Good vegan options - Edit
They have a vegan version of the local dish Cozido on the menu but because we didn’t make a reservation 24h in advance it was not possible to order that. I had the Tia Merces instead, chickpea dumplings (tasted like falafel) with a kind of chickpea curry with carrot and rice. It tasted pretty good. For dessert they even had a vegan Ben&Jerry’s.

Sounds better than it tastes - Edit
We ordered some veggies cooked in the volcanic water of hot springs (you need to order ahead on their website and for at least 2 persons). It sounds really fun, but the taste was quite boring.
Read moreThe portion was huge, so we took the leftovers to our hotel and blended them into a soup, with some seasoning it was much better

Vegan cozido - Edit
The cozido was amazing and massive! We could not finish it!
Read moreYou have to let know with 24h in advance that you want the vegan cozido or feixoada because it is slowly cooked with the geothermal heat. We didn’t book 24h in advance but we called early in the morning and they were able to prepare it for dinner time.
The cozido had a lot of vegetables, one vegan sausage and rice. I really recommend it!
Pros: Really nice taste

Pedimos feijoada vegana por encargo. Es importante reservar mínimo 24h antes porque las preparan en las furnas.

You cannot miss it! - Edit
They serve the vegan Fejoada (typical dish made with beans and a lot of veggies!), the portion is huge and the taste is amazing. I came back a second time, because it’s very hard to find vegan food on the island.

Vegan cozido - Edit
We had vegan cozido, which is cooked for 5-6 hours in holes on hot volcanic ground near the lake of Furnas. You have to order it at least 24 hours in advance. Lots of different veggies. My favourites were potatoes, carrots and cabbage. I read in some reviews of other people that their cozido had vegan sausage or seitan too. However, ours had only veggies. Maybe they run out, who knows. It was still good, but i would have preferred to have some protein in this dish.

Amazing Vegan Cozido! - Edit
The first time we went, we didn't have a reservation so I got their lentil ball/coconut sauce pasta dish which was so delicious. Then we made a reservation to go again so I could get vegan cozido (for cozido they need at least 24 hours advance notice). The vegan cozido was SO good! I especially loved the hunks of cabbage, and I'm not even that much of a cabbage fan! And then for dessert we tried a tamarilho sorbet which was different, but interesting! They had great service, too. I definitely recommend this place!

Vegan Cocido - Edit
We had the vegan version of the traditional meal cooked in the fumaroles. It was good not great. Lots of different veggies and good seitan. Has to be ordered 24 hours ahead. Garlic bread can be made vegan and was very good too. Good service.

Tasty Cozido - Edit
We tried our first vegan Cozido here. We had the feojora with vegan chorizo (please reserve 24 hours before). The Cozido came with a small portion of rice. They told us you don't need to order more sides because the Cozido is enough. They were right. It was so good seasoned and many veggies and beans in it :)

Really nice vegan cozido - Edit
As already described, you have to order the cozido beforehand, as it is cooked for many hours. Massive portion, really yummy, some veggies au natural, some with curry and piripiri. Yams as a side dip was great and gives a creamy feel. We had a good dose of seitan and vegan alheira (portuguese sausage like a chorizo) inside. I don't get the negative comments for the amount of protein...maybe consider you visit an island where food like this has to be imported, which probably is expensive. Anyway... staff was really nice and look after their costumers:) There also are some veggie and vegan options, if you visit without ordering cozido in advance. For dessert vegan options usually are fruit, they also have many vegetarian ones.
Read morePros: Great quality of veggies, Big portion (feeds 3-4), Nice salad too!

Okayish - Edit
It’s nice they have an options for vegans who want to try the typical cozido. They also have a feijoada and a few vegetarian options.
Read moreIt’s a massive portion for two people so we ended up not eating everything.
The taste is a bit bland, they served us a lot of vegetables and potatoes and only a bit of vegan chorizo and seitan. The price for a cozido for 2 is 30€ (which feeds 4 people). I think if they had added a bit more chorizo and seitan the price would be okay.
Pros: Big portion, One of the few places with vegan cozido
Cons: Lack of protein, It’s bit expensive

Mediocre - Edit
I ate here without booking the vegan corzido beforehand but the menu was extremely limited in choice. There was only a vegetarian burger (which was not vegan), a green salad (which was only lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumber, and was 8.50 Euro), and fried yam.

Only the one option but good quality - Edit
On an island where we found it so difficult to eat, we were thankful to be able to have this meal. We arrived at 14:10 and they said we would have to wait for a table, which was fine. A Portuguese mother and daughter arrived after us and were seated before us without a booking, which felt a little off and it looked for a while like they were going to tell us there were no tables left, but they made up a table for us thankfully (we were at the end of a long walk and were hungry and exhausted).
Read moreThere is only the one vegan option other than cozido which has to be booked in advance. It is the lentil balls and it is really nice. I ordered fried yam which they forgot so it arrived as we had finished our mains which was tasty. It came with a dip but we are sure it was a non vegan Mayo so we left it. The staff were friendly once we were seated but they also didn’t have great knowledge of what vegan means (they asked us what we don’t eat and then offered us an octopus salad).
Pros: Tasty
Cons: Only one option
