Good food but a bit overpriced

We tried the vegan feijoada. It was good but a little bit tight for 2 pax and a bit expensive.

Really nice vegan cozido

As already described, you have to order the cozido beforehand, as it is cooked for many hours. Massive portion, really yummy, some veggies au natural, some with curry and piripiri. Yams as a side dip was great and gives a creamy feel. We had a good dose of seitan and vegan alheira (portuguese sausage like a chorizo) inside. I don't get the negative comments for the amount of protein...maybe consider you visit an island where food like this has to be imported, which probably is expensive. Anyway... staff was really nice and look after their costumers:) There also are some veggie and vegan options, if you visit without ordering cozido in advance. For dessert vegan options usually are fruit, they also have many vegetarian ones.

Pros: Great quality of veggies, Big portion (feeds 3-4), Nice salad too!

Cons: Can be a bit full of people (tourist busses)

Okayish

It’s nice they have an options for vegans who want to try the typical cozido. They also have a feijoada and a few vegetarian options.
It’s a massive portion for two people so we ended up not eating everything.
The taste is a bit bland, they served us a lot of vegetables and potatoes and only a bit of vegan chorizo and seitan. The price for a cozido for 2 is 30€ (which feeds 4 people). I think if they had added a bit more chorizo and seitan the price would be okay.

Pros: Big portion, One of the few places with vegan cozido

Cons: Lack of protein, It’s bit expensive

Mediocre

I ate here without booking the vegan corzido beforehand but the menu was extremely limited in choice. There was only a vegetarian burger (which was not vegan), a green salad (which was only lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumber, and was 8.50 Euro), and fried yam.

Way too expensive for what was served. It was fine in a pinch and maybe the vegan corzido is fantastic but the options for the daily menu leaves much to be desired

Vegan geothermal cuisine

We went here twice to try both of the vegan geothermally cooked options. You need to order in advance. Huge portions and good value for money. Great location.

recommendable

Small restaurant with vegan options on the menu. The portions are quite large and the food is really tasty. They offer Vegan Cozidos (Açores specialty) but you have to preorder it

Massive Cozido

Lovely local place with fast and polite service. It has wheelchair access which is highly unusual and appreciated.

Only the one option but good quality

On an island where we found it so difficult to eat, we were thankful to be able to have this meal. We arrived at 14:10 and they said we would have to wait for a table, which was fine. A Portuguese mother and daughter arrived after us and were seated before us without a booking, which felt a little off and it looked for a while like they were going to tell us there were no tables left, but they made up a table for us thankfully (we were at the end of a long walk and were hungry and exhausted).

There is only the one vegan option other than cozido which has to be booked in advance. It is the lentil balls and it is really nice. I ordered fried yam which they forgot so it arrived as we had finished our mains which was tasty. It came with a dip but we are sure it was a non vegan Mayo so we left it. The staff were friendly once we were seated but they also didn’t have great knowledge of what vegan means (they asked us what we don’t eat and then offered us an octopus salad).

Pros: Tasty

Cons: Only one option

Einige sehr gute Vegane/ vegetarische Gerichte

Geothermal Vegan options 🙏🙂

Very friendly stuff. The food is good. Amazed by the tradicional options made in vegan. Missed some mashed peanuts on top of the lentil meatball dish.

Everything you could want from a local staple

Vegan Cozidos (Açores specialty) cooked in the local caldera with lots of other vegan options. Basically all you could ask for from a traditionally meat forward region

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Island special available

Good food, bit of a wait

One of the only places in this area clearly offering vegan food & not just cozido. We got the courela (lentil meatballs with courgette spaghetti in a coconut sauce) a simple salad and fried yams to share. Was enough for a lunch for 2 of us. Had to wait a bit for food. We were lucky to get a table (turned up early) as lots turned away without reservations

Great vegan options

Vegan food is quite hard to find in the island, so I was pleasantly surprised to find out they had great options here! I had a dish that consisted of zucchini noodles with lentil "meatballs" and a coconut sauce, it was delicious.

A great place to try the traditionnal Cozido made vegan

I discovered this place while looking at every restaurant menu in Furnas to check if they served vegan options. I was happy to find that Caldeiras & Vulcoes has several options, including a meal cooked underground, the traditionnal "cozido"!
Make sure to book at least 24h before, otherwise they can't serve you a cozido.

We did not expected the cozido would be that big, so we shared fried yam and olives as a starter, it was very good.
Then the cozido arrived, it was MASSIVE and colorful. It was a mix of different vegetables cooked underground with rice and boiled yam as a side. It was delicious!
Fortunatly, we could ask for a doggy-bag to take away what we could not eat.

A great place to try the famous cozido!

EDIT : I went back to try their vegan feijoada, also cooked underground. It was delicious too!
