The best - Edit
I love all their food! Had never tried bagel & lox before and it's really great! See if you can catch their chicken salad sandwiches when those are on the menu, but honestly everything is great, especially the chermoula turkey. And all vegan. I got the French dip this time!

Swell vibes and a full stomach. - Edit
Read moreCute place in a new area St Louis to explore when in town visiting the spawn, great selection of sandwiches. Had the Hot Salami and was not disappointed! Wife enjoyed her chili as well.
Sandwich was stuffed with lettuce, onion and all the juicy accoutrements. The “salami” was flavorful and top notch in texture and vibe. Softer/chewier than the meat version but that was a plus for me in a sandwich like that.
Discovering the candy bar brand they are stocking for dessert (forgot the name, based out of Salt Lake City) was just an added bonus. They were amazing
Chris and the team were super friendly, and was a very welcoming experience as well. Will be back to try more next time we’re in town for sure.
Frozen pizzas to go as well if you need one :-). Prices were reasonable as well.
Oh. And the neighboring windmill was a tourist surprise despite many trips to the Lou previously.
Pros: Sandwich experience top notch , Vibe and staff great, Windmill with history to Google across the street
Cons: I can’t eat 2 sandwiches. They’re big. :-)

Had the hot Italian today, I’d eat these things weekly if I lived here, and it filled a hole in my being. Could be cuz it was huge. But probs more cuz it was so freaking tasty. I crave these things

This visit to my spawn in grad school…. Hot salami. Everything just works in these sandwiches. Fantastic. Was hopping on a Wednesday afternoon. Love to see it. Grabbed a few breakfast bagel sandwiches to heat up at my hotel for breakfast. 5

SO delicious. I ordered the mac n cheese, turkey sandwich and cookies. Everything was detectible. I'd recommend the turkey with the aoli. Simply divine!

Awesome Little Spot - Edit
I really liked the food and the feel in the restaurant. My son was not very pleased with the sauce on one of the sandwiches. One of the owners came out and asked how the food was, and I told them this. She asked him what he liked, and he ended up getting a chopped cheese on the house! Really great first-time experience, and I will be back.

Amazing Sandwiches - Edit
We stopped in while visiting from Chicago and wow, these are the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. There’s a nice selection of cookies and vegan candy bars for dessert, too. Plus Chris and his staff are all super sweet.

Was heartbroken 😭 food was sold out 😒 - Edit
I was super excited to try this place as we also have a vegan butcher her in Sydney! Also St Louis has a huge Serbian Bosnian population and they had vegan chevapi with kajmak and ajvar sandwich which I have never seen before just the vegan chevapi once in Serbia. I wanted to show my husband Serbian Bosnian food vegan! When we got there all sandwiches were sold out but I’m writing this review to say the staff gave us free potato salad, Italian wedding soup and choc chip cookies which was all that was left. Was sad cause we were only in St Louis for a few days and they were closed the next day. If I was to come back which sadly is unlikely any time soon as I live in Sydney I would go nice and early! Love the concept just sad I could not have the whole experience.

Vegan Deli!! - Edit
Owner, Chris, is an STL vegan chef-hero. He left and came back to open this awesome space on the South Side. As the name suggests, this is a deli. They’re still waiting on the deli case, so you can’t order pounds of vegan meats and cheeses yet, but in the meantime you can enjoy sandwiches made with those anticipated items. He also has sides, take & bake pizzas, and bagels. He features desserts, like cookies and brownies, from a local small business owner. Everything here is vegan. Everything.
Read moreThe grand opening was Saturday, 28Oct, and they sold out in a few hours. They are currently open Wednesdays-Saturdays, 11am-7pm, so I returned on Thursday to check it out.
Cuban - Toasted, pressed bread filled with pulled pork and ham. Served with a dijon, pickles, and cheese. I omitted the cheese and added mayo porque me gusta mis sandwichitos Cubanos así. So good! If he ever adds bacon to the menu I’ll be adding that too.
I got a side of potato salad. It’s mayo based, which I actually prefer over the mustard potato salad. It was very flavorful. The potatoes were more al dente, which is fine. I think I’m just used to softer, overcooked potatoes in my potato salad. Still and all, it was good and I’d order it again.
My friend raved about her Maine Lobster Roll! Gonna have to try that next. I do hope some tuna shows up on the roster in the future.
There are several gluten free options too!
The thing that stands out about Vegan Deli and Butcher is that he makes his own products. No Impossible, Beyond, Gardein, Tofurky, etc., sold here; it’s homemade! You can taste the difference in the quality and flavor of his food. If we’re lucky, he’ll throw in some weekly specials once operations are cruising smoothly, and we might get some of his infamous Crack Tacos. IYKYK!
Go check em out and get vegged out!
