Well curated menu

My friend and I got the Mushroom Crepe and the Seiten. Both were delicious, but the latter was a small portion for the price, but filling nonetheless. The Cannoli was the highlight and we both also enjoyed the turmeric lattes with almond milk..well blended with a little kick.

Disappointing

The food was not special. I felt like I was eating in a bad hotel's dining room. I expected they will know how to take care of vegetables, but they don't!
Tha atmosphere was nice though

Very delicious

Good portion sizes. Appetizer was big enough to share. Everything we ordered was delicious, from the house made lemonade and macha drinks, to the flatbread, cheeses, and entrees.

Pros: Many unique choices.

Good food

Because majority of their food is fried, I wouldn’t say this is a healthy place. But, we were able to get something that was raw and baked, and those dishes were delicious. I’d say it was good food but not the best in New York.

Pros: Organic

Enjoyable meal

We were so excited to receive a gift card here, and ordered quite a lot of food/cocktails! The lobster ravi appetizer was one of our fav dishes as was the Piccata—it’s been so long since I’ve had that rich, buttery sauce! My Moroccan dish had some interesting flavors and textures, too. One of their cocktails has an egg white substitute—which I was so tickled by. The desserts were a little disappointing. Our server was not all that friendly, but it wouldn’t stop us from coming back!

Great food but a bit pricey

I had the dumplings, soup, and a salad and all were great. I would definitely go back. I did think it was a bit expensive but in line with NYC restaurants.

Light this candle!

My family (6) went here for a special evening and this restaurant pleased everyone. Although this prices were a bit higher that other plant-based restaurants, it was well worth the food and experience. Staff was wonderful and didn’t treated us differently because we brought our kids. I highly recommend this special spot.

Pros: All dishes and desserts were amazing., Great atmosphere, Excellent staff

Cons: Slightly higher price

A Treat while in Manhattan

If you want to splurge on a lovely lunch while you're in Manhattan, this is the place. I had the raw pad thai (which is listed as an appetizer but was sufficient for lunch for me) and a craft cocktail (pricey, probably wouldn't do that again). It was a very nice atmosphere and beautiful space, friendly staff and over-all super pleasant and delicious!

Pros: Unique and sophisticated dishes, High quality ingredients, Pleasant staff and environment

Cons: Pricey

Super Delicious

Had to check twice before entering because it had such a fancy, classy entrance that resembled that of a steak house. Delicious food. I ordered the risotto as an appetizer and it was very good. The veggies were fresh and cooked-well on top of a small layer of basmati rice. For a main course I had the seitan steak and potatoes. It was my first time having seitan (“wheat meat”) and I enjoyed it. It does have a good texture that resembles meat in a way. I wasn’t amazed by it but it was still a good dish. I’d probably reorder the risotto and try a different dish on the menu. Still the seitan steak was good. The peanut butter chocolate desert was nice as well.

Pros: 100% vegan, Fancy vibe - should dress up, Good quality food

Cons: Fancy Place + vegan + NY = expensive. , The AC kept turning on and off - warm, Smaller than expected not great for huge parties

Delightful spot for weekend brunch

We came on a Saturday so had the choice of the all vegan lunch and weekend brunch menu. The Benedict was out of this world and the burger with polenta fries equally impressive. Treat yourself to one of their boutique cocktails or a delectable desert ... it’s all plant based and delicious! Wide range of options for the health conscious and those looking for some comfort food. The prices were very reasonable given its location.

Pros: Loads of options , Great location near Central Park, Cocktails

Excellent UES Eating

I've been to Candle 79 a couple of times now. The menu was slightly different each time. The first time I was impressed with what they did with tofu, the second time it was their seitan skewers that really blew my mind.

Pros: Seitan skewers, Good vegan wine list, Great entrees

Cons: A little pricey, Not everything on menu is to die for

Amazing

The best seitan I’ve ever eaten in my life. I’ve recently been eating more seitan and have tried a lot but this was simply to die for.
The rest of the meal was spectacular as well.

Excellent Food, Cozy Atmosphere

I took my wife here for her birthday and we both really liked it. It was a bit of a schlep to get here from Brooklyn but well worth it. All parts of the meal were excellent. They have a very nice cocktail menu, which includes drinks with egg replacer to give it the froth traditionally created in some drinks using egg whites. I had a did infused Manhattan which was really good. The highlight of my meal was the eggplant parmigiana. Wow - so flavorful and better than any cheese based equivalent I tried before I went vegan. It is not cheap at all but they deliver on the food. Interestingly it was an mostly older (read senior citizen) crowd there but I suppose that is related to its location.

Pros: Great flavorful well-presented food, Cozy atmosphere, Excellent cocktails

Cons: Expensive

The BEST!

I eat here every time I come back to NY to visit my family. L A has great vegan restaurants, but Candle79 remains my all-time, enduring favorite. Freshly prepared and creative entrees and desserts. The service is always excellent. Servers always ask about any food allergies.

Pros: Great menu and wonderful daily specials. , Creative entrees and desserts. , The service is always excellent.

Cons: None!!!

Fantastic Experience

We traveled with whole food plant based friends seeking the best dinning experience in NYC. It was a very close competition between Dirt Candy and Candle 79. Candle 79 gets my vote. My wife tries hard to avoid all forms of cooking oil; Candle 79 was able to accommodate her easily. I enjoy vegetables prepared as vegetables with interesting flavors through sauces. The maple, ginger sweet potatoes were to die for. Finally the service was most attentive without being intrusive.

Pros: Abundant vegan options., Great vegan deserts!, Attentive service

Cons: More expensive than casual dining options.

Worth a visit if you're feeling fancy.

I really enjoyed the food I had here, service was as you would expect for an slightly more refined establishment.

I could have fed myself for a week with the money I spent on the meal, but it was worth the experience for sure.

Cons: Welcome to New York expensive.
