not vegan!

I talked to the owners. They had no understanding if veganism. They use fish stock in all their dishes except the mapo tofu.

Wholesome food served with warmth

This lovely little compassionate eatery just a few steps from the southern end of the Philosopher’s Path serves tasty vegan noodle soups (including very satisfying udon with mushrooms) and sides, as well as good matcha and excellent warabi mochi. There are photos on the wall of all of the cats who wander the Philosopher’s Path, with their names, and indeed we met a couple these famous felines on our walk.

Service is kind and some English is spoken for the benefit of those of us with limited Japanese.

Enjoy!

Tasty food in the path of philosophy

The food was really tasty, specially the soup. A little expensive though.

Pros: Soup was really good, Easy to access on the path of philosophy , The waiter was kind

Cons: A little expensive, The restaurant name is not obvious to find it

A wonderful experience

I stumbled upon this cafe just by walking past and I’m so happy I did! It’s fully vegan, run by a lovely elderly couple who have a very limited but delicious menu of authentic Japanese food. I had their mushroom udon which was hearty and full of flavour. The place is wonderfully cat-themed, with photos of the local strays everywhere (and postcards of these on sale - plus you can buy lots of cat / animal themed items in their tiny shop next door). This restaurant is charmingly full of homely things too, so it almost feels like you’re dining in their home. I’d recommend this to any vegan seeking a rest-stop along the ‘Philisopher’s Path’ route.

Pros: The atmosphere, The food, The cats!

Cons: Service may be a little slow, but worth it
