Definitely closed - Edit
I went there and there is another restaurant in it's place, and it's not vegetarian or vegan.

Wasn't open when it said it would be... then we got shooed away from the door like tourist pests when we tried to ask when it would open. No idea what the food's like.

Excellent food - Edit
I visited Almanara in September 2011. The restaraunt was easy to find, nicely decorated in a modern style and the food was innovative and delicious. Would certainly recommend to anyone looking for veggie food in Sevilla, which is certainly hard to find in regular restaraunts in Spain.
Pros: Good Food, Good value, Nice decor
Cons: None

All right but not impressive - Edit
We found the restaurant to be alive and kicking, however they seem to be struggling financially, as they said it's hard to be an all-veg restaurant in Seville. Well, maybe it would help if they paid more attention to the atmosphere they create: not only did we find some spider web, which I didn't care about, the lighting was inexistent during most of our dinner.
The food was nicely presented, not fabulous but it did the trick for me, with the exception of the desserts, none of them suitable for vegans. My girlfriend warns that the hamburger was plain and tasteless.

Almanara - Great food! - Edit
I had the soy meatballs, which came on skewers along with a couple potato wedges (with an amazing garlicky, creamy supposedly vegan dip), veggies (also amazing) and something else that I cannot remember, but that was also good. Everything I had was delicious! My partner had the wok vegetables with tofu which he also liked.
Service was pretty good, although vegan options are not clearly marked which would have been helpful.
Two thumbs up!
Pros: Great Food
Cons: Vegan options not clearly marked

Looking forward to going back - Edit
This was my first full meal at a veg establishment in Sevilla and I can't wait to go back. I immediately understood why someone else had described this as his/her fav. restaurant in Sevilla. Per another review I had read, I ordered the tempura for an appetizer - it was pretty salty but I like salty food and I was pleasantly surprised that the salsa roja that came with the veg. was a nice accompaniment. For my entree I had brochetas de seitan - I was a bit disappointed that the "verduras a la plancha" that came with the meal was 2 giant wedges of french fries and some kind of mashed potato-like dish. However, that didn't stop me from eating everything! The sauce on the seitan was great. My meal came with a small ensalada - the potato with mayonesa salad that is common here - which I didn't eat b/c I'm vegan. My friend had the Ensalada Almanara which looked very good. For our 2 entrees, 1 appetizer, and 2 glasses of wine the total came to 32E - more than I would spend on an average meal but well worth it.
Pros: Plenty of Vegan Options, Outdoor Seating, Nice Location

Good, but a bit of a challenge for vegans - Edit
I ate here in early May 2010 with my vegan wife and our vegan Spanish friend. The place itself, located on the hip and happening Alameda de Hercules, is inviting, with modern decor. The menu has a lot of intriguing things, featuring a good deal of seitan and some fried offerings. I found the food delicious (I am an omnivore), but the vegans at the table were not thrilled that the ubiquitous sides - mashed potatoes, a dollop of cream with the fries - weren't vegan. Many of the entrees were not vegan either. Still, I recommend a trek out to the Alameda during your stay and a meal here.
Pros: Great neighborhood, Attractive decor, Tasty food
Cons: Not much vegan, Waiters not very friendly, A little pricey

Mixed... - Edit
I've eaten here a couple of times - alone - in the last two weeks. The first time was wonderful, which is why I went back! The second time, not so wonderful...
On my first visit I had tempura vegetable (listed as a starter) and then vegetable spaghetti 'bolognese'. The vegetable tempura was vast (much more filling than the 'main course' spaghetti) but was delicious, with a lovely tomato-based sauce. The spaghetti was fine - nothing overly special, but nice. Service was prompt; the waiter was friendly and efficient.
The second time I went to Almanera, it was a different story. The waitress sat down chatting with a group of her friends and ignored everyone for ages - I eventually managed to catch her eye (only from the next table!) to order a drink...
This time I ordered two starters instead of a starter and a main: tempura vegetables again (they were so scrummy last time) and something that I really can't remember, but which was fine. The tempura vegetables came with a different sauce - not so nice, and really cold (although I seem to remember the first time it was warm) and the vegetables (or the batter, more likely) were SO salty they were virtually inedible, and even the next morning I had a raging thirst. I know I should have complained, but I didn't have the confidence in Spanish to complain to a waitress sitting at a table full of her friends...
Had I just been the first time to Almanara, I would have recommended it without hesitation. Now, perhaps not. Both times were in the evening, by the way.
Pros: mostly nice food, clean, sometimes helpful staff
Cons: sometimes unhelpful staff, food can be variable

a little overrated - Edit
i had expected much more of a 4 out of 5 happy cow review place... i found the menu not attractive, unhealthy looking : a lot of soja, vinegar and gluten and not many veggies, parmesan cheese (the worst for the kidneys) everywhere! it seemed like a person who had stopped eating meat but forgot to reinvent his style into the happy and healthy veggie world, simply added soja and dropped the meat. when i asked for a replacement of the pasta in pasta bolognaise (8 euro) with the seafood pasta from another dish (10 euro) i was charged 11 euro in the end that i felt a little overrated... the area is great for shure.
Pros: area, outside eating, english spoken
Cons: not healthy, not creative, hardly any healthy raw food

Fantastic Spag bog - Edit
The place is not far from the Hercules towers and a nice evening strolling area.
I was there in January and found it a little nippy and very quiet inside. The decor was kind of trendy but I found the side wall lighting too in ya face bright.
Being unable to read the very small print of the Spanish menu, we were presented with an equally small printed English version.
The waiter had to check on vegan options and was unclear as to what vegans could and could not eat which didn't bode well. However when the food arrived (promptly) we were impressed.
Of the 3 places we ate, foodwise this was the best. I had Veggie spaghetti bolognaise and that alone would prompt me to return. There was a disabled access toilet but this was obstructed.
I would eat here again.
Pros: Very tasty food
Cons: tiny menu print

Really nice modern place, great vburger! - Edit
This was an unexpected hip and modern place with a very professional look and feel. They healthied up our selections and I had a wonderful Veg burger decked out with fresh salad and veggies. I would definitely go here often. Very impressive and friendly.
Pros: VBurger, modern, well put together

Nice spot, good food, English spoken - Edit
Alamanara has a good location on a large square in north-central Sevilla, with both indoor and outdoor seating.
The menu is lacto-ovo-vegetarian (no meat), with several vegan options (and others that can be made vegan upon request). They serve olives and a bread basket before the meal (and the bread is said to be vegan).
An English menu card is available upon request. The server spoke some English and was helpful in identifying the vegan options.
Prices are quite reasonable by local standards (around 10 euros for a main dish).
Pros: creative menu, reasonable prices, good peoplewatching outside
Cons: no vegan desserts, no fresh juice or health drinks

Lovely food - Edit
We visited this place twice in late June with two more people on the second occasion. There is a good selection of dishes. On both occasions we arrived at 8-30 and thus early for Spain. We chose to eat indoors because of the heat. When we left later the out side was buzzing with veggie eaters. The staff were helpful and provided english menus for us useless folkes. We can speak well of timbale of vegetables, skewer of seitan, lentil salad, moroccan coscous with veg.
We were confused about the cost of the bread and olives with the drinks but it seems petty to mention it as it was so small an amount anyway
We cannot vouch for the stictness of the kitchen in veggie terms
Pros: good size portion, very tasty, friendly staff
Cons: bread and olive costs

peasonearth 05 Nov 2009 - Hi Elainejenkins, I liked your review. It sounds like they have great food here that may be hard to find in Spain.

Vegetarian haven - Edit
It was a relief when we finally saw the restaurant, especially after I'd first sat down at the Cafe Alameda, only realizing my mistake while looking at their meaty, fishy menu over a glass of Rioja. The Alameda de Hercules is an area with lots of restaurants & bars & it was on the other side from where I'd expected it to be (North I think). We sat outside & were waited on by a friendly young man who spoke good English. The food was very good though one item (can't remember what) was strange, but maybe not to a Spanish palate. The waiter said they were 100% veggie. They've probably fixed the toilets by now so I won't mention them.
Pros: good food, friendly , outdoor tables too

Excellence in all aspects - Edit
My wife and I do not speak Spanish and yet the staff was fabuous in ensuring that we were totally comfortable in all of our choices. We had made reservations and it was a good thing because by the time we left there was line up to get a table. Totally 100% vegetarian! Beautiful presentation, delicious courses...only drawback was as we were only two people we couldn't taste more items. the staff literally RUN to serve their clients. I would definitely go back (if I get to Seville again) and would Highly recommend it.
Almanara - Edit
It isn't lacto but lacto ovo. Anyway, great restaurant, at a nice square.

Vegetarian Heaven? - Edit
I'm not sure why Almanar is listed as not 100% vegetarian, because there wasn't any meat on their menu last night and their menu declares that they're an "espacio veggie."
Anyway, this is the best vegetarian food we've had in Spain so far. Beautiful presentations of wholesome, tasty food that's not characteristically Spanish, but oh so good.
It was nice to see a veggie restaurant getting so much business, too.
We will eat there again.
Pros: Great food, swanky environs, healthy
Cons: pricey, a bit small so get there before the rush
