Comfort food

02 Dec 2007

We ate here twice because we enjoyed it so much the first time. The servers were friendly, and the food, while not quite authentic Mexican fare, was very tasty, using some unexpected vegetables and bean sprouts. In a country where it can be hard to find much vegetarian food, this was our comfort spot.

Vegetarian Heaven?

02 Dec 2007

I'm not sure why Almanar is listed as not 100% vegetarian, because there wasn't any meat on their menu last night and their menu declares that they're an "espacio veggie."
Anyway, this is the best vegetarian food we've had in Spain so far. Beautiful presentations of wholesome, tasty food that's not characteristically Spanish, but oh so good.
It was nice to see a veggie restaurant getting so much business, too.
We will eat there again.

Love this place

Standing before a buffet and really accepting that nothing in front of me is made with flesh is amazing. We're always surrounded by people from India here--I think that's a good sign.

Good place, good spot

02 Dec 2007

Not exactly cheap, but reasonable, with various portion sizes, which is nice. The vegetarian and vegan labels on the menu were a pleasant surprise, and the food was good--not the best we've had here (Almanara), but quite good.
It's near the hip Plaza Alfalfa, close to a lot of good bars, and should you somehow not find anything on their menu to your taste, there's a very good pizza place with good veggie pies (not vegan) right around the corner.

Keeping my hopes up

15 Nov 2007

First time I ate here I tried the Vegetarian Haggis (who'd have thought?) and thought it was delicious. The next two times I went (months apart), craving the veggie haggis, they were out--they said both times that they were switching distributors. The neeps were tasty, but the grilled cheese was lacklustre. At least they try.
And, though they have a great list, the beer is really expensive.
