Nice menu but food is too salty - Edit
While I appreciate the fabulous team of employees and many great menu items, they use entirely too much salt on the food. High blood pressure and obesity is killing black families. Time to get real.
Read moreI couldn’t taste the actual ingredients due to the salt. Chefs need to back down using salt and let diners salt at the table. Spices and herbs are great but not sodium!
Food is prepared as ordered and I asked for no added salt but they didn’t get it. For example, they had to prepare a gluten-free cheez sauce for me. I told her not to put salt in the sauce and she looked at me funny. The dish was full of salt!
I took what I couldn’t eat home and rinsed everything in a strainer to remove the salt.
Pros: Friendly staff, Dishes prepared to order, Creative menu items
Cons: Too much salt in the food, Expect to wait as dishes are prepared when ordered

The crab cake sandwich was super satisfying. Fries were crispy but nothing special. Chana was super flavorful but a little salty. Roti was more tortilla consistency. Half and half drink was super sweet. Plantains were great. Food took a while. Seamoss drink tastes fresh and light. **run out of stuff by end of day, they were out of jackfruit bbq and Mac and cheese

We had BBQ jackfruit, rice and peas, collards and fried plantains. Everything was delicious and so full of flavor! Enjoyed the ginger pineapple lemonade also. Friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely come again.

Most restaurants serve lunch from 11am - 3pm Desmond lunch ends at 1pm, we got there at 1:30 and had to order dinner which we really weren't ready for. My wife had crab cakes with sides of collards and chickpeas. The sides were good, but the crabcakes were not great. They were bland and could have used some seasoning, maybe some seaweed. I had the lentil burger and chickpea salad, and both were good, but I was disappointed that they didn't have any mac&cheese. Staff and service were great. So if you're looking to have lunch, get there early!

Wow!! The food here is hands down the best vegan food in Hampton Roads!!! So many great options - all with their own unique flavors, aromas, and texture! All the reviews recommended the lentil empanada; Mac n cheese; and arepa with jackfruit and plantains. So we ordered them, alongside pumpkin curry and rice and its peas. We could not believe the explosions of flavor in every bite. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. Get your adventure on here today! You will not regret it!! Oh, and don’t forget to save some room for the banana pudding! It is absolutely delicious; so much so, it’s hard to believe it’s vegan!

I was very excited to find an all vegan Caribbean restaurant super close to my hotel. The brown stewed jackfruit was heavenly but the plantains were by far some of the best I’ve ever had. The staff was great and the food was delicious, if I’m in the area again I will def eat here again.

A friend told me about Desmond’s. I stalked their social media page for almost a month before my visit 🤣. Messaged the day before my trip and reviewed a prompt warm response. Arrived and was greeted by name. Customer service was excellent and so was the food! VERY generous serving sizes. Highly recommend.

I’ve been going here for a while now. I used to always get the rasta pasta with the mushrooms or jackfruit. I’ve tried the crab cake and the lentil burger but they’ve never been anything to write home about for me. The mac has always been my favorite side. Now today, I wanted to try something new. So i got the jackfruit, plantain and cheese arepa. It’s basically like a sandwich and gluten free too! Well it was amazing and even though you might have a long wait time, the food is going to be FRESH and HOT. It was SO GOOD. I also got the sides plate with cabbage, mac and cheese and STEWED BEANS. STOP SLEEPING ON THOSE BEANS!!!! THE BEST.

If you've never had rasta pasta, this is the place to get it, it is by far one of my favorite pasta now. The Mac n cheese was delicious as well. Unfortunately the banana pudding was sold out, that's what I was looking forward to the most. The wait was rather long, but well worth it.

Went back twice and ordered a lot to try it out, people are not wrong about the Rasta Pasta, it's great but you might miss it if you go later. When I was there they had another popup inside, so I got to try some really good sushi too. Honestly, of the places I tried in the area, this was my favorite for flavors and options.

Ordered Desmond's online and got the "crab" cakes. I wasn't a fan. Was hoping it would taste like seafood even a little but it didn't. The remoulade sauce was good though. Maybe I just didn't make a good choice ?

We used the app to help us find this gem. EVERYTHING was outstanding!!!!The staff and owner are passionate about the food and lifestyle and is evidenced by the depth of flavor in their food. We tried the jerk jackfruit, Krabcakes and Rasta pasta, the chef recommended complimentary sides which were perfection. We will be back again.
