited & help yourself chips and salsa bar.

“Don’t Miss This 5-Star Foodie Stop!” - Edit
Wow... this place will fast become one of your regular "Foodie Stops." The cuisine is incredible and the place is so clean and picturesque that you will be telling all your friends and family, and yes even your esteemed work colleagues, about this fantastic place. Vege, Vegan, Vegetarian... or NOT, it just doesn't matter when you are talking about flavor. Vegans especially, will find it hard to be mad at these guys who also serve meat because someone in this establishment has to be Vegan with all the attention and special menu details they give to Vegan eating (Yes, that's Daiya Cheese you're eating there). We tried every vegan taco on the Wednesday All-You-Can-Eat-Tacos Special along with the most delightful rice and beans. The beans were so good that when I visit next, I'm going to ask them if I can hold the rice so I can have “double” beans. You'll just have to try El Papagayo for yourself because there is no way to do justice to the entire "Restaurant Experience" without giving your taste buds a first-hand experience. Try it... you'll thank yourself, for sure!

I love the food at El Papagayo. Rosa and her family make authentic vegan Mexican food. So many choices! On Wednesday nights they have all you can eat vegan tacos and rice and beans. Can't be missed!
